If you want to level up your home cinema set-up for movies, TV shows, or the upcoming FIFA World Cup, then you may be looking at investing in one of the best projectors. If you're working on a budget though, I've just found a sneaky deal that will save you some serious money.

Right now, Samsung's The Freestyle 2nd Gen can be yours for just £297 at Richer Sounds, a whopping £600 saving and the lowest price we've ever seen it drop to. But, there are a couple of things you need to do.

Firstly, you'll need to enter code 'RSTV50' at checkout to secure a discount. Then, as this is a cashback deal, you'll have to pay the £349 before claiming 15 per cent (£52.35) back directly from Samsung. Full T&Cs can be found here.

We're yet to get Samsung's The Freestyle 2nd Gen into our testing rooms, but we were lucky enough to get hands-on at its launch event. And what we enjoyed in the four-star original Samsung The Freestyle, we found to be present again, along with a couple of new surprises.

And while we haven't made a definitive verdict, we still had plenty to say from our time with the newest model. Firstly, the 2nd Gen is pretty much identical in design, with its compact build, cylindrical body and podium-style base helping it stand out from rivals.

The spec sheet offers more of the same, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, alongside support for HDR10+ and HLG. It uses an LED light source, with a claimed 30,000-hour life span, and a claimed peak brightness of 230 ANSI lumens. The built-in speaker capable of 360-degree sound that featured in the original is back, as well as Samsung’s extremely clever auto keystone feature.

While physical connectivity options are limited to micro HDMI (although the connector does support HDMI ARC), The Freestyle excels in what it offers in terms of simplicity and portability with smart features and gaming abilities all built-in.

One of those new abilities is access to Samsung's Gaming Hub, meaning you can play Xbox games using an Xbox Game Pass subscription directly through it.

Plus, you've got access to Samsung's Tizen OS, which can be found on its TVs, giving you multiple streaming services including Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+, all of which are reached via dedicated hot keys on the remote control.

Visually, it was hard to get a clear impression of the 2nd Gen in the bright exhibition space we saw it in, but our expert tester said: "There appeared to be decent detail to the picture, with solid enough colours and good definition and detail on faces and clothing. One of the areas we criticised the original for was the below-par black levels, but it was impossible to really get an idea of this in an exhibition environment."

If you're looking for an entertaining projector that'll suit your movie watching and World Cup needs, the Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen is an incredibly entertaining option, especially at this knockdown price, just £297 at Richer Sounds.

The price of the Samsung HW-Q990F has been on a bit of a rollercoaster since it was released a year ago. It launched at an eye-watering £1699, so we were very happy to see it drop to a little below £800 in the Black Friday and Christmas sales.

But never has it dropped as low as £769, which is the price it's now on sale for at Amazon. That's a seriously good price given its five-star Award-winner status.

We love its “crisp and engaging sound and a whole new level of bass performance”, which means we have no reservations recommending it, especially now it can be yours for significantly less than half its original price.

The Samsung HW-Q990F is a five-star system made up of a soundbar, a subwoofer, and two surround speakers, stepping up the quality from the already five-star Q990D.

It’s an 11.1.4 system with 23 drivers across the bar, surrounds and subwoofer. That’s 15 drivers in the main soundbar, three drivers in each of the surround-sound units, and dual 20cm force-cancelling drivers in the subwoofer, which features a claimed 300W power output.

And all of this helps with sound quality, which our expert testers praise in our review, specifically when it comes to the redesigned subwoofer: “There is a much greater sense of tonal variation from this sub, which unearths a new layer to the bass. The Q990F’s bass feels more organic, balanced, and seamlessly integrated into the system as a result.”

Much smaller than the old model, the subwoofer makes all the difference, allowing for a more dynamic and engaging performance when it comes to scenes with heavy low-end effects.

In terms of connectivity, there are HDMI eARC and optical ports to handle audio transmission from your TV, while the additional two HDMI sockets serve as passthrough ports. Each is rated to the HDMI 2.1 standard, with support for up to 4K/120Hz signals plus HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

Despite its fairly eye-watering price at launch, there have been a fair few discounts, and right now, this entire package can be yours for just £769 at Amazon.

If you find the size or price of the JBL Charge 6 a little too much, this is a mighty alternative that's smaller, slimmer and less expensive. But, like the Charge 6, the Flip 7 also goes big on features.

There's a meaty 14 hours of battery life available on a single charge, ramped up with an extra two with Playtime Boost. Plus, Auracast functionality, the new sharing technology which lets you pair two Flip 7s together in stereo or hook up multiple units via the JBL Portable app.

The brilliant burrito-shaped speaker also has an IP68 rating, which means it's dust-proof and waterproof against prolonged submersion in fresh water, improving upon the Flip 6's IP67 certification. There's also wired listening for the first time, supporting up to 24-bit/96kHz lossless audio playback via a USB-C cable.

Sonically, this is the best Flip we've ever heard. It's bassier than before, with a smoother, more refined profile than the more hard-edged Flip 6 can manage.

This led our expert testers to say: "We know this is still a fairly compact portable Bluetooth speaker, but judged on such terms, the Flip 7 evidences what you might call genuine musicality. Native 4K laser projectors often cost an eye-wateringly high sum. Take the Bravia Projector 9, for example. This is the absolute bee's knees, but it costs a whopping £27,599.

If you've recovered from the shock of that, let me loop you into a fantastic deal on a step-down model. The Sony VPL-XW5000ES has plummeted to £3999 (was £5999).

That's not cheap, of course, but at this price it's much easier on the bank balance. It also performs excellently, achieving a coveted five stars and four Product of the Year Awards since we tested it in 2022.

This is the most affordable native 4K projector on the market, and if that's what you're looking for, this is the deal for you.

You can get cheaper 4K projectors, but none that boasts the VPL-XW5000ES's native 4K resolution and laser lighting.

Typically, all but the very premium (five-figure) 4K projectors apply ‘pixel shifting’ or ‘double flashing’ technology to native Full HD chipsets to create a 4K resolution (or a 4K effect) – but like Sony's higher-priced models, the 5000ES actually carries a real 4K 3840x2160 pixel count on its 0.61-inch SXRD imaging chips.

And the image it creates is spectacular. Our in-house testing experts say in our VPL-XW5000ES review that it “redefines projector expectations at its price”.

It earns its stripes over cheaper ‘4K’ laser projection rivals with its phenomenal sharpness, excellent black levels that are deep, rich and neutrally toned, and beautifully balanced, exceptionally nuanced and bold but controlled colours across the board. Its motion handling and upscaling are also superb.

There are a couple of downsides: there is no support for either of the HDR10+ or Dolby Vision advanced HDR systems, which isn't common in the projector world to be fair but is desirable; and the two HDMI connections do support 120Hz for gaming but not at 4K, only 1080p.

Otherwise, we have very few complaints. This is a highly desirable projector – and is priced as such, of course. That outlay is a touch more palatable now, though, thanks to this discount.

At £3999 at Richer Sounds, it is incredible value for anyone looking to start or upgrade their home cinema. The best part is that you don't need to do anything to unlock this discount, as the saving is automatically applied once you check out with this

Traditionally, prices tend to go back up after Black Friday, particularly on high-ticket items such as floorstanding speakers.

No one seems to have told Bowers & Wilkins, however, who have slashed another £60 off one of their fine floorstanders in the aftermath of Black Friday.

The Bowers & Wilkins 603 S3 are now £1,539 at Sevenoaks, which is a whopping £460 off the original launch price. That's a new lowest price for this pair!

Better yet, you can still get a 3m run of QED XT25 Speaker Cable (worth £84.95) included free of charge! You'll need to join Rewards by Sevenoaks for this, but have no fear – joining is completely free.

We recommend moving quickly, however, as the oak finish has already sold out.

The 603 S3 are the largest and most expensive speakers in Bowers & Wilkins' 600 series, and are also recommended by us as the best Bowers & Wilkins floorstanders we've tested recently.

The 603 S3 use a 25mm titanium dome tweeter, B&W’s custom 15cm Continuum midrange cone, and a pair of 16.5cm paper bass drivers.

Tech has also trickled down from the more expensive 700 series, including a more powerful motor assembly for the midrange driver, which utilises a special type of foam to suppress vibrations in pursuit of a purer, clearer sound.

Be warned that the 603 S3 are sizeable towers, measuring 102cm in height, but they're ideal for anyone with ample space who wants an eye-catching speaker set-up.

Luckily, the 603 S3's sound lives up to its size. As we said in our Bowers & Wilkins 603 S3 review, "There’s fullness and weight (to the music), with lots of drive and power that will please anyone looking for their music to enjoy a whole load of weight and muscle."

During testing, the speakers brought out detail and nuance while also adding clarity, focus and robust bass. They also showed an admirable knack for control and authority.

For context, we only gave the 603 S3 four stars, as the five-star PMC Prodigy 5 launched at a similar price and offered greater dynamism.

At the time of writing, though, the Prodigy 5 are still sitting at £1,995 – making the Bowers & Wilkins floorstanders a more affordable proposition. If you prefer large speakers and a substantial sound, consider the 603 S3, available with £460 off at Sevenoaks.

Black Friday may be over, but that doesn't mean all the best deals are gone. If you look hard enough, there's still some excellent discounts floating around – and I've spotted a great one.

For just £335 at Amazon, the Sonos Beam Gen 2, which just so happens to be one of the best soundbars we've ever tested and a What Hi-Fi? Award winner for 2025, represents excellent value.

While it's not quite the £327 we saw during Amazon Prime's Big Deal Days, it's still a lovely £114 discount that is available on both the Black or White model, so take your pick!

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 is a deeply impressive soundbar, taking everything the original Beam had to offer and adding genuinely convincing Dolby Atmos without changing the overall design or adding dedicated upward-firing drivers.

Instead, it's all done through clever processing using psychoacoustic HRTF (head-related transfer function) technology to deliver a sense of height using two of the unit's five front-facing drivers.

So, if space and budget are limited, there isn't a better virtual Dolby Atmos soundbar that we'd recommend.

During testing, we paired the Beam Gen 2 with TVs ranging from 43 inches to 65 inches, and our expert testers confirmed that "it enhances the cinematic scale and viewing experience".

The Dolby Atmos is really the headline feature for the Beam Gen 2, handling the format better than any similarly priced soundbar, producing spacious sound with good tracking of audio objects.

In terms of audio formats, the Beam Gen 2 supports stereo PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos (both the Digital+ and TrueHD versions), multichannel PCM and Dolby Multichannel PCM.

Decoding for DTS digital surround has now been added to this and other Sonos products but this sadly doesn't extend to DTS:X.

But it's also worth discussing the Beam Gen 2's streaming capabilities, which are plentiful. We're talking seamless integration into a wireless multiroom system via the Sonos S2 app, which also provides access to Trueplay room calibration technology and a two-band EQ.

Having wi-fi means you can also stream to the Beam Gen 2 from a handheld device using Apple AirPlay 2, and Spotify Connect is built-in too. Support for Amazon Music Ultra HD audio (for both the Beam Gen 2 and other Sonos models) is also now available and gives access to lossless 24-bit/48kHz tracks as well as Dolby Atmos Music.

And at a lovely price of £335 at Amazon, you can save some serious cash whilst still being able to experience why our testers said: "The Beam Gen 2 not only lives up to the high bar set by its predecessor but exceeds it by a margin that more than justifies its new feature set and higher cost." Oh, but you can take 25% off that higher cost. Even better.

