Hi there I am looking at buying an amp (cheapish ,used) it seems I may have a chance to get this amp very cheap but there is a problem with it that the seller describes as "small buzz when playing."  they go on to say seems to be an earthing issue and if they tie a wire around a slightly removed case screw and the other end around the earth pin of the plug it stops ......my question is does anyone know if this problem is somtthing pretty simple and easy to fix or cheap to get fixed

Could be something as simple as a dry joint as the A65/75 do suffer with them. Whether its worth buying depends on if you have the ability to fix it yourself as a repair cost will quickly make it not such a cheap amp. They only sell for approx £120-£150 fully working.

I'd give this particular one a miss. There's usually plenty of A65 and slightly less A75 for sale. Very good amps BTW.

I know it won't be worth it if it goes up much but at the moment its got no bids 99p start and only a day left +I can pick it up so no postage ,so I reckon it will go for hardly anything ....so I thought it might be worth a shot!

I have no electrical knowledge as such ,but amps are usually reasonably simple inside (and what can't you learn with a few hours online reading and you tube nowadays).... But if people reckon this is not going to be easy/ cheap to fix I will look the other way

Well he's detailed a cheap workaround if not a fix. But then it may just be something in his setup & nothing to do with the amp.

Just one other thing to check out, IIRC although the amp comes with a remote it can't be used to switch the amp on/off.

Yes I thought that the cheap workaround was so simple that the problem was probably pretty easy to fox as I don't really want to have wires tied to plug pins in electric sockets ....I also thought as they describe the problem and a workaround someone with some electrical knowledge might be able to say what was wrong exactly?

RE: arcam a75

As I said, it's entirely possible that there's nothing wrong with the amp. The problem could be the mains lead, his mains wiring, a ground loop, etc.

Looking at the back of an A75 the mains socket has an earth pin, so it's likely the case should be earthed anyway. It could be a bad earth there. So no-one can tell you exactly what the problem is.

I'd go for it but obviously up to you. If you get it & it does exhibit the same problem then speak to Arcam before you start fishing around inside or adding extra earthing.

At the moment I don't have anything but am planning on getting (hopefully ) a pair of wharfdale diamond 9.1 (might buy used if I can get cheap enough and close enough to collect) and a used amp (probably under £100 ) was looking at the avr200 but as I will mostly use for ps3/TV/PC but if I can get this for next to nothing I thought it would be worth a punt

Hi codnan

Thanks for your reply.

I am not sure about the AVR200 however i wouldn't recommend the A75. In my experience you'd be better off looking at an older Rotel amplifier.
