Q Acoustic 2070Si Subwoofer using Onkyo 609's boundary gain compensation?

Hi,

I originally selected the Stereo format and probably prefered it now I think about it but decided to do the proper method for a AV multi channel system and now I have it seemingly being quite loud and in your face which I don't think is great.

I have no choice but to put it fairly close to the wall, about 12cm so in my Onkyo I have just said it is a THX subwoofer to be able to turn on the boundary gain compensation which I think is much better but will it ruin my sub?