With any deal event, whether it’s Black Friday or Cyber Monday, our review team doesn’t just have a duty to point you towards the best tech deals, but also to steer you away from savings that look pretty tempting on paper, but deep down, we just know there’s a better alternative elsewhere.

It might be the same price, or, if you’re lucky, even cheaper. Or, it might also be a tiny bit more expensive but we’d still recommend spending a tiny bit extra to get the added performance benefits that the product brings.

This is what I’ve done below. There are still plenty of tech deals ongoing for Cyber Monday but I’ve highlighted a handful which we think are worth avoiding because we have tested something that gives you more than just a low price to admire.

Stick with these alternative recommendations, and you won’t go wrong…

Don't buy… Amazon Echo Dot Max

On paper, the Echo Dot Max looks like a good upgrade on the 5th Gen Dot – bigger, twin driver units, and a new verison of Alexa. However, in our Echo Dot Max review, we felt that the Bluetooth speaker missed its mark completely, especially when it comes to sound quality. And this is why we think you should skip this model and go for the cheaper, smaller and older Echo Dot.

Don't buy… Samsung QE65S95F

In our Samsung S95F review, we described it as “the best Samsung OLED” money can buy. Now, that's high praise in itself, but we can go one better than that with a TV that boasts even better picture quality for an even better price. Movie fans need look no further than the all-conquering Sony Bravia 8 II 65-inch, which just edges out the Samsung on our wish list.

Don't buy… Technics SC-CX700

We love the convenience of all-in-one hi-fi systems like the Technics. They squeeze streaming smarts, a range of useful inputs and amplification into a pair of speakers. All you need to do is add power. However, in our Technics SC-CX700 review, we were left feeling slightly disappointed by the user experience and the lack of refinement in the sound quality department. Which is why we recommend the KEF alternative below.

Don't buy… Sony ULT Field 3

You'd think Sony would be able to mix it with the very best with its Bluetooth speakers, but we didn't think that was the case here. In our Sony ULT Field 3 review, we were left a little disappointed, concluding, "There’s nothing particularly offensive about how the Sony ULT Field 3 sounds, but by the same token, there’s nothing really memorable about it." For sound quality, it's easily trumped by this quality JBL alternative.

Don't buy… Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)

For the past few years, we think Bose has been neck-and-neck with Sony when it comes to the performance of its flagship noise-cancelling headphones. But following our time spent testing its latest model, it would appear there's now some daylight between the two. Our Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) review was generally positive, but this Sony alternative is clearly more musical-sounding and just provides a better overall experience. And they're cheaper.

Buy this instead… Sony WH-1000XM6

Roberts' tiny Revival Petite 2 radio is one of those products you can't help but fall in love with. It is adorably cute and small: its footprint is no bigger than an iPhone 16, it's about half the height of a Dr Pepper can, and your earbuds case will comfortably sit on top of it.

And it's lovely to listen to as well. From gentle Radio 4 programmes and BBC 6 Music tunes to your audiobooks or playlists streamed over Bluetooth, the What Hi-Fi? Award winning Petite 2 delivers everything with clarity, richness and punch that far belies its dinky dimensions.

This little DAB radio is one that I've been keeping my eye on this entire Black Friday season, hoping for a chunky discount – at least £10 or £20 off – so I could recommend it to everyone.

But as Cyber Monday starts closing in on its last hours, I must claim defeat, as the only real saving I've found on the Roberts Revival Petite 2 radio is equally tiny. Just £7.45, to be precise. You can find it for £91.55 at John Lewis, and what's even worse, this meagre saving is only on the Duck Egg finish.

All the other six finishes are available at their full price of £99, so this colourway is your only choice if you want to save a little bit of money on one of the best little DAB/FM radios with Bluetooth that you can carry around with you anywhere in the house.

And you really can plonk it everywhere: on the windowsill, at the corner of your desk, on a bedside table, on a bookshelf, in the garden, or even chuck it in your bag – no matter how small your space, the Petite 2 radio will fit anywhere.

Battery life is a considerable 20 hours, you can charge it up via USB-C, and it even comes with a 3.5mm headphone socket so you can listen at night in peace. You can save 20 presets in total (10 DAB/DAB+, 10 FM), while Bluetooth pairs swiftly and with no fuss to our smartphone and laptop.

In our review, we said: "It’s a lively, rhythmically engaging sound that has a surprising amount of weight and punch to it, given the unit's size. The way it handles voices is a highlight, sounding clean, solid and detailed."

We're not expecting big scale or lashings of deep bass from such a petite unit, but there is ample solidity and richness to the detail, along with confident dynamics and toe-tapping rhythm to keep our attention hooked.

Is it a great Cyber Monday deal? Not really. Is it a great product? Absolutely. Deal or no deal, the Roberts radio is a well-designed, great-sounding product that's lovely to use and listen to. So even if I haven't been able to find a great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal on it, I would still wholeheartedly recommend it at full price. And you can pick the colour you want without having to restrict your choices.

If you do, however, want to save a few pennies and aren't fussed about the colours, then this titchy deal of £91.55 at John Lewis and at Amazon is worth a gander.

If you look at our best TV guide and the latest What Hi-Fi? Awards 2025 winners list, you’ll see a lot of OLED sets in both – with good reason.

OLED’s pixel-level light control lets TVs create perfect blacks in a way no LCD panel can. If you’re a serious movie fan who wants the best picture possible, there’s a strong chance you’re one of many people considering getting an OLED over Cyber Monday.

The rub? Even during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, an OLED TV is still undeniably expensive – especially if you want a big-screen model. Heck, the 65-inch LG C5 dropped to its lowest price ever during the event at Richer Sounds, but it will still set you back a hefty £1279 right now.

Which is why bargain-hunting readers may be hovering their mouse cursor or thumb over a seemingly incredible deal on Amazon.

The discount it is currently offering on the 65-inch Toshiba XF9F53DB OLED, lets you grab the lounge filling set for a modest £699. That’s by far the lowest price I’ve seen on a 65-inch OLED this year.

And yet I have a huge word of caution about it: be aware that you are taking a huge gamble. We haven't yet tested the Toshiba XF9F53DB, so we know nothing about its performance.

I have tested OLED TVs since the technology first launched, so please trust me when I say that buying blind is a big gamble. I’ve seen plenty of OLED TVs in my nearly two decades of reviewing, and there can be big performance differences between them.

I can also confirm that having an OLED panel doesn’t automatically make a TV ‘good’. Aggressive contrast, poor colour volume, oversaturation and terrible motion handling: all issues I have experienced on OLED TVs while reviewing them.

Without testing the Toshiba, it's far safer for me to point buyers to a known factor that the team and I have reviewed and know is worth your money. There are two solid options available right now, in roughly the same price ballpark as the Toshiba.

Those who just want a solid 65-inch TV and aren’t 100 per cent committed to an OLED panel, should definitely consider the TCL C7K. As luck would have it, the Award-winning set is currently on sale for £749 at Currys. That’s a solid £150 saving on a set we currently refer to as the best Mini LED TV for most people.

Highlights include an explosively bright but immersive picture and solid gaming specifications. A couple of the reasons we gave it a five-star rating and Award, with our reviewers clearly stating:

“Super-aggressive pricing, much-improved Mini LED backlighting and expansive Quantum Dot colour make the TCL C7K a performance-per-pound champ.”

Next up, for those who really do want an OLED, I suggest looking down a size or two and checking out the five-star 48-inch Samsung S90F. It is currently available for £790 on Amazon – the lowest price I’ve seen, and a solid £710 off its launch price.

I was one of the reviewers in the room when we ran it head to head with its main rivals, the 48-inch LG C5 and 48-inch Panasonic Z90B. While it didn’t quite beat the Z90B from a pure picture quality perspective, with its colours occasionally looking a little over-baked, it remains a stellar OLED.

On top of that, it’s the cheapest you’ll find right now among the big three, and the best you’ll get from a performance-per-pound perspective, with the Z90B cost £350 more. Which is why I’m currently recommending it to any OLED shopper who can’t afford to spend more than a grand. It's far less of a risk than the wild-card Toshiba.

Black Friday has given way to Cyber Monday, and while some of the best deals from this weekend have dried up, there is one home cinema bargain that remains, and it happens to be one of the best from the world of home cinema.

The Award-winning Hisense PL2 can still be found at a record-low price of £959 at a few retailers, saving you £1040 from the original price. You'll want to head to Richer Sounds, Sevenoaks Sound and Vision or Peter Tyson to score this saving.

Amazon, on the other hand, has it listed for £1199; that's £240 more than the retailers listed above. Avoid paying over the odds this Cyber Monday by ditching Amazon if you're thinking of picking up this five-star projector.

Capable of beaming an image up to 150 inches onto your projector screen or, in a pinch, your wall, the PL2 offers up a feast of impressive picture and sound credentials.

This UST utilises Hisense's X-Fusion Laser Technology, which is capable of producing a bright 2700 lumen image, with punchy and vibrant colours to match. Despite this, we considered the PL2 to be balanced and consistent in our full review, and the 4K resolution means details are sharp.

Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are both supported, which is appreciated as many projectors include neither, and Dolby Atmos is featured via the 30W speaker system, as well as via HDMI eARC.

Better still, Hisense includes its comprehensive Vidaa streaming platform on board, meaning you won't need to plug anything into the PL2 if streaming is your preferred method of watching.

The only area where the PL2 lags slightly behind is its gaming specifications. HDMI 2.1 is technically on board, but the projector can only reach 60Hz at 4K, or 120Hz at 1080p.

There is also an included game mode, which is automatically applied when the projector detects a signal from a gaming source. Ultimately, at this price, we find that small gaming-related setback to be far from a dealbreaker.

At its launch price of £1999, we already considered this projector to offer huge value for money. However, at just £959 at Richer Sounds – a discount of £1040 – this becomes one of the best value home cinema deals of the year.

If you want to nab these iconic Sony earbuds, you'd better at fast. Not just because the deal won't last long – neither will the 'buds themselves!

The Sony WF-C700N have vanished from most retailers, including Amazon, Richer Sounds and Smart Home Sounds. But you can still buy them from direct from the manufacturer. And you should – they're still available at their lowest ever price of just £55 at Sony. But probably not for long.

If you're not familiar with the Sony WF-C700N, what have you been doing for the last few years? These puppies won Product of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, and were only usurped as the best noise-canceling earbuds at their price by their successors, the WF-C710N.

The all-important sound also impressed us in our Sony WF-C700N review, with the bass being a particular standout. We said: "It’s not just the weight, depth and solidity of the notes that impresses, it’s also the layers of detail the Sony uncovers and their ability to paint the notes with believable texture."

They're small for earbuds but remarkably comfortable, with a subtle textured surface that ensures they stay in with ease, whether you’re doing a five-kilometre run or a five-minute walk to the shops.

Active noise cancellation at £55 is also not to be sniffed at, while other features include Bluetooth Multipoint, a companion app, and Adaptive Sound Control ,which means the buds can automatically switch listening modes depending on your location.

Sony's DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) can upscale low-res digital audio files to higher quality, while there's 7.5 hours of battery life per charge (with the case providing another 7.5 hours).

A newer model, the Sony WF-C710N, are also on sale for £75 at Amazon and well worth considering. The WF-C710N boast better ANC and a longer battery life than the WF-C700N – you can see the full differences in our Sony WF-C710N vs WF-C700N guide.

