It's often tough to convince people of the value of kit racks – but here's a hi-fi unit that should do just that.

Comprising tube racks and solid hardwood supports, the Icon Signature comes with four glass shelves. The top and bottom are secured, but the position of the others is flexible.

Sonically, it delivers a smooth, rich sound that helps reduce treble brightness. Detail and tonal balance are fine, and only a slight lack of urgency and excitement coupled with a smidgeon of low-end softness lets it down. In all other respects it's a decent upgrade.
