With so much sport to look forward to over the next 12 months, from the FIFA World Cup to the Rugby World Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, now’s a great time to splash out on a new TV.

But not just any TV. If you want a TV that will help you make the most of every agonising, emotional, spectacular moment, look no further than Samsung’s latest Neo QLED and OLED models. Here’s a closer look at a couple of real thrillers…

Samsung Neo QLED: evolution and then some

Let’s start with the mighty 65-inch QN800B – a stunning Neo QLED 8K TV set that promises to unleash the full power of 8K. It uses Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology Pro and Neural Quantum Processor in combination to enable ultra-precise dimming to produce a truly remarkable on-screen image that’s simply bursting with detail.

It also upscales nearly everything you watch to 8K resolution, so you’ll be able to see every blade of grass on the pitch, and boasts next-level high dynamic range (HDR), courtesy of Quantum HDR 2000 powered by HDR10+. Better HDR means more detail in the darkest dark parts and lightest sections of the picture, giving even greater clarity and making the on-screen action more lifelike.

Prefer gaming to goals? Samsung’s latest TVs are fully-loaded with advanced gamer-friendly features that deliver mind-blowing graphics and ultra-smooth console/PC play. The QN800B supports VRR, ALLM, 4K@120Hz and 8K@60Hz, along with Motion Xcelerator Turbo Plus, to make the most of your TV’s ultra-low lag time. Again, it’s all about delivering unprecedented levels of detail – whether you’re slinging webs in Spider-Man or deploying special moves in Street Fighter.

Another great thing about the QN800B (and Neo QLED TVs in general) is that it’s impossibly-thin, making it remarkably pleasing to the eye. Thanks to Samsung’s Infinity One Design and the attachable One Connect Box you can wall-mount without worrying about an unsightly mess of cables coming from below the TV. Sunny afternoon? Samsung’s anti-reflective screen will ensure you’re not distracted by glare.

Neo QLED TVs sound as good as they look, too. The best models feature Super Surround Sound powered by Dolby Atmos. This tech uses built-in multi-directional speakers, including upward-firing drivers, to produce immersive cinematic sound – without a separate 5.1 system. The 65-inch QN90B Neo QLED, for example, is packed with eight speakers so you might find yourself involuntarily ducking when a helicopter hovers overhead.

Samsung OLED: a dazzling debut

New for 2022, are Samsung’s Quantum Dot-powered OLED TVs. Promising limitless contrast, flawless colour and immersive surround sound, they’re another great option for those who love fast-moving sports and 4K gaming.

For the uninitiated, OLED TVs use self-illuminating pixels that can be individually controlled to produce deep blacks and limitless contrast. The range-topping 65-inch Samsung S95B takes things a step further with the company’s AI-powered Neural Quantum Processor 4K, which uses 20 neural networks  to upscale ordinary images to exquisite 4K resolution, pixel by pixel.

The OLED HDR powered by HDR10+ gives a crispness to bright highlights and a clarity to darker sections of the image – no more squinting trying to work out what’s happening. The anti-reflective screen means you can watch roaring sports, play video games or enjoy film noirs on even the brightest of afternoons and still see the action in stunning detail.

Talking of gaming, we rated the S95B as one of the best gaming TVs you can buy right now. It supports ALLM so that it can turn into its fast response Game mode whenever a game source is detected.

We love the design of this set, too. It’s super slim and sure to upgrade any decor. And, of course, you get Samsung’s Tizen smart platform onboard. The latest version offers an effortlessly user-friendly experience, whether you’re watching live sports, bingeing on the Netflix documentary, or hosting a multiplayer gaming marathon with your friends around the world.

Last but not least, the S95B offers Dolby Atmos-powered audio tech with Object Tracking Sound to draw you into the action.