However, the Sony WF-C700N for £55 at Sony is an absolute steal. And it could be your last chance to buy a classic.

If you don't have the space or budget for a multi-speaker system in your living room, investing in a soundbar may suit your needs perfectly well. And, for those wanting an immersive audio performance that can take the cinematic experience even further, choosing a soundbar with Dolby Atmos support is a great option.

With a range of different Atmos soundbars on offer, it can be difficult to know which ones are worth buying. Take the Marshall Heston 120, for instance, a 5.1.2-channel soundbar that marked the brand's first leap into the category. The soundbar launched at £900, placing it neatly in the upper end of the soundbar market.

It certainly takes a different approach in terms of design compared to the majority of other models, sporting retro-looking knobs that are certainly taking a leaf from the brand's rock and roll roots.

There is HDMI eARC for connection to your TV, plus a dedicated HDMI input, and it can pass through 4K/120Hz signals.

Those specifications certainly sound promising, but when we got the model into our test room, the Heston 120 didn't impress with its audio performance. There is a good tonal balance and cohesiveness, and a decent low-level dynamic subtlety so that voices can retain their intended emotional resonance.

But these low-level dynamics do not handle dramatic shifts very well, resulting in an overall flat and uninteresting performance. We say in the review: "It’s a soundbar that is capable of going quite loud, but it doesn’t seem either willing or able to produce the volume changes necessary to deliver real drama. In fact, we even wondered if Night mode had been activated inadvertently (it hadn’t)."

That all resulted in a three-star review from us, meaning Marshall's first soundbar didn't manage to make a meaningful mark. And, despite being released for a number of months, we haven't seen any discounts on the Marshall bar for Black Friday.

But don't worry! There's another Dolby Atmos soundbar available right now that we gave a glowing five-star review. Plus, there's a great discount for Cyber Monday, which makes this model even more tempting.

The Award-winning Sonos Arc Ultra is available for £719 at Richer Sounds, lopping a whole £280 off its original price.

A Sonos alternative that ticks all the right boxes

So what makes this model stand out from the rest? For starters, the Sonos Arc Ultra offers a level of precision and detail that is incredibly rare to find in a soundbar at this price point.

We note in our review while watching Blade Runner 2049: "Incidental noises such as footsteps, a tooth being gently placed on a glass table, and the soft squeak of a rubber surgical gown as a character stretches out his arm are all delivered clearly and cleanly but in an unforced manner, contributing to the atmosphere without distracting."

It delivers an excellent bass performance as well, certainly outdoing the Marshall Heston 120 in terms of low-level dynamics. While it doesn't go to floor-shaking levels of bass, the low-frequency notes hit with lots of force and stop precisely.

In terms of connectivity, there's wi-fi and Bluetooth support as well as an HDMI eARC output to easily connect to your TV, where it will become your TV's speakers with no need for a remote. We would have liked to have seen a few more HDMI sockets but that won't be a huge issue for most people.

So, if you're hunting for a premium Dolby Atmos soundbar to take your home cinema's audio to the next level, the Sonos Arc Ultra is an easy recommendation. And the £280 Cyber Monday saving at Richer Sounds makes this a no-brainer.

If you're searching for one of the best stereo amplifiers to invest in this Cyber Monday, then we think the NAD D 3020 V2 is well worth considering.

It's a superb performer at full price but that purchase is now a lot easier on the wallet thanks to a £100 price cut. That means you can snap up the five-star amplifier for just £299 at Amazon.

This slim, upright-orientated NAD D 3020 V2 amp is a unique, left-field design compared to most amps around. It's faithful to the classic 1970 original design that was incredibly popular, and the V2 model's dimensions are hugely appealing for those with limited space looking for a smaller hi-fi separate.

There's an abundance of connectivity here for such a compact amp: a moving-magnet phono stage for your turntable, alongside optical, coaxial and RCA inputs for plugging in a CD player, a network streamer and even a TV into this little NAD.

To add to the convenience, Bluetooth aptX streaming is also on board.

The D 3020 V2 is a great-sounding unit, too. In keeping with the original's tradition-breaking mould, it uses Class D amplification to offer 30W per channel. That's more than plenty to drive compact speakers and deliver an entertaining sound.

The presentation is tonally even with a natural balance throughout, while detail levels are great for this price.

But it's the NAD's strengths with timing and dynamics that will really win you over – it's an engaging approach that gets to the heart and spirit of any song.

I'm rather partial to half-width electronics and small speakers that punch above their weight, and if, like me, you have limited space in your house for a full hi-fi system, the NAD would fit right in.

Add in the ultra-budget, ultra-compact WiiM Pro Plus to add extensive streaming powers, a good pair of wired headphones – Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X or Austrian Audio Hi-X20 – and you've got a very capable, compact hi-fi system that won't take up too much room on a desk.

The NAD D 3020 V2 is a versatile little amp and one that has been in the What Hi-Fi? team's affections for many, many years. For its current £299 price at Amazon, it's a very tempting deal.

In the past year, I've been involved in the testing of around 50 TVs.

Yes, that's a lot of TVs, and one of my favourites is the LG G5, which employs a fancy new Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel to dazzling effect.

It's a very tempting TV right now, too, as it's dropped to a record-low price of £1889 at Peter Tyson.

But here's the thing: as much as I like the LG G5, the Sony Bravia 8 II is even better. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the best TV I've ever tested.

The Bravia 8 II is discounted for Cyber Monday, too. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than the G5 – £1999 at Peter Tyson – but the extra is well worth paying, particularly if you're not going to partner your new TV with a dedicated sound system.

The Bravia 8 II is the successor to the A95L (a TV I love so much, I have one in my own living room), and it's a significant upgrade.

It uses a newer, significantly brighter QD-OLED panel, for starters. Sony doesn't push the brightness as high as LG does with the G5's Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, but it combines the increased brightness with richer colours and Sony's peerless processing to produce an image that's exceptionally punchy and three-dimensional, but still consistent and authentic.

This is a TV that dazzles with bold, stylised content, yet it never strays into the oversaturated, over-processed territory that some rivals occasionally find themselves in. Instead, the Bravia 8 II maintains Sony’s trademark naturalism, delivering that careful balance between vibrancy and subtlety.

Dark-scene performance is especially strong. Gradation is handled with a finesse the G5 doesn’t quite match, producing true OLED blacks and shadow detail that feels layered rather than crushed.

And, as ever with Sony, you barely need to touch the settings. As noted in my original review:

“For a supremely authentic picture, simply pick Dolby Vision Dark for Dolby Vision content or Professional for everything else.

“Should you want a little more pop to proceedings, either because you’re watching in a room with ambient light or simply because you enjoy an even more thrilling delivery, simply switch to Dolby Vision Bright or the Cinema mode.”

Audio is another feather in the Bravia 8 II’s cap. Its Acoustic Surface Audio+ system produces direct, articulate sound with an openness that most OLED rivals – including the LG G5 – simply can't match.

A dedicated sound system will always be the better option (the Sonos Arc Ultra remains an excellent match), but for built-in speakers alone, the Bravia 8 II is unusually capable.

If there’s one caveat, it’s connectivity: Sony still limits you to two HDMI 2.1 sockets (one doubling as the eARC port), whereas LG offers four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs on the G5.

For setups with multiple consoles and an AVR or soundbar, that’s something to consider. But if you have just one games machine or none at all, that won't be an issue.

And that’s ultimately why I’d recommend the Bravia 8 II over the G5: while the LG has more HDMI 2.1 sockets and higher brightness, the Sony delivers a picture and sound experience that simply feels more cinematic, more refined, and more consistently satisfying.

The Sony WH-CH720N remain the best wireless headphones for those on a budget. And what is true at full price is infinitely more true at their discounted Cyber Monday price of just £59.

That's a price drop that sees them plummet to a record low and a frankly ludicrous price for a product that we rated five stars and gave a What Hi-Fi? Award (at full price).

Considering their great sound, comfortable fit, and now tempting price, we really can’t think of any other headphones that you should consider for under £100.

As we said in our Sony WH-CH720N review, “No shrinking violets, they imbue their musical cargo with heft and conviction, operating on the front foot in delivering an immediate, assertive sound with an emphasis on forceful, burly bass.”

On the subject of that bass, we did find it could become a little overzealous at times, but Sony’s companion app lets you adjust the EQ to your heart’s content.

We did also find, as should be expected given the huge price disparity, that more premium pairs, such as Sony’s own WH-1000XM5, are more effective at blocking out external noise with more powerful ANC technology.

That said, we did find that, for the money, “these affordable Sonys do an effective job of dampening, if not silencing completely, the rumble and swoosh of each passing car as it whizzes its way past on a busy nearby road”.

We could go on and on about how well we think they perform, but we think you should judge for yourself.

We’re not sure how long this Amazon deal will last, so we suggest jumping on it quickly...

I always keep an eye on the Technics SL-1500C turntable when Black Friday rolls around, as any price drop on this five-star, What Hi-Fi? Award winner is worth a look.

Just last week on Black Friday itself, the SL-1500's price was £749 at Sevenoaks – that's £150 less than its usual retail price of £899. And today, come Cyber Monday, it's dropped another £50!

That means you can pick up the Technics SL-1500C for its lowest-ever price of £699 at Sevenoaks right now, representing a total £200 saving. The only catch? The black and silver finishes are out of stock, but the white colour is available at this knockdown price.

Why is this Technics record player so recommendable? First and foremost, it sounds great. It received five stars and multiple Award wins for its incredibly dynamic, stable and authoritative performance.

For its price point, it sounds precise and composed, and delivers all kinds of music – from sparse vocals to large-scale orchestral works – with clarity and a deft handling of rhythm and detail. It never sounds disorganised, no matter how complex the arrangement gets.

The build quality is impressive: it is rock-solid and of a high quality, offering the kind of sturdy reliability that Technics DJ decks are renowned for. Every element is beautifully engineered and the SL-1500C feels an absolute joy to use.

It's hard to keep track of what day it is when Amazon's Black Friday week soars through the official Black Friday and crashes straight into Cyber Monday. We're left feeling a bit like we've taken a trip in the DeLorean.

Regardless of the actual date, what we do know is there are discounts to be had and there are some pretty serious ones.

Take the Bose SoundLink Max as one juicy example: it has dropped to the excellent price of just £294 at Amazon – that's the lowest we've ever seen it. In true sales fashion, however, it won't be hanging around for long.

The Bose SoundLink Max has impressed us since 2024 when it stormed onto the market as one of the best Bluetooth speakers money can buy, holding a spot as a speaker we would seriously consider.

Fortunately, thanks to Amazon's Black Friday week, this five-star speaker can be yours for a fraction of the usual price.

Serving up a powerful, musical sound that really mixes it with the best of them, the SoundLink Max delivers fun and force from a simple, understated design.

With a ruggedised, rubberised rectangle build holding an IP67 rating, it's water and dust-proof, as well as being nice and tactile. And the cute carry handle, which twists and locks into fitting on top of the main unit, makes it super portable, too.

Feature-wise, it's an impressive offering, with aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec support and Google Fast Pair (for Android users) all on board. And the Bose has Bluetooth multipoint, so you can have two devices connected simultaneously and switch between them at your leisure.

And that's on top of the claimed 20 hours of battery life, depending on how you use it. The amount of juice remaining is easily kept track of with a simple press and hold of the power button to find out how long you've got left to enjoy your tunes.

