My equipment collection is on the bottom of this tab.

My question is since I bought my Roksan Kandy 2 a few days ago, it sounds really bright, almost to the point of piercing.  Don't get me wrong, the music is clear and sharp and realistic.  I have played with the 3 settings however on the Dacmagic, but it is still bright sounding.

What the music does lack is warmth.  Is their anything I can do to compensate for the brightness? Is it the Dac?

Give it a month to settle in. You'll probably find that it loses its sharpness. Very subtle fine tuning can be achieved later on with interconnects but you have a pretty revealing one. Also, keep the speakers straight out and not toed-in to avoid treble 'beaming'.

Not sure it's the AMP that is making it sound bright, I have this
amp and it certainly isn't as you describe in my system. Like the
previous post suggests, it could be because it is new - give it some
time to break in and i'm sure you'll be loving the sound it is capable
of producing.

I have a quick question for you actually,
slightly off topic but related to your kandy amp. Is the front of the
volume knob on your amp perfectly arched? Mine has a tiny recess in the
middle - I thought it might be a dent but it looks to perfectly formed
to be a dent and is only slightly visible. Weird question I know. Smile.

Give it some time to run in and then look at switching your speaker cable from QED to Chord. Rumour 2 matches well with the Chameleon.

Give it a few weeks and if you still feel the same, then it's likely you don't like the upsampling on the dacmagic, I have heard this with my beresford and it never sounded piercing in the least.

Thank you for you responses.  Can speaker wire really make that much of a difference?

They make subtle differences, but don't buy any add-ons until your amp has fully bedded in.

What's the accoustics of your room like? Do you have hard flooring? if so, go and buy rug and a bookcase after a few weeks (make sure your kandy has run-in).

Yes, but not to the same degree as changing core components. I use Audioquest Type IV, which is a single core biwire cable, very nice with the current setup and it's been in place for about ten years or so. No plans to shift it currently. If you want a warmer sound, I'd see if you can loan some similar cable from a dealer to try out at home. Audioquest seem to do warmer sounding cabling (I use their Copperhead interconnect between amp and CDP and it took the edge of an overly bright system in one fell swoop) so I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

If the sound got too bright when you changed the amp, then it's the amp.  Don't know the Kandy 2, but the Kandy 1 wasn't a very good product.  What amp were you using before?

Didn't like it at all when I heard it - YMMV.  I think with the wrong speakers it could be very bright and harsh.  Amp/speaker matching is important!

That was my observation of it too but a lot like it!

Re: Roksan Kandy 2 AMP 'To Bright'

Once again thanks for all your answers.  However it has opened more questions?

I had a friend around today who said the music sounded 'sharp' that was his expression of bright.

Can speakers make it sound that sharp 'bright'?  What speakers would you reccommennd under £1000?

How come their is no graphic equalizer on the amps these days?  Would a Graphic Equalizer sort the problem out?

What amplifier were you using before the Roksan? Was it not bright then?
