I am after a pair of high quality standmount speakers with good bass around the £800 - £1000 price range. I like the look of the Yamaha Soavo 2 standmount speakers and after listening to them at a dealer in the Northwest, I liked them as they sounded neutral & musical but abit bass shy. Kind of safe bet type of sound, but not very exciting.

Another speaker I am also considering is for a secondhand pair of Jamo D830 - Concert 8 standmount speakers. There is plenty of rave reviews & information available online and you could pick them up for around the £500 - £600. They cost  £1500 when new, 10 - 12 years ago and also won the European EISA award. They are now dis-continued. Since I have not heard a pair before, I cannot compare them to the Yamaha Soavo 2!

Which one is the better speakers? They both are aprox the same size and volume and my gut instinct tells me to go for the Jamo D830/Concert 8?

What electronics do you have, what sort of music do you mostly listen to, and what sort of sound are you after? Furthermore, what speakers do you currently have, and what do you wantto change about the sound?

kopking,

Based on what you are looking for, I would recommend you expand your options to include two more options.  First I'd recommend the Monitor Audio RX2.  This speaker is in your target price range and will provide great detail with lots of bass impact.  Second recommendation is Dynaudio DM/7.  This is another speaker that is very good for the money with plenty of bass. Try these two options and I think you will be surprised how good they are...

Thanks for the recommendation and I like the look of the Dynaudio. Did you mean the Dynaudio DM2/7 speakers? When I typed Dynaudio DM/7 online googles search, DM2/7 came up instead?

I remember listening to a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.3, many years ago at a Manchester Hi-Fi show and was very impressed with them. Very open & neutral. As well as having good bass, I like speakers to be open, transparent with good detail. I am not keen on bright, sharp, in your face , clinically sterile clean sounding speakers.

The Yamaha Soavo 2 is the standmount version of the Soavo 1. The Soavo 1 had an excellent review & highly recommended in Hi Fi World, comparing it with the classic Yamaha NS1000M?  I have heard a pair of NS1000M a while back and was blown away by the sound! I would love to have a pair but my wife would divorce me due to the size of them!  The Soavo 2 sounded nothing like the NS1000M so I am after a standmount with a similar sound or characteristic of the NS1000M! I was also very dissapointed to find out  Soavo 2 were made in Indonesia & tuned in the UK!