But how does it perform sonically? Straight out of the box, we found it to be very bassy. Turning down the bass setting to around minus five or six still gives us more than enough in terms of quantity but also improves the quality of sound.

In our full review, we say: "Once we tweak this setting, we leave the rest alone and just let the Bose get on with the job of entertaining us. Which it does extremely well."

It's a standout speaker that is unfussy and hugely enjoyable to listen to whatever you play through it.

And right now, in this cheeky Cyber Monday deal, you can grab it for just £294 at Amazon. You'll be hard pushed to find it at that price after the sales event is over.

As if by magic (or just time passing), Black Friday has turned into Cyber Monday, but that certainly doesn't mean the best deals are done and dusted – especially as far as Amazon is concerned.

And while I've been raking the pages of Amazon's crazy sale across the sales period, this one stopped me in my tracks.

For just £349 at Amazon, the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 headphones can be yours for the best price we've ever seen, beating out the previous record low by an extra £50.

Unbelievable news for anyone yet to commit to the stylish ANC cans and even better news if you had your eyes on the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 but can't stretch to the hefty £629 price tag.

So, if you love a bargain and don't mind previous-gen headphones that are still undeniably five star, then now is the time to act – before it's too late!

The five-star Bowers & Wilkins Px8 may now be considered an older model, but they've made a positive and lasting impression that continues to impress.

And with £250 slashed off the price, it's hard to complain about the premium quality on offer at a now incredibly competitive price for Cyber Monday.

In our review, the expert testers were immediately impressed by the lovely build and impressive comfort straight out of the box. And were pleased to learn that the Px8 is packed with features to boot.

We're talking Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX HD and aptX Adaptive compatibility for higher quality streams, four microphones for active noise cancelling, plus another two for voice pick-up in phone calls.

Plus, a claimed 30-hour of battery life shows they've certainly got enough stamina to last you on long-distance flights and most other use cases we can think of. Then there's the upgraded B&W Music app that gives you direct access to music services such as Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer.

While the ANC is generally good, we feel compelled to recommend Sony's cheaper WH-1000XM5 and masters-of-ANC Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones for complete silence, but we've also got to follow that up with the fact that the Sony and Bose cans won't sound quite as good.

And sonically, the Px8s seriously impress with our experts saying: "Anyone familiar with recent efforts from Bowers & Wilkins won’t be surprised with what the Px8 deliver in sound quality, but they will still be impressed. There is a level of clarity and insight here that we haven’t heard bettered at this level."

So, if you're after hugely capable performers that justify their price tag, you'll be pleased to learn that that price just got a whole lot cheaper for Cyber Monday, dropping to just £349 at Amazon.

You won't get much cheaper than that, but you'll have to be quick.

If you’re shopping for a small-ish OLED TV during Cyber Monday, I have some good news.

Not one, but three of the best 48-inch OLED TVs I had the pleasure to help review this year have had decent discounts.

If you were to ask me, though, if you should get LG’s small C5, or our current Award-winner, the 48-inch Panasonic Z90B, my answer would be “neither”.

No, at its current price of £790 on Amazon, I wholeheartedly recommend that most buyers go for the 48-inch Samsung S90F.

Why this set, when we gave this year’s best premium 48-50in TV What Hi-Fi? Award to the 48-inch Panasonic Z90B, not the Samsung? It’s all to do with our hallowed performance-per-pound metric.

We always factor this into our buying advice, and while the Samsung may not be as good at full price, with the Z90B offering a bit more control and generally authentic picture, the Panasonic is currently retailing for £1099 at Richer Sounds (save £400). And at that price, it’s too expensive.

The improvements don’t merit spending that extra £310. The Samsung offers excellent picture quality in its own right, and it has better gaming specifications than the Panasonic, offering four full-speed HDMI 2.1 inputs.

The Z90B has only two sockets that can run modern game consoles at full speed – and one of those doubles as the eARC connection required for a Dolby Atmos soundbar.

As we say in our S90F review:

“This is an excellent 48-inch OLED overall – one of the best we have tested, despite the slight colour exaggeration. For your money, you’ll get a bright, punchy, smallish OLED capable of delivering a fun home-movie experience full of pop. Add to this flawless gaming specifications and excellent app support, and you get a TV that we are happy to recommend.”

If you’re wondering why I’m not pushing you to the 48-inch LG C5, over the Samsung, there are two simple reasons. First, the S90F is £110 cheaper, with the 48-inch LG C5 selling for £899 at Amazon.

And second because, having had the two side by side, I can confirm the Samsung offers a slightly better picture. Though it does occasionally overbake colours compared with the C5, the S90F manages to retain colour volume during low-light scenes a lot better than the LG, making it a better option for most movie fans, in our opinion.

If you want a 48-inch OLED TV right now, then, I strongly recommend taking advantage of Amazon’s current deal on the Samsung S90F while stocks last.

If you thought the deals were finished now that Black Friday has passed, think again. Cyber Monday has lopped another £80 off the already-discounted price of the Sonos Arc Ultra, bringing the Award-winning soundbar down to just £719 at Richer Sounds.

That's a total discount of £280.

Which is enough to tempt me, even if the soundbar did totally embarrass my TV recently.

If you're wondering how exactly the Arc Ultra embarrassed my TV recently, just look at the picture atop this article. It just goes to show what happens when you don't measure up before you buy.

Although in fairness, I hadn't bought it, I was testing it in conjunction with the Sonos Ace headphones – here are my findings.

At this price though, I'm seriously tempted. The firm's flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar won a What Hi-Fi? Award this year, taking the place of the original Arc (which won a whole bunch of Awards over the years).

The chief reason for this is, of course, its sound.

"Perhaps contrary to expectations, it’s not vastly bassier than the original Arc, but its low end is significantly more controlled, tuneful and better defined," we wrote in our Sonos Arc Ultra review.

"And that’s just the start of the improvements. It really is quite amazing how much more crisp, spacious, precise and detailed the Ultra sounds."

In terms of connectivity, there's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support as well as an HDMI eARC output to easily connect to your TV, where it will become your TV's speakers with no need for a remote. We would have liked to have seen a few more HDMI sockets, but that won't be a huge issue for most people.

Ever since it graced our test rooms last year, the Sonos Arc Ultra has been one of the soundbars to beat for an immersive, single unit Dolby Atmos experience. It was a great product at its launch price – but at just £719 at Richer Sounds, it comes highly recommended. Now I just need a new TV to go with it.

Black Friday has given way to Cyber Monday, and while most of the TV deals have stayed the same, the excellent Sony Bravia 8 has dropped in price even further.

Today, you can get the 55-inch Bravia 8 for £1258 at Amazon, the 65-inch model for £1499 at Peter Tyson, and the 77-inch version for £2429 at Richer Sounds.

This is a superb, five-star, What Hi-Fi? Award-winning OLED TV, and it's never been cheaper than it is right now, but I don't recommend buying it.

Why? The reasons are two-fold:

First, Sony recently launched a new version of the Bravia 8 called the Bravia 8A. This has a non-backlit version of the Bravia 8's remote, and it comes with fewer credits for the Sony Pictures Core streaming service, but Sony says the performance is identical.

And, crucially, at most sizes, it's cheaper than the Bravia 8.

The second reason is that the LG C5 is newer and even better than the Bravia 8 – and loads cheaper than both of the Sony options for Cyber Monday.

So, while I'm a big fan of the Sony Bravia 8, it's definitely the LG C5 that I recommend buying right now.

I've included a handy table below with all of the best prices available right now for all three TVs, so you can instantly compare them.

Why choose the C5 over the Bravia 8?

So, why do I prefer the LG C5 to the Sony Bravia 8? The current pricing has a lot to do with it, of course, but, honestly, I would choose the C5 over the Bravia 8 even if they were the same price.

The Bravia 8 was the best performance-per-pound TV of last year, when it defeated the last-gen LG C4. However, LG then made just enough improvements to this year's C5 to surpass the Bravia 8 in performance.

The C5 is a super-crisp OLED TV, with great colours, excellent motion handling and loads of detail. It has a better, more user-friendly operating system and smart platform, too.

The C5 is also a big step up for gamers, thanks to the presence of four full-fat HDMI 2.1 sockets that all support 4K/120Hz (4K/144Hz if you have a fancy PC), VRR and ALLM. The Sony has just two such sockets, and it doesn't go up to 144Hz.

An excellent HGiG mode makes it even easier to get excellent, accurate HDR from games with the C5, too.

There's one way in which the Bravia 8 thrashes the C5, and that's sound. That said, either TV should be partnered with a dedicated audio system (even if that's a fairly affordable soundbar), and the price difference means budgeting for such a thing should be easier if you go for the LG TV.

Buying a TV during Black Friday can be an overwhelming experience. You have the likes of Sony, Samsung, Hisense, TCL, LG, Panasonic and Philips all vying for your attention and, more importantly, your hard-earned cash.

Choosing the right model is easier said than done, as there are different panel technologies to consider, screen sizes and specifications which will all influence how you use your TV and the picture performance you'll receive.

There's also an added layer of considering whether the Black Friday deal is actually good, or if the savings aren't really worth it.

It's exhausting, but luckily for you, you don't have to go through any of that stress if you simply follow my advice.

I've been reviewing the latest 2025 TVs all year, and when I've not been in the AV testing room, I've been flying around the world to see the latest TVs in action ahead of their official launches.

I've distilled my Black Friday TV buying guidance into three simple options: a budget choice, a mid-range TV and a premium flagship model, meaning you can pick the TV that best aligns with your budget.

I've selected a trio of 55-inch and 65-inch TVs; however, if you're looking for a smaller option, I'd urge you to look a the 42-inch LG C5 or 48-inch LG C5. And for anyone who wants an XL TV, there is the 98-inch TCL C7.

I've chosen these TVs on their picture performance merits primarily, however they all also feature excellent specs elsewhere, including HDMI 2.1 gaming support and built-in streaming platforms.

Without further ado, here is my distilled Black Friday TV guidance...

The best value choice

I've recommended this TV during the Black Friday sales a few times, and recently cited it as the best choice "if OLED is out of the question".

It delivers convincing black depths with minimised blooming thanks to TCL's effective Halo Control technology, while the 1008 dimming zones and claimed 2800 nits of peak brightness allow for impressive brightness that is also surprisingly disciplined.

This TV is also impressively feature-rich, with two HDMI 2.1 sockets that can handle signals up to 4K/144Hz with VRR and ALLM, support for both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, and there's even a decent built-in sound system that's been tuned by legendary Danish hi-fi brand Bang & Olufsen.

This TV launched for £899, and it's £150 off in the Black Friday sales; it might not look like a huge price reduction, but this TV was already punching well above its weight, so the fact that it's even cheaper right now makes it an easy recommendation for anyone working with a slightly tighter budget.

The best mid-range choice

The 55-inch LG C5 OLED TV is a gem in the mid-range sector. It leverages a "traditional" WOLED panel to deliver sensational contrast and deep, true blacks, which makes for an impressive and immersive cinematic image.

Paired with four HDMI 2.1 sockets, all of which are full bandwidth for 4K/144Hz gaming with VRR and ALLM and LG's extensive webOS smart platform full of streaming apps, the LG C5 is both fully-featured and great-looking.

