Tannoy Eyris 2's, who likes 'em

Some of you will have seen my other thread, I'm looking for speakers for my Cyrus amp etc. A number of people (thanks guys) have recommended the Tannoy Eyris 2's? They are new at £499 reduced from £1000. They're an older design (2002 I think) but how do they stand up to newer speakers at £400 to £500 mark? Size wise they are perfect for me but I had originally expected to be buying stand mounts (epos m12.2, focal 806, b&w 685's). I need the speakers close to the back wall & it's about 3 metres across to the opposite wall (room is 4 x 3) and I'm running from a Cyrus 8vs amp and DVD8 as my CD player. I have to travel a bit to get to a Richer with a listening room and would at least want to take my amp with me, but I will do it if it's worth hauling my amp across London. Who likes them?

They are not very poppular pair (that's why they sell them off at half price!) Sound great to me.

They were released more or less the same time as the Sensy series. The Sensy had a big press reviews whether online or Hifi Mags while the Eyris for some reason never made it as a press'darlin.

The build qaulity of Eyris is sublime, great soundstage and not too fussy about positioning either. Personally I think they well worth the £500 asking price.

 Hi

Have just bought a pair of Eyris 2.

My Dad (whose info may be decades out of date!) had said to approach Tannoy with caution as they have/had a distinctive warm and relaxed sound that was/is not to everyone's taste. Actually I can hear a degree of truth in that, but still getting used to them and they are only a couple of days out the box.

They were down to £199 (originally £1000)

However, it turns out that each speaker
has a very different serial number and different speaker terminals: not
in itself a problem, but I am concerned that they might be different
editions that also have acoustic differences.

The
dealer said that they are not sold as matched pairs and that there
should be no difference. They don't have any more, so the choice is to
take them back or keep them.

While I am still getting used to the
sound, and in any case they are only out the box a couple of days,
nothing suggests to me that each has a different sound...

Anyone know about the
model history of these?

Or otherwise have any thoughts on this?
