YouTube XL
A new version of YouTube, called YouTube XL, will make the video site accessible on big TV and computer screens

Watching YouTube on a big-screen TV is has not always been a pleasant experience, with poor picture quality and fussy menus.

But now YouTube has produced a simplified version of its popular video site, YouTube XL, specifically designed for viewing on large-screen TVs.

YouTube XL has stripped away all the fiddly bits of the website and replaced them with large fonts and simple menus. It will run on any web browser providing Flash is installed.

It's similar to the YouTube you find on the latest range of internet-enabled TVs from the likes of Philips, Panasonic and Samsung.

More after the break

You'll be able to view most of the content on the normal site, but right restrictions will mean some premium content is off-limits for TV viewing.

Naturally, you'll need to hook up a laptop or games console to your TV to watch YouTube on your bigger screen, but the viewing/searching experience should be improved. Don't expect top-notch picture quality, mind.