The only area that's a slight let-down is the built-in sound. However, the 55-inch model, which we reviewed at £1900, has dropped below £1000 and can now be found for around £989 at many retailers.

I'd recommend using the savings to invest in a Sonos Arc Ultra. which has also been discounted for Black Friday.

The best premium choice

The cream of the 2025 TV crop is the 55-inch Sony Bravia 8 II, an OLED TV that blew us away when we first tested it earlier this year.

It leverages a QD-OLED panel for enhanced brightness, and the combination of Sony's XR Processor and its prestigious picture tuning to create a contrast-rich, finely detailed and supremely three-dimensional image.

Much like the other options on this list, it supports the latest gaming features (enhanced by Sony's Perfect for PlayStation protocol), and it scores the highest on this list for the built-in sound thanks to Sony's excellent actuator-based drivers.

This TV is guaranteed to impress even the toughest cinephiles thanks to its rich and balanced image, and at an almighty £1000 discount, it's also a superb deal this Black Friday.

Even for audiophiles, there are some headphones with a price tag that firmly sits in the 'aspirational' category.

The Focal Stellia certainly fit that particular bill. Focal is well known for its luxury audiophile cans, but the Stellia really did push the boundaries when they launched at an eye-watering £2799(!).

However, as our five-star Focal Stellia review shows, they're clearly excellent headphones for those who can afford them. Plus, they've just become a little bit more affordable – we've found a Black Friday deal that brings the Focal Stellia's price down to £2599 at Peter Tyson.

It's not a huge discount, but at this price, any savings are welcome!

The Focal Stellia act as an open-backed alternative to the wonderfully named Focal Utopia, which sounded excellent but were better suited to private listening thanks to their open-backed design.

The Stellia remedies this, offering a closed-back configuration for those listeners likely to encounter noise in their home setup. As you'd expect from Focal, the build is lovely and luxurious, with a nicely padded headband that is both comfortable and stable over long periods.

Thanks to the same 40mm Beryllium dome drive unit as the Utopias, it's no surprise that the Stellia sound amazing. In our review, we called them the best closed-back headphones we'd heard, though bear in mind that was back in 2019, so things have moved on a bit since then.

"Given a few days to run-in, the Focals deliver by the truckload," our review reads. "Our initial impression is that of a mature and refined performance, and that feeling never fades."

You will, of course, need some high-end equipment to get the most out of the Stellia. We recommend the Chord’s Hugo 2 DAC/headphone amp, with a suitable source such as a quality laptop with audiophile music playing software such as Audirvana.

If you have the funds and the setup, then we highly recommend the Focal Stellia. The closed-back audiophile headphones have a price tag to match their talents, but the blow is softened a little now that they're £200 off at Peter Tyson.

Our projector: Sony VPL-XW5000ES

Sony's entry-level native 4K laser projector is on a What Hi-Fi? Award-winning streak, scoring its fourth Product of the Year title earlier this month.

It's still a pricey piece of kit, but this deal at Richer Sounds knocks £2000 off a supremely talented beamer that delivers seriously impressive contrast and black depths, sharp details, and rich yet balanced colours for an overall showstopping cinematic experience.

Our only gripe is the lack of motorised lens controls, but once you have the VPL-XW5000ES in place, you'll quickly forgive this minor shortcoming on account of its stellar picture.

Our OLED TV: Sony Bravia 8 II

The Award-winning Sony Bravia 8 II has been the TV we've obsessed over this year, and for good reason, too.

It's served as a benchmark in our reviews for the Panasonic Z95B and Samsung S95F, beating both TVs in terms of sheer picture performance thanks to its deeply engaging and three-dimensional picture.

Sony's masterful picture processing paired with the QD-OLED panel technology makes this TV a sight to behold, and it's backed up by impressive built-in sound, a solid set of gaming features (HDMI 2.1, VRR and ALLM) and a sleek design.

Our Mini LED TV: TCL C7K

For the times when we're not reviewing a pricey OLED TV, we find ourselves reaching for the TCL C7K.

This surprise hit of 2025 delivers a bright and punchy image when required, but it also has a trick up its sleeve to ensure it impresses during dark scenes too.

TCL's new Halo Control technology hugely mitigates blooming, and black depths are seriously impressive by backlit TV standards.

If you're not interested in OLED or want a TV that offers a stunning picture without a ludicrous price tag, then the C7K is for you.

Our AVR: Marantz Cinema 30

We've swooned over this AVR plenty of times, but we're here to do it once again.

The Marantz Cinema 30 is a handsome piece of home cinema kit, with a premium sculpted metal design, tasteful ambient accent lights, and even a gorgeous remote control; but in the grand scheme of things, none of that really matters, as we care most about sound quality.

The good news is that the Marantz Cinema 30 is a showstopper when it comes to delivering cinematic sound, with a rich, weighty and smooth performance that is guaranteed to immerse even the toughest audiophiles.

It's dynamic, can deliver huge scale sound, and features excellent connectivity; it really is the full package.

Our speaker package: KEF Q Concerto Meta 5.1

The latest addition to our reference home cinema system, the KEF Q Concerto Meta 5.1 was the sleeper hit from this year's Awards testing process.

It won us over almost instantly with its rich, powerful and engaging sound, complete with a subwoofer that handles bass like a champion. It's accurate and agile, yet warm and inviting, which is a surprisingly difficult balance to strike.

We're also huge fans of its dashing good looks, and the fact that it's comprised entirely of standmounting speakers means it should take up slightly less room than an equivalent floorstanding setup.

It's become our new reference system for a reason, and we're already looking forward to the next time we can watch a movie using it.

Our soundbar: Sonos Arc Ultra

Surround sound speaker packages will always be our favourite method of achieving cinematic sound, but we can't deny the convenience of a soundbar. And this soundbar happens to be pretty fantastic.

The Sonos Arc Ultra had massive shoes to fill, but it did so with ease, delivering the punchy, big-scale sound of its predecessor with added richness and height, as well as a whole lot more bass.

With all of the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it can be easy to forget that not every product, be it headphones, accessories or separates, will be discounted at all.

It's also easy to forget that, because of this perennial truth, you don't have to buy hi-fi on a discount. Sometimes, a product sells itself, and that's something which the stunning Rega Planar 3 RS Edition does in some style.

Not only is the Planar 3 RS Edition a What Hi-Fi? Awards winner for 2025, it's also our Product of the Year in our turntables category, essentially making it the best of the best of the best.

It's also the deck we use in our test rooms as our reference model, with keen rivals going up against the mighty Rega to see if they can surpass its sonic excellence. None have succeeded thus far.

Rega-nomics

In terms of pound-per-sound value, the RS Edition is still the best turntable you can get for £1000. That's without discounts or savings, and it's just as well, as Rega doesn't tend to offer big drops (or small drops for that matter) on its healthy stable of record players. The price you see is the one you get, take it or leave it.

It's just as well that the Planar 3 RS Edition sells itself on its sonic performance. At this level, nothing can touch its musicality and energy, and while the natural warmth of vinyl can make certain spinners sound overly soft or lacking in punch, the RS Edition provides real bite and muscle to almost any record you can think of playing.

To quote from our review: "There is a confidence and effortless quality to the way this turntable sounds...the RS Edition locks every detail, every instrument, every vocal into place in an assured way that is admirable and wholly enjoyable".

Compare it with a price-comparable rival, such as the very competent Clearaudio Compass, and you'll realise just how dynamically gifted the Rega is. It's a born entertainer, and it can make its competitors sound flat and hesitant by comparison.

That certain something

What the RS Edition also has is what we might term the 'I want one of those' factor. Rega decks are generally beautifully made, and this one is absolutely no exception.

Constructed with care and cratsmanship, the sleek spinner's plinth is still MDF like the standard model, but wrapped in the High Pressure Laminate usually reserved for more premium models. It's the sort of thing you'd rarely find in a sub-£1000 deck, and it gives the RS Edition a sharp, enticing and modern look.

In fact, logic tends to go somewhat out of the window when it comes to Rega's superb Award-winner. Once you've seen it, used it and heard it, it's hard not to imagine what it would look like in your own front room, flanked by some appropriately talented hi-fi.

The perfect time

The thing is, it's never been more tempting to get hold of a great turntable. The vinyl revival isn't going anywhere soon, with physical media sales continuing to rise as users discover the joy of engaging with their music in the tangible, three-dimensional world.

The Planar 3 RS Edition would make engaging with that revival such a pleasure. Dusting off your old LPs soon loses its shine when you're feeding them to a machine that can't do them justice, but with the Rega, you're in for a sonic treat each and every time.

This may have been the period of big deals and heavy discounts, but if you take your records seriously, you'll happily pay full price to get them sounding their best. I know I would.

The Black Friday deals are continuing as we head into Cyber Monday, and there's literally no cheaper five-star TV than the 50-inch Amazon Omni QLED, which can currently be bought for just £300 at Amazon.

There's no denying that's a serious bargain, but I don't think you should buy it.

That's because the newer 50-inch TCL 50C6KS is even better, and is available for just a little more money – £345 at Amazon.

That additional £45 is well worth paying, in my view.

Unlike the Omni QLED, the TCL 50C6KS is a Mini LED TV with 160 dimming zones. It's much brighter than the Amazon model, and has much better contrast.

The panel also features TCL's new HVA technology, which helps it deliver deep blacks, refined shadow detail, and better halo control than cheaper TVs normally manage.

Like the Omni QLED it supports all current HDR formats (HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision), but its superior hardware means its better able to make use of them, delivering a brighter, more dynamic and more colourful picture.

Bright highlights pop without washing out, and the colour is both punchy and natural – skin tones, skies and foliage all feel balanced, not over-saturated.

On the design side, the TV is mostly plastic, but nothing about it seems cheap when you’re actually watching it. The bezels are reasonably slim and the stand is serviceable.

Performance for gaming is pretty solid: there’s VRR and ALLM support, and the input lag is very low (9.9 ms). It’s only a 60Hz panel, but that's to be expected at this level, and the HDR in games feels satisfying and punchy.

The smart platform is Google TV, which gives you all the usual streaming apps plus voice control. Every major streaming service is supported, including all of the UK catch-up apps.

Surprisingly, the audio is very capable for a TV at this price. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual-X, and it delivers more clarity and detail than you’d expect – dialogue stays clean, and there’s good separation, though the bass isn’t powerful. It’s not going to replace a soundbar, but for everyday viewing it’s very decent.

There are a few drawbacks: motion can look a little soft, and very bright HDR highlights sometimes suffer clipping or colour banding. But this is still, as we said in our review, “one of the year’s biggest bargains”.

It overdelivers in pretty much every area where you’d normally compromise on a budget TV, which is why it's a What Hi-Fi? Awards 2025 winner.

So, yes, the Amazon Omni QLED is great value for £300, but the improvements offered by the TCL C6KS are well worth the extra £45 it currently costs.

Black Friday might officially be over for another year, but the good news is that there are still some excellent deals available to tempt you over the remainder of the weekend, as we head into Cyber Monday.

I’ve been keeping a keen eye on prices of all-in-one systems for the past couple of weeks, and now is a great time to buy. All-in-ones have evolved over the years from vinyl and cassette-playing systems with mini and micro versions, into speakers or single box set-ups with streaming at their heart.

All of the systems below combine convenience, quality and a great discount, and I can vouch for every single one. Let me take you on a quick guided tour…

I love the look of this KEF system, and it also happens to sound ridiculously good. It’s a stunning set-up in multiple ways, not least because of KEF’s choice of finishes and the attractiveness of that Uni-Q driver.

