UK prices start from £499 for the 16GB iPhone 4S, with the 32GB model at £599 and 64GB version at £699.These are SIM-free prices without a contract. We'll get contract prices from the mobile phone companies as soon as we can.
19.30 Lots of explanatory information on the new iPhone 4S now. Siri, the voice Q&A feature, seems to be a big deal. Certainly sounds intriguing but will it work in a loud environment? And do people want voice control, anyway? Siri is exclusive to the iPhone 4S, so if you want it you'll have to buy the new handset.
19.25 Apple stock has dropped 3.4%. But then lots of stocks are dropping 3.4% at the moment.
19.20 Apple has launched a new voice control system. iPhone 4S will respond to voice questions with answers. Voice directions for maps, too. Are we still waiting for an iPhone 5? Who knows...
19.15 Apple AirPlay mirroring comes to the iPhone 4S. Similar to iPad allows you to throw video from iPhone 4S to your screen. Denon AV receiver appears on screen! Apple claiming this is the best iPhone yet, you'll be staggered to hear.
19.08 iPhone 4S has 8MP camera, 1080p HD video recording, redesigned lens and a new antenna system that will choose the best of two antennas depending on where you are. So, where's this iPhone 5?
19.02 More on iPhone 4S: battery life improved, antenna improved, faster data, faster downloads. Potentially twice as fast as the iPhone 4 when it comes to downloading.

17.50 The strongest indication yet that we will see a stripped-down, affordable iPhone comes from Apple's Japanese store. A picture of the iPhone 4S appeared on the store webpage. Rumoured to go on sale for around $100, the iPhone 4S would mark Apple's first foray in to the affordable smartphone market.

Apple Store UK says iPhone 4S prices "from £499" for the 16GB version, and reports elsewhere on the web suggest the 32GB will be £599 and 64GB for £699. These are SIM-free prices without a contract, bought direct from Apple.

Crazy high prices for a mid-spec phone.....
Apple are getting lazy. No innovation, put a SII next to an iphone 4s. That 3.5ich screen looks 2 years old.
strange that you can get a 16gb iPhone 4s for the same price as an 8gb iPod Touch.... Presume those iPhone prices are in conjunction with a 24month network contract...?
I do perefer IOS over android, however having tested a Samsung Galaxy with its 4.3' screen, I was impressed with the difference a larger screen size makes for mobile browsing.
The iPhone 4 had a list price of £510 on Apples site, no contract, so unless there has been a massive reduction its a lot for a small screen in the current market. Apples site is down at the moment, so well wait and see.
Iphone 4S looks a bit low-spec compared to a HTC Sensation XE with its 4.3inch screen, dual 1.5Ghz etc..
Improvement over the old Iphone4 though and that will be enough for some.
The new features are average as well...
Android has had voice control for a couple of months now, and iCloud looks like a waste of time. 5GB isnt very much storage, and even 50GB at £70/year isnt very much either. Wont even hold your music collection.
Better to have your own network storage at home and just access that over the internet.
Did u see the 'Siri' demo ? - u have to speak slow and like you would to a child so its not quite like the pr suggests.

does this mean they're killing the 16gb iPhone 4? Had hoped to pick up a bargain on one of 'em....
Good prices - the new 32Gb is cheaper than I'd have expected a 2nd-hand 32Gb 4 to sell for (from past iphones). But gutted there is nothing of great innovation there.
Unless you are lonely and need something to talk too, why would you upgrade from a 4?
What a disappointment, over £500 for a 3.5 inch screen. I won't be changing my 3GS anytime soon. The Galaxy S is starting to look more attractive.
