Quick question(Drunk if you own a Qute or Uniti.

Does the device all you to see all music and playlists and will the Naim unit allow you to shuffle/ randomly select music from your main music library or will it only see playlists?

Are you using Eyeconnect or Allegro to stream?

Looking to place my order this week for a Uniti system but would like to iron out this question, some dealers say yes some say no so I am asking potential owners for the SP?

Cheers

Sees all music, allows you to select tracks from any album, will shuffle/repeat within an album if required.

Not using either of those streamers: just have a couple of NAS drives running Twonky, and all works fine. You may need extra software if you're planning to stream from a computer, and especially if you have a Mac computer), and of course the computer needs to be on to serve the content.

I run Eyeconnect on this MacBook Pro, but have only installed it to have a look at how it works and what it does.

Better by far to have a NAS drive connected to your router, as then the computers can be off and music still streaming.

Oh, and I have found a wired connection between NAS/router/UQ or NU to be much more reliable than a wireless link: to qualify that, we have a range of computers and devices on out wireless network, including three computers, a Blu-ray player, a couple of internet radios and a Sony 'netbox' TV receiver.

And I'm talking more reliable in terms of greatly reducing the number of drop-outs: I'm not in any way suggesting that wired gives a better sound than wireless, simply because I haven't done enough testing to make any judgement in that department.

I'm using Eyeconnect. What it makes up for in offering you all your iTunes playlists and transcoding formats that the Uniti doesn't like (eg Apple Lossless), it loses in responsiveness - I found Twonky and a FLAC library better in this regard, though it does cost money. If you;re starting your library from scratch I'd definitely try the latter.

Some notes on the issues I faced here

Re: Calling all Naim owners

Thanks for the initial feedback, its reassuring that I am going down the correct route.

One key question, which I am not sure has been fully answered (apologies if I missed this) but in the normal music library can you select random and allow the naim to play your entire music library.

Will take a look at Twonky, not heard that one before.

Thanks again

Yes you can. Taking Eyeconnect as an example, initially it looks like you can't, but if you go into 'Albums', there's an 'All' option, which gives you all your tracks, which you can then put on shuffle.

I can't remember how Twonky deals with it and can't check because my trial has just run out Big Smile

Re: Calling all Naim owners

John - Many thanks for the confirmation, this is what I was looking for Big Smile

So many shops who were Naim dealers did not know, I found this surprising and one in particular just wanted to say yes to everything I asked - thank goodness for forums and owners I say.

I will be ordering my Uniti and Spendor A6 speakers in the morning in order to beat the VAT increase. I've got 15% discount off the speakers and 10% discount of the Uniti, with Chord twin flex speaker cables at cost so on the right road to a good deal.

Thanks again everyone, very much appreciated.

Have a good Christmas, I am looking forward to delivery of the new system in the New Year.