Connectivity options include wi-fi, Bluetooth, HDMI ARC and there’s streaming support for Amazon Music, Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect.

They are classy performers too, capable of a beautifully balanced and musical sound which will keep you entertained wherever you choose to use them. In our KEF LSX II LT review, we said the system offers "punch, focus and a snappy sense of propulsion without a hint of fuss or strain".

Want something a bit more affordable than the KEF? This Elac set-up only offers Bluetooth connectivity from a streaming point of view, but you also get a built-in phono stage for a turntable and an HDMI ARC socket so you can feed the speakers the audio from your TV for an instant upgrade.

In our Elac Debut ConneX DCB41 review, we explain that we found the speakers to be clear, balanced and insightful performers, with a “controlled and even-handed” presentation. We also highlighted their insight and levels of musical organisation and cohesion. In fact, we went so far as to say we could find "no obvious areas of weakness". A great proposition indeed.

An excellent all-in-one that just requires speakers, the Technics was a surprise hit when we reviewed it back in 2022 and it’s a testament to its quality that it remains a popular choice among our review team. It’s a well-conceived, easy-to-use system with a sensible selection of features and a sound that brings plenty of enjoyment to the listener.

In our Technics SA-C600 review, we really enjoyed its “surprisingly authoritative and suitably large-scale” sound, and the way it “organises information into a cohesive and musical whole”. We summed up by saying the Technics “produces musically compelling results regardless of whether we listen to CD, radio or stream hi-res files across our network”.

I was quite excited to spot that this NAD proposition had a cheeky price drop – after all, it was recently crowned Product of the Year at the What Hi-Fi? Awards in our music systems category. In our NAD C 3050 with MDC2 BluOS-D Module review, we described it as “a highly appealing just-add-speakers stereo solution”, highlighting its “midrange clarity and fluidity” and the fact it “it sounds muscular, delivering lows with a richness and punch that’s enjoyable.”

You’re basically looking at a 100W per channel amplifier with the excellent BluOS streaming platform baked in, which gives you access to a plethora of music streaming platforms. You’ve also got a quality phono stage, two-way Bluetooth connectivity and a headphone socket to take advantage of. Oh, and the NAD also happens to boast excellent build quality and charming retro looks – what’s not to like?

I suspect this is your last chance to get this deal, as this is an older model that has now been officially discontinued, and most retailers have now sold out.

When the Hisense U8N first landed last year, its £1800 price tag pitched it deep into OLED territory. Now that it's available for under £800, it suddenly becomes a very different – and far more compelling – proposition.

Design and build feel like a serious step up from previous Hisense sets. The stand is solid and stable – heavy enough that shifting the TV demands two people – and the slimmer speaker grille leaves ample room underneath for a soundbar.

The 4K 65-inch panel uses Mini LED backlighting and Quantum Dot tech, and the TV supports all four of the current HDR formats: HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

Gaming specs are great, too, with support for 4K/120Hz (and 4K/144Hz if you've got a powerful PC), VRR, ALLM and gaming in Dolby Vision. There are just two HDMI 2.1 sockets, though.

Picture-wise, once you tweak the settings, the U8N is a really good peformer. Blacks aren’t quite OLED-deep, but shadows retain detail, and bright scenes stay controlled rather than blown out.

In dark film scenes, contrast and shadow detail are rich; in bright sunlit HDR scenes the TV’s high peak brightness makes highlights pop. Upscaling older 1080p or lower-res content also impresses – grain, texture and shadow detail remain intact, preserving older films’ character.

Sound is a bit of a weak spot – the built-in 2.1.2 setup is serviceable at modest volumes, but strained when pushed harder – but hopefully this super-low price leaves space in your budget for a soundbar.

In short, while the Hisense U8N once looked like a not-great choice alongside similarly priced OLED sets, it looks like exceptional value with this super-cheap Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal.

Black Friday is now firmly in the rearview mirror, but Cyber Monday is dead ahead, and most of the best TV deals are still available.

In fact, I just found a sneaky way to get my favourite small OLED – the 42-inch LG C5 – for just £727 at AO.com.

The previous best price was £740 at Hughes, and the TV is still £759 at Amazon, so this is a great deal. And remember, this is a TV that launched at a price of £1400!

Getting this price means signing up for an AO.com membership, which costs £40, but I've accounted for that in the £727 price I've quoted.

How it works is you sign up for the membership for £40, then you can buy the TV for just £687 – and get free delivery thrown in.

A small amount of effort then, but well worth it for the best 42-inch TV that money can buy.

The LG C5 is clearly the best 42-inch TV currently available – and yes, I say that as someone who’s tested many.

The hallmark OLED magic is all here: pixel-level contrast, truly inky blacks, and that pixel-level contrast control that never fails to draw you into a film or game.

With a little tweaking – we recommend Filmmaker Mode with judder reduction off and tone mapping on – the picture is beautifully balanced. Rich but natural skin tones, bright highlights when called for, and none of that over-the-top HDR exaggeration.

Scenes pop with impressive depth, colours feel cinematic rather than overcooked, and even fast action stays entirely smooth, with no ghosting or blur.

On the smart TV front, the C5 gets close to top marks. The latest webOS has too many adverts, but it also houses a full complement of properly nativised streaming apps, including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and even BBC iPlayer, ITVX and many more besides.

But where the C5 really shines, at least for me, is gaming. All four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K/120Hz gaming (4K/144Hz if you have a powerful enough PC), with VRR, ALLM and Dolby Vision Game Mode support.

That low input lag and high refresh rate make it so responsive that many people buy the LG C5 as a large gaming monitor rather than a traditional TV, and I'm all for that.

No TV is perfect, and the 42-inch C5 has some small flaws.

Colour volume takes a slight hit in very dark scenes; there are moments when low-light content feels a bit flatter than I’d like; and the built-in speakers are pretty weak.

But the picture is still excellent overall, and no TV sounds great, so these flaws are easy to accept – particularly at this price. Do try to add a soundbar to improve the audio, though.

In short, the C5 isn’t flawless, but it comes as close as any 42-inch OLED has to date. For me, it’s hands-down the best compact premium TV you can buy: cinematic when you watch movies, super-responsive when you play games, and compact enough for a second room or smaller lounge.

I've been recommending TVs to eager Black Friday and Cyber Monday buyers for four days straight, and it's come to my attention that I've been mostly steering people towards OLED sets.

That's no great surprise, as we find that the panel technology delivers the most cinematic performance in our experience. We've said it before, but when you experience OLED black levels and contrast, it's near impossible to go back.

That being said, it's come to my attention that OLED isn't everyone's cup of tea, and I think that's fair enough. As someone who's constantly surrounded by premium OLEDs, it's easy to lose sight of the other options, but I completely realise that while I'll always opt for an OLED TV where possible, not everyone feels the same, and for good reasons too.

First and foremost, OLED TVs are expensive. Even hundreds of pounds worth of Black Friday savings can't drag the Sony Bravia 8 II's price below £1500, and the LG C5 sits north of £1000 in its 65-inch size, even with discounts applied.

Furthermore, there is the issue of brightness, as OLED has been playing catch-up with Mini LED in this regard for a few years now. The playing field is beginning to level with QD-OLED and Primary RGB Tandem OLED hitting their respective strides, but these panels are only featured in premium sets.

So, if you want a TV that balances convincing black levels and punchy brightness, and features a price tag that's under four figures, then OLED is, frankly speaking, out of the question.

Fear not, as I've been wracking my brains as to what the best alternative could be, and I was reminded of a TV that I've been using in our dedicated AV testing room just over a week ago.

It's the Award-winning 65-inch TCL C7K, a TV that I admittedly had some reservations about.

I wasn't a huge fan of the C855K, and that was the last TCL TV I'd come face-to-face with in our testing facility, so unboxing and setting up the C7K as a reference model for an upcoming review made me slightly anxious.

Thankfully, my nerves were quickly dispelled when this TV jumped into action. It's a fantastic looking TV across the board, with punchy highlights, impressively balanced colours and, most impressively, really convincing black levels.

Now I'm sure an OLED would show it up in a side-by-side test, but considering the price and capabilities of this TV, I was really impressed with how dark blacks came across on this TV.

Better still, dark scenes weren't compromised with obvious patches of blooming, which added to the experience and made them look even more convincing.

It's really hard for a backlit TV to excel in doing this, and we've seen many Mini LED TVs falter at this hurdle. However, the TCL C7K refuses to do so.

The best news about all of this is that the 65-inch model is currently discounted for Black Friday, meaning you can pick it up for just £749 at Currys, down from £899.

TCL is known for its budget TVs, but that doesn't mean it cuts back on features. This TV sports a staggering 1008 dimming zones and features a claimed peak brightness of 2800 nits.

Paired with a 4K/144Hz panel, two HDMI 2.1 sockets that support high-performance gaming with VRR and ALLM, a sound system tuned by none other than Bang & Olufsen, and support for both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+, this TV begins to look more premium than its price suggests.

However, the real magic comes with TCL's new Halo Control system, which mitigates the drawbacks of the Mini LED backlight for more precise blacks. I think this is the real ace up TCL's sleeve, as it works a treat on the C7K.

This plays a crucial role in the reduction of blooming, which makes dark scenes look much more immersive. Black depths on this TV are shockingly impressive for a backlit model, especially at this price, meaning you can get an experience that's not a million miles off OLED for a much lower price.

The TCL remains my top pick for a 65-inch TV under £1000 this Black Friday, and it will certainly appeal to anyone looking to avoid OLED, especially with it being priced at just £749 at Currys.

I'm a huge advocate for the 4K Blu-ray format, hence why I've been listing the gains of physical media to anyone who will listen for the last three years.

Higher fidelity audio, no lagging or buffering and, most importantly, a much more consistent and sharper image are among the main benefits, and any home cinema enthusiast who's pulled the trigger on starting a 4K Blu-ray collection will echo my sentiment.

Investing in a 4K media library does, of course, require a quality disc player, and I'm recommending the one that I own and use frequently for the physical media-curious this Black Friday.

The Sony UBP-X700 is my weapon of choice when it comes to spinning high-resolution discs, and it's served me well ever since I welcomed it into my home around two years ago.

We bestowed this player with a five-star review back in 2018, which may sound like a long time ago, but we need to remember that the 4K Blu-ray player market hasn't seen much movement in years.

In fact, a slightly tweaked version called the UBP-X700/K currently features on Sony's disc player lineup; it assures us that it's basically the same player without network features. It's the first "new" player that the company has launched in over five years, which should tell you how stagnant the scene is for 4K Blu-ray players.

Back in 2018, the UBP-X700 launched at £249, but Amazon has it priced at just £225 during the Black Friday sales; not a huge discount, granted, but here me out on this discount...

At £225, the UBP-X700 is currently cheaper than a year of Netflix's 4K subscription tier, and frankly, I would pick this disc player over Netflix any day of the week.

Netflix upped the price of its Premium tier in the UK to £18.99/month in February of this year. That option is the only way to stream in 4K HDR from Netflix, meaning you'll have to settle for 1080p if you opt for one of the "standard" plans; we also wouldn't be surprised if this price increases again in the near future.

Therefore, a year of Netflix Premium will run you approximately £228, which is slightly more than the cost of this player.

