RE: Panasonic VT30 green blob fault

That's strange as my GT30 has not had any such issues which makes me think that it's bit of a lottery as to if you get a good example or not...out of interest what size screen is your GT30??

From what i have read on the subject it would seem that the bigger the screen size the more likely it is that the issue will occur, but there are good sets out there that don't show the issue so it would be good to know just why this is happening with certain GT and VT models and not others, is there a problem during manufacture for example??

Come on Panasonic please provide a definitive answer instead of customers having to read internet rumour and quotes from your customer service agents.

RE: Panasonic VT30 green blob fault

Both of my screens with the green blob have been 46".

I popped into Sevenoaks Reading, they've got someone returning their 50" GT because of the green.

That tallies with what i've been reading, my 42GT30 is fine but the complaints have come from people with screens of 46" and 50" GT30 tvs and 46" and over VT30 tvs, i'm so glad now that i never went for the 46GT30...i came very close to getting one but went with a 42GT30 and Panasonic BDT310 bluray player so i could go 3D and it turns out that was a good decision.

I've had nothing but trouble with the last few tvs i've bought but this time it seems i avoided any issue, perhaps my luck is changing, i'm very happy with my GT30 and can't see me changing it for some time.

I wouldnt be suprised if the issue is there and you just can't see it. I would say this issue is on ever set to varying degrees.  Mines is effected by it but I can live with it.

I know exactly what the issue is and what it looks like so i'm sorry to disappoint you but it simply isn't there.

To say it's an issue on every set is simply not correct because if that was the case then why did the tvs that WHF received for review not show the issue and why are so many tvs in showrooms across the country not showing the issue, plus there has been so much positive reviews on these tvs by people far more qualified than you or i that someone would have picked up on it as it's such an obvious issue.

As for my GT30, i have tested it with a blank white screen with my pixelprotector disc and it shows no discolouration atall...i am very fussy when it comes to tvs and this sort of issue is something that would have prompted me to return the tv and the first sign of it. I also had an XBox 360 until recently and the menus on that show the issue (as vids on Youtube testify) clearly on affected sets but again mine shows no sign of the issue, it's also clearly visible during day to day viewing yet again my tv shows no sign of the issue.

I'm not colour blind and i know what i'm looking for but the fact is it's just not present on my tv and i would have been the first to complain if it was that's for sure, unfortunatley for Panasonic it seems it may be bit of a lottery this year if you get a good example or a bad one as not all tvs are affected as far as i'm aware.

A bit of a sweeping statement really, which does not do anyone any favours.

As Oldboy said if it was present on all sets reviews would have picked it up, no reviewer would pass up on a issue like this.

It would appear however that Panasonic have a problem with this but nobody knows how many sets are affected. It really needs Panasonic to come out with the reasons why it's happening and what they intend to do to rectify the problem.

The very act of them keeping silent about it is not doing them any favours at all.

laserman16,

Totally agree with your comments and indeed it's the silence from Panasonic that is going to fuel this isuue even further, i am not saying the issue doesn't exist as it clearly does but it's the extent of it that needs investigation from Panasonic.

The details of an email contact from the Panasonic agent is welcome of course and perhaps a step in the right direction but it will take owners affected by the issue to contact them and make them aware of the issue before they take any real action or indeed investigate properly.

In order to stop the good reputation of their current range of award winning plasma tvs being tarnished they need to act quickly so lets hope they are quick to offer an answer and resolution to the issue.

Oldboy.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread I'm in the market for a TV at the moment and the Panasonics were one of the sets I have been looking at.

I'm also afraid that I am slowly being put off them by Panasonics silence on this issue.

Just wish they would come out with an honest answer about it, and if the answer is "the set is within spec" I shall know to look elsewhere.

I can't say i blame you laserman16 for being put off as this sort of issue would have made me think twice had i known about it before i bought my GT30 and i'm sure you aren't alone in your thinking which is clearly bad news for Panasonic.

It could just be a bad run in production or an unforseen production issue that's easy to resolve but the silence from Panasonic is still deafening and if i was in your situation i would definately be waiting to see what the response to the issue is before deciding to purchase or not.

You are absolutely correct that if they do say the issue "is within spec" then you are better looking elsewhere but that's a shame as the GT30 i have is nothing short of excellent for the money and i couldn't be happier with it, if you can get a good example i would say don't hesitate.

Hopefully some answers will be forthcoming from Panasonic soon.

There's no doubt that these TVs are fine sets given the review that What HiFi have give them, plus quite a few other very good reviews if people take the trouble to look, in fact no bad ones at all.

But................

Not sure. Gonna decide over the next couple of days. May end up getting a refund and wait till next year. Gutted if that's the case, as I was looking forward to watching some quality films over Xmas.
