Re: Rega Rs5 vs. Monitor Audio Silver Rx6
ear: just found the distributor from rega and many other good hifi brands right in my code area. Rega speakers are actually cheaper than monitor audio. Rega rs1....390 euros.sound lovely to me , but I have nevver heard them before...are they really really good?

Which makes you wonder why Monitor Audio had to move their production to China to compete while Rega did not.

ear: thats a keeper.I feel the same way about the rs6 and rx6. rega must be mch better than those.

Thats bit of a daft comment! Rega and Monitor Audio speakers are both very good; it's all down the individual and personl tastes in music and the individuals hearing as well You do come out with some daft comments...

I completly agree, i demo'd both and prefered the rx6's with the more powerfull mira3 & apollo so as you say its all down to personal taste and musical preferences.

Oh yes.

...I second that. Very good for the money and very talented with all but drum and bass. They don't do badly there either...

How much deep to they go? the specs dont even mention the size of the bass mid driver.have you compared them with the SA1 igglebert?

No, never compared them to the SA1s. It all gets a bit subjective due to different rooms and different amps, etc. I would strongly recommend the RS3s (or even RS5s) for smaller rooms because their bass is much more tight and controlled than many equivilently priced floorstanders. The RS1s are excellent but we're not talking a lot of bass here.

Ear, get yourself a demo starting with the RS1 (near a wall) and then the RS3. You can decide for yourself whether they suit the music you listen to.

As for the SA1s, their bass is a different story...

...the Rega range are pretty fast sounding speakers, something I think you'll appreciate...

...then try the RS3 or RS5. Failing that, the current offerings from MA will apparently rock 'da house...

nah.no MA for me.but maybe the rx2 are the best of them.even so i dont like them much, but they seem to be the model from silevr range that separates instruments better.

Re: Rega Rs5 vs. Monitor Audio Silver Rx6

by all that has been said i am starting the warm to the idea of the rega rs1's -close to a wall is ok, loads of detail and control. lack of bass well i like neil young, nils lofgren, gary moore so i dont think ill lose sleep.

ear i really think the speaker for you is the MS mezzo2's they are class but i has the feeling they may take over a touch but i think these could be your cup of tea.

igglebert you said you have a pair of rs1's which are doing nothing, you dont live anywhere close to leicester do you. Im keen to hear a pair that have ran-in my local dealers have not got any rega rs1's.

Still, you're welcome to hear my SA1s...

Re: Rega Rs5 vs. Monitor Audio Silver Rx6

my ns-333 are in the same league has the roth oli 2 i guess. they lack a bit of bass in low levels of lisneting, but they are great speakrs.probably the rega rs1 are a bit like them.although some speakers like iq10,ms 902i put good bass at low levels and are also relatively small speakers..i just have to listen to the rs1

Re: Rega Rs5 vs. Monitor Audio Silver Rx6

why i thought that sorry, what are views on the MA rs1's then i cant say that the rx1's made want to save £400 I found the rx1's trying to much almost in your face maybe that the dealer had the need to play the stuff way to loud and the speakers were narror but i want more controled listen with not so deep bass as i have wooden floors and they will be close to the back walls. Thanks for offer on the sa1's but they are premier league im still league 2 and i would fall in love and have to dream of them every night.

You might not like the SA1s, you never know!

My feeling on the MA RS1s was that they're a lot of speaker for the money (just look at the finish) but they didn't give the coherent sound I was after. Now, they could certainly entertain and perform well when I wanted a party sound, most enjoyable. Unfortunatly I found their bass a little boomy (and porty), plus they were a little bright. If these or the new range (that I haven't heard but are apparently very good) don't satisfy then I suggest trying the Regas.

Of course, you could hunt out a used pair of Proac Studio 110s...