There are, admittedly, pros and cons to this comparison. You will need to factor in the cost of 4K Blu-ray discs, and you don't have the same range of content at your fingertips as Netflix offers.

Netflix has had a run of cancelling shows and offloading content recently, and I've noticed that a fair amount of its third-party content doesn't even stream in 4K HDR; either defaulting to 4K SDR or, in some cases, HD.

And to soften the blow regarding the price of 4K Blu-ray discs, I've compiled a few tempting 4K Blu-ray offers from my personal collection and our AV testing library to kick start your collection:

Benefits of physical media include the fact that you won't have to rely on an internet connection to play your content, meaning you won't notice a dip in picture quality if your wi-fi is struggling.

Furthermore, when you own a 4K disc, you own it for life; unlike streaming services, in which content is frequently removed or rotated to a whole other service.

The picture and sound benefits also speak for themselves. Being someone who spends a lot of their time staring at screens and switching between 4K discs and streaming, I've become particularly sensitive to the blocky gradation that's often present on streaming services.

I've also watched my fair share of Netflix and 4K Blu-ray content (using this exact Blu-ray player) on my Sony A80L OLED TV, and can vouch that the UBP-X700 delivers a sharper image with better contrast, and sound is richer and more cinematic too.

It's also worth mentioning that I am aware of reports relating to this player occasionally sticking and freezing when playing 4K discs; however, this has happened only twice in my time using this from memory.

For £225 at Amazon, I think this plucky 4K player is a great option for anyone looking to leave streaming behind this Black Friday.

If you're looking for retro charm and sonic excellence this Cyber Monday, then you could do significantly worse than this excellent deal on a 2025 What Hi-Fi? Award-winner.

In fact, the NAD C 3050 with MDC2 BluOS-D streaming module earned a Product of the Year Award gong in the music systems category, positioning it as the best of the best.

And it just gets even better on Cyber Monday. There's currently a £200 saving to be had with the all-in-one priced at £1499 at Sevenoaks. It's one to consider before the price jumps back up.

As a 100W per channel amplifier, the NAD C 3050 is a fine performer across all connections, with a good moving magnet phono stage and a very capable DAC module.

But it's the addition of the MDC2-BluOS-D’s streaming smarts that change everything, propelling the NAD to class-leading status among streaming systems.

The C 3050 can stream music files from your home network, play internet radio or access streaming services through wired or wireless means, with support for UPnP, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Amazon Music Ultra HD and Deezer.

It's worth noting that it doesn’t play DSD files, and the PCM files it does play are limited to a maximum of 24-bit/192kHz, but we doubt this will be a deal-clincher for most.

There's also two-way Bluetooth of the aptX variety, a front panel-mounted 6.3mm headphone output, and an HDMI eARC input for you to hook up a TV.

And, however you choose to listen, the NAD C 3050 sounds great.

As we said in our NAD C 3050 review: "It has the midrange clarity and fluidity to shine with a vocal-based group such as The Unthanks. Detail levels are good, but it's the organic way in which the C 3050 arranges all that detail that draws us into the music.

It captures the texture and tone of the sisters’ voices superbly and so communicates the heartfelt passion in the title track, Mount The Air, better than most alternatives we’ve heard."

If you want one box to take care of all your audio needs, the NAD is an extremely neat and characterful just-add-speakers streaming system. And at £1499 at Sevenoaks, it's an easy recommendation.

Black Friday is over for another year, and it's time for Cyber Monday to take over the reins as people try to pick up a last-minute bargain before prices start creeping back up.

I've been keeping an eye on two pairs of flagship wireless headphones from Bose and Sony, both of which are new this year and both of which have dipped in price over the past few days.

Historically, the top pairs of ANC over-ears from both of these brands have been pretty close in terms of both performance and price, but this year, I think your choice is a bit more straightforward.

This year, it’s between the Sony WH-1000XM6, which I use daily and have been using ever since their launch back in May this year and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), which launched in October.

Both are flagship pairs of wireless headphones, but I can only recommend one of these deals.

The Sonys normally cost £399, but I’m pleased to report they are currently sitting at their lowest price ever of £299 at Amazon.

The Bose come in at £450, and they are currently available for £399 at Amazon. Not a bad price, but the Sonys are cheaper, so they win this particular battle, and that’s before we’ve even touched upon the way these two pairs of ANC over-ears perform.

In terms of design, it’s a close-run thing. Both pairs feel comfortable on your head and are suited to long periods of use – perfect for long commutes or the occasional long-haul flight. Both pairs fold away completely, so you can store them in a bag easily.

When you want to cut out external noise, the Bose just about edge it, but I am talking by the finest of margins. The Sonys still remove background grumbles effortlessly and do so with less of a heavy hand than the Bose.

The way the Bose go about their ANC business is a bit more brutal, which not everyone enjoys. And I think Sony’s call quality is the best in the business, capable of virtually erasing all wind noise from your conversations.

But it’s in the sound quality stakes where the gap is biggest. The Bose just can’t match the detail, clarity and dynamics of the WH-1000XM6. I think the difference is obvious and one you can't ignore, especially when you consider the price difference.

We couldn’t make it any clearer than our Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) review, which says, “Musically, they’re (Sony XM6) what we can confidently call ‘next level’”.

Even though it’s great to see both flagship pairs discounted, my money would go straight to the Sony WH-1000XM6. With £100 off at Amazon, and still £100 cheaper than the Bose, to me, this decision is the biggest Cyber Monday no-brainer I’ve seen so far.

Buying a budget TV is hard enough – buying a 43-inch budget TV is a bit of a nightmare.

It's no surprise that a lot of manufacturers lack effort when it comes to producing cheaper TVs, but the 43-inch size is especially badly neglected.

Nevertheless, 43 inches might be the perfect size for you.

I have good news, then – because we have tested the two most popular 43-inch TVs in town: the Samsung U8000F and TCL P7K.

Both have been discounted since launch: the Samsung U8000F is down to £239 at Amazon, while the TCL P7K has dropped a little less, to £249 at Richer Sounds.

So which one should you buy? I've compared them side-by-side in order to answer that very question.

Prefer to get straight to the point? No problem: while I prefer the TCL P7K overall, thanks to its more zingy performance, the small price difference would be enough for me to buy the Samsung instead.

Samsung U8000F

The 43-inch Samsung U8000F is a surprisingly capable 4K TV for the price – especially now it's been discounted to just £239 at Amazon.

It has a 4K LCD panel with HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ support, and a broadly competent feature set that includes the app-packed Tizen smart platform, plus VRR and ALLM for gaming.

Design-wise, it’s trim and clean enough. The matte-black bezel and slim front give it an understated, modern look, even if the back is quite chunky and the little clip-on feet feel a bit cheap.

When it comes to picture, this is where the U8000F shines for what it is. Colours stay consistent across different presets – nothing feels oversaturated or washed out – and motion handling is notably strong.

In side-by-side tests with the TCL P7K, it clearly handles motion better: panning shots, action and general motion remain sharp and judder-free, especially when you tweak the judder-reduction settings and turn off noise-reduction.

That said, it’s not perfect. Without Quantum Dot or local dimming, colours, contrast and depth sometimes suffer.

Static scenes don’t have quite the same “pop” or three-dimensional feel you see on more advanced sets, and with darker content, you may notice backlight clouding or slight “jetting” from the bottom corners.

Push the contrast enhancer, and HDR highlights can clip; leave it off, and scenes sometimes look a bit dull.

Audio is modest but more than acceptable at this price: the 20 W stereo speakers – helped by Samsung’s OTS Lite spatial processing – place effects convincingly across the screen, with clear dialogue and a decent stereo spread. It won’t knock your socks off, but it’s balanced, clean, and rarely distorts.

All told, the U8000F is “a mostly impressive all-rounder.” It isn’t going to rival premium TVs, but for everyday streaming, light gaming and general living-room viewing, it punches way above what you’d expect.

The TCL P7K is the more exciting performer, but the Samsung is more consistent and controlled. It's a close call over which one is outright best, so the Samsung's slightly lower price swings the result in its favour.

TCL P7K

The 43-inch TCL 43P7K might cost a little more than the Samsung – currently £249 at Richer Sounds – but it offers a strikingly different package that leans into brightness, colour and feature richness.

Starting with the panel: this one uses Quantum Dot technology, which delivers noticeably more vibrant and saturated colours than the U8000F. The result is a picture that feels lively and vivid, especially in well-lit rooms or for HDR content.

Brightness overall is a real strong point. Both SDR and HDR content benefit from a screen that’s consistently brighter than most budget TVs – so HDR highlights pop nicely, and even SDR feels more dynamic than usual.

For motion, the P7K does a respectable job, too – though it's not at the level of the Samsung here. Sharpness and detail remain decent with fast-moving sports and action sequences, but the Samsung is cleaner and smoother.

On the other hand, the P7K supports more HDR formats than the Samsung, including Dolby Vision alongside HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG – so you’re better covered for HDR content from streaming apps, 4K Blu-rays and even Xbox games.

There are negatives, though. Black levels and contrast, while decent for the price, obviously can’t compete with TVs that have local dimming – and during dark scenes, you might spot “jets” of light creeping into the lower corners.

The viewing angles are fairly limited, too, and TCL’s upscaling and lower-res performance leave something to be desired, particularly with older content. Dynamic contrast, while often useful, sometimes causes flickering in dark scenes.

Sound is also basic. The 2 x 10 W stereo speakers are fine for speech and light viewing, but weak on bass and punch. Big action films or music-heavy content may feel a bit thin. The Samsung isn't much better here, but it is slightly so.

In short, the 43P7K is a surprisingly strong performer for its price – bright, colourful, feature-rich, and more HDR-ready than the U8000F.

If you prioritise vivid visuals and HDR flexibility (or just like a brighter display for casual watching), it’s very appealing.

Part of the fun of wading through Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals is that not only can you find some great savings on individual products, but when you start combining some of the deals, there’s also the potential to create some amazing systems with big money off.

And that’s exactly what I’ve done with the trio of products that you see below.

Of course, you need to bear in mind the process of system matching, i.e. you want the different components all pulling in the same sonic direction, but that's where our buying advice comes into its own and why this system makes so much sense...

While I’ve still got plenty of time for CDs, for this particular set-up I’ve gone with a streamer as my source. The Naim ND5 XS 2 might be approaching the end of its life (it was first reviewed back in 2019, after all), but this is no reason to stay clear – quite the opposite in fact!

It’s a great option for anyone looking to step up from a budget model to a more refined and sophisticated performer, and the fact that it’s available with £1000 off at Peter Tyson makes it an appealing prospect if you’re fishing in those waters.

It’s fair to say we were and still are huge fans. In our five-star Naim ND5 XS 2 review, we said, “There is nothing sonically for which we can fault its performance.” We also said it has “the ability to dig deep into bass frequencies with ease, tempering that with rich and insightful mids and treble”.

For optimal system synergy, we’ve gone for a stablemate of the ND5 XS 2, which is also enjoying a lovely Black Friday discount of £1000 over at Peter Tyson.

The Naim Nait XS 3 stereo amplifier is an absolute classic when it comes to hi-fi kit, and we rate it so highly that it’s still being used in our test rooms to put price-comparable products through their paces.

It sounds enthusiastic, entertaining, and in our Nait XS 3 review, we also praised its organisational skills, saying, “Detail resolution is good, but it’s the amplifier’s ability to assemble all that information into a cohesive whole that really impresses".

