CJSF,

My mum told me porn would make you blind. Reccon this will make you deaf!

Lovely looking modded arm. Looks to be a 12 incher from the photo , is this just camera angle distortion?

PS:- Never quite worked out how to get photos in a post.......... any hints?

PPS:- Missed out on the bidding for your old cartridge...that will teach me to keep my eye on the ball! Smile

Hi Alears, deaf and blind the amount of needl hours I'm putting in recently:rofl:   Its a standard 9" 'arm', the camera does have a distortion factor at the wide 24mm end.  I'll see if I can take a few more tomorrow, it realy is a work of art, visualy and sonicaly

Pitty about the cartridge, I got a good price, but the guy told me that was his limit.

RE: Warning, hifi porn . . .

Here we are, almost two hours in to Horlicks 'hour(s)', the records have been flying, as have the screw driver, alen key and slip guages.  Best time to do this fine adjusting, the mains are nice and stable.

. . . I had been doing hours of adjustments on the old Rega RB700 arm, pointless I thought, it will all change when the new Audiomods Classic get here . . . True, but the practise was benificial, fine tuning my skills.  The new arm droped into place perfectly, the cartridge alignment was spot on firt time.

So all was set for the adjustments that needed old fashoned ears to get right.  Even thes seemed to be OK'ish.  Coming back with fresh ears tonight, much fine tuning was needed.  We started with a very strong driven sound, great detail, but to brittle for me.  VTA was reduced by 0.5mm increments from a 3.5mm slip guage to 2mm and then back to 2.5mm.  Down force is running at 1.8gs and I juggled with bias.

All is set now, we have extra air, tighter infomation presentation, particularly noteisable on quality recording, one note is actualy 2, 3 and/or harmonics evident in my pipe organ recordings and with piano.

Image was a suprise, solid as a rock, I thought concerns in this area was down to the amplifyer . . . the new arm has taken control.  Ah, Horlicks is on the table, time to relaxing and a few tracks of Carol Kidd.  Back again, saved the best till last, Tallis Scholars 'Miserere', 3 dimentional, smooth, articulation (wish I could understan Latin), spacial, air and accoustics, I did not even have to turn the volume up a notch or two like I usualy do . . . wow.

Nice arm, CJ. How big is the sound difference from your previous arm?

I have thought about this onehard, the old RB700/modified P5 combination sounded superb with one or two provisos, the main one being air and a bit more image, which in my book go hand in glove?  Its hard to be objective with out a comparison, so the 700 was doing a 'good job'.  Fitting the Audiomods Classic has brought sophistication to my sound.  Now I have a direct comparison, the image of the 700 was like looking at a digital photograph at say 20 pixels to the inch, the same picture presented by the AM arm relates to 100 pixels to the inch, one is unaware of the pixel blocks.  Live music as a band or orchestra is generaly not herad as individual pockets, it is a merging wall of sound, thats assuming all are playing at the same time.   Left, right, middle, middle left etc is unnatural especialy on electic music, the pockets and individuals pop out as the instuments around adjust their intensity,

There is more detail, and the sound is more relaxed 'easy' is a good word.  All this has been assesed on the type of music I play late at night, not wishing to upset the neighbours.  This afternoon I will get to the hooligan music, Geff Beck and Peter Gabrial quality type rock music, see how my arm set up of last night works with them.