Now, technically speaking, the speakers I’m suggesting you use in this system aren’t discounted for Black Friday, but the savings being made on the electronics cover the cost of these beauties.

And the truth is that if you want to get the best sound possible from this Naim pairing, I wouldn’t go for just any pair of speakers in the Black Friday sales. You want a pair that’s going to help bring the best out of the two Naims, and the KEF R3 Meta will do just that (another option would be the Epos ES-7N).

In our KEF R3 Meta review, we said, “We haven’t come across many stereo speakers at this price point in recent years that are so accomplished in all the ‘hi-fi’ ways and fun to listen to in the same breath.”

Add the fact that they look stunning and are impeccably made, and you have a good-looking system that is guaranteed to give you years of enjoyment. If you already have stands, that’s great, or alternatively, KEF does matching stands, the S3 (£649), which I’ve seen discounted to £399 when you buy the speakers.

I've been reviewing TVs for over 18 years, and the Bravia 8 II is quite simply the best I've ever tested.

It uses the latest and brightest QD-OLED panel from Samsung, and combines that with the latest version of Sony's legendary picture processing to produce a stunning yet cinematically accurate picture.

It's the best-sounding TV you can buy right now, too.

I've tested both versions of the Bravia 8 II, and I've compared them side-by-side with the Samsung S95F, LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B – plus the Sony A95L I use at home – and it's better than all of them.

Why I love the Bravia 8 II

The Bravia 8 II is the follow-up to the excellent A95L – the very TV I rely on at home.

That alone probably tells you how much I love the A95L, but after spending time reviewing the Bravia 8 II side-by-side with it, I have to admit my own setup suddenly feels a touch less special.

Sony’s newer QD-OLED panel pushes brightness noticeably further than the previous generation. That extra luminance doesn’t just make highlights punchier; it also deepens contrast and expands colour volume in a way that immediately stands out.

This is a wonderfully vivid TV that absolutely sings with colourful films – the Spider-Verse series is a perfect example – yet it remains beautifully restrained when it needs to be, delivering that signature Sony balance and cinematic naturalism.

Sharpness is another area where the Bravia 8 II quietly excels. Sony’s AI-based processing selectively refines fine details, but you never catch it working – you just see a picture that looks exceptionally clean, precise and almost sculpted.

Low-light performance is superb, too. Sony has clearly put effort into dark gradation, resulting in rich, true OLED blacks supported by impressively nuanced shadow detail.

What I appreciate most is how little tweaking is required. As I mentioned in my full review:

"For a supremely authentic picture, simply pick Dolby Vision Dark for Dolby Vision content or Professional for everything else.

"Should you want a little more pop to proceedings, either because you’re watching in a room with ambient light or simply because you enjoy an even more thrilling delivery, simply switch to Dolby Vision Bright or the Cinema mode."

Sound quality is another of the Bravia 8 II’s surprises. Its Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology delivers clarity and directness, but also a level of spaciousness that's rare from a TV.

I still advise pairing it with a proper sound system (the Sonos Arc Ultra is a fantastic entry point for a TV this good), but if you insist on using built-in speakers, this is yet another advantage the Sony holds over options such as the LG G5, Samsung’s S95F, and even the Panasonic Z95B.

My only gripe is connectivity. You get two HDMI 2.1 ports (plus two standard HDMIs), and one of those 2.1 inputs doubles as the eARC port. LG and Samsung both offer four HDMI 2.1 sockets on their comparable models.

For my setup – a PS5, an Xbox Series X and a Dolby Atmos sound system – that limitation is mildly annoying. But if you’re only using one or two of those devices, it’s unlikely to matter much.

It's all down to lesser-known retailer Hughes, which is offering blanket discounts across its store, based on how much you spend:

Hughes was already matching the lowest prices on most versions of the LG C5, so these codes take even more money off, resulting in the very lowest prices you can find anywhere in the UK right now.

And in case you're wondering, yes, Hughes does offer free delivery. It's also got an excellent 4.6 rating on Trustpilot, with the summary stating that "Reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company".

Cambridge Audio has been dropping some tempting Black Friday hi-fi deals on many of its hi-fi products this week, and one that caught my eye is this £200 saving on the CXA81 MkII stereo amplifier.

This is one of the brand's newest additions, and replaces two superb five-star, former Award-winning amplifiers. The CXA81 MkII is now yours for £799 at Richer Sounds and Cambridge Audio UK – which is quite a savvy saving.

But wait – is there a better deal out there for a better amplifier? Yes, in fact, there is another stereo amplifier that is also enjoying a Black Friday deal and what's more, it's going for the same price as the Cambridge. This would be the former What Hi-Fi? Award-winning Arcam A15, which is currently £799 at Peter Tyson, representing a considerable £300 saving overall.

We tested the Arcam A15 against the Cambridge CXA81 MkII during our review, and concluded that while the Cambridge offered a bold, spacious and authoritative sound – which was much more detailed, cleaner and bigger than its own predecessors – it ultimately didn't quite have the rhythmic drive and dynamic subtlety to match the five-star Arcam A15.

In our four-star Cambridge CXA81 MkII review, we said the Award-winning Arcam A15's "clearly more musically cohesive and organised delivery is more convincingly able to carry the momentum and pace-changes of the piece. While the Arcam is a little lighter in the bass than the Cambridge, it is more agile down there, too... the A15 is that bit more expressive and organised in delivering the intricate instrumentation, and is ultimately more interesting to listen to."

On its own, the CXA81 MkII is pleasing to listen to. Its sense of spaciousness, the refined and clean detail, large-scale dynamics and openness offer plenty to enjoy. When compared with its price rival, however, there's only one clear winner.

Our original comparison was when the Cambridge cost £999 and the A15 was £1099 at full price, and now that they're both available at the same £799 price – our verdict remains the same.

Sony's 4K laser projectors are a double-edged sword; on one hand, we love the deeply cinematic images they tend to produce, but on the other hand, they are flipping expensive pieces of kit.

Even so, we think they are worth the money if your pockets are deep enough, and with this Black Friday saving your pockets needn't be quite as deep as expected.

Richer Sounds currently has the Award-winning Bravia Projector 8 (also known as the VPL-XW6100ES) down to £11,999, which is a £4000 saving from the price we reviewed it at.

Is that still gut-wrenchingly expensive? Of course it is, but if scoring a saving on a pricey projector is your goal this Black Friday, then this is the deal for you.

Just be aware that you'll need to have a Richer Sounds membership to claim this deal; however, that sign-up process is free and painless, so don't be discouraged if you have your heart set on the stunning Bravia Projector 8.

We recently gave the Sony Bravia Projector 8 a What Hi-Fi? Award for being a worthy successor to the previous Award-winning VPL-XW7000ES, delivering the ultimate home cinema performance.

It boasts exceptional contrast, sharp details, and improved HDMI 2.1 specification, as well as being a formidable and more affordable step-down alternative to the Sony Bravia Projector 9.

And what you get for your money is a blend of the picture pedigree of its predecessor alongside a handful of new impressive features and enhancements derived from its Bravia TV cousins.

More compact and lighter than its main competitors, such as the JVC DLA-NZ800, it weighs in at just 14kg (as opposed to JVC's 23kg) and measures up at 21 x 46 x 52cm.

And with it comes XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR Triluminous Pro, XR Clear Image and Motionflow, expanding colour volume and enhancing accuracy of the laser output.

Plus, it boasts two HDMI 2.1 sockets with support of 4K/120Hz signals with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which will appease PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and gaming PC owners who want to game on the big screen. Sony also claims an input lag of 12ms with 4K/120Hz sources.

For its pictures, our expert testers had high praise to give, stating that it "delivers excellent black levels by projector standards" as well as praising the detail levels, colour rendition and crisp and detailed resolution.

All-in-all, Sony has delivered yet another blockbuster projector worthy of your home cinema. And while it isn't cheap, a £4000 saving at Richer Sounds will surely soften the blow, as will the crisp picture with rich colours and supreme contrast you'll get to enjoy.

In the midst of all this Black Friday deals madness, one of my colleagues asked for help regarding a vinyl system. A friend wanted a compact starter turntable system for his daughter, one that played records and could handle music streaming. Could I recommend something suitable?

Why yes, I could. The answer is simply: buy the Ruark MR1 Mk3 powered speakers and the Rega Planar 1 turntable.

The five-star Ruark MR1 Mk3 speakers launched earlier this year and, along with their more powerful, dynamic and detailed sound, they came equipped with one crucial element for the first time: a phono stage. And it was a stonkingly good one, too. Add in the five-star Rega Planar 1 directly, and you've got quite the potent combination that looks good, sounds good, doesn't take up much space and is a genuine alternative to traditional hi-fi separates.

We have tested many other powered or active speakers (those with amplification inside them) that also sport a built-in phono stage, but we tend to find these of poor or middling quality, and always end up recommending an external phono stage where possible.

But the MR1 Mk3's moving magnet phono stage is of such good quality, I would have no problem using these Bluetooth-toting speakers for turntable use solely. During our review, we said that with a turntable plugged into the Ruark, "records sound clear, well-defined, and confident. Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged set comes through with plenty of punch and dynamism, and ample space between the guitars and bass, while Kurt Cobain’s voice is full of deeper, gritty detail."

The presentation is similar, bar the expected drop in resolution, when streaming playlists over Bluetooth, and the MR1 is a lovely system to use as well.

The Rega Planar 1 is a superb deck, and delivers the kind of quality you wouldn't expect from an "entry-level" turntable. There is punch and dexterity when handling complex rhythms, expressive dynamics, a great amount of detail and nuance, and a solidity that speaks to Rega's decades-long turntable expertise.

In our review, we said that "this is the kind of player that could feasibly be the last of your system’s components you’d feel necessary to upgrade."

No, there isn't a Black Friday deal currently on either the Rega or the Ruark: there never is any deal on any product from these two brands, really. Both are fairly small but mighty British brands that hail from Southend-on-Sea in Essex, and they have a reputation for making superb-sounding, high-quality products that are of great value at their full price to begin with.

But I wouldn't let that deter you. I've lived with the older Ruark MR1 Mk2 and a Rega Planar turntable myself, and know just how potent and wonderful this combination can be. And I know they both can fit neatly onto a (level) cabinet or desk, too, so you won't have to get any special stands or racks to accommodate them.

In total, this Ruark/Rega system will cost you £728 – that may not sound cheap, but the quality on offer here, combined with genuine style and convenience, cannot be overstated. You could live with this combination for years before the thought of upgrading would ever enter your mind.

And you don't have to plumb extra for any cables or stands, either. The plug-and-play Planar 1 comes with phono cables attached that you can plug straight into the Ruark MR1 Mk3's phono inputs – the whole package is easy to set up in mere minutes.

So, if you're a modern vinyl fan who simply doesn't have the space, the funds or the inclination to go the full separates route, but still wants a great-quality vinyl system, don't worry. You don't have to scroll through the Black Friday deals, nor wait for some big discount to come around, or splash out on multiple boxes and cables.

You can just buy these two products from two hi-fi brands with serious hi-fi pedigree behind them, and nab yourself a ridiculously good-sounding turntable system – that's also compact and stylish – without spending silly money. This Rega/Ruark combination is a dream vinyl set-up – even I'm jealous of the person who ends up with this lovely duo.

I've reviewed enough TVs to appreciate a good remote. Clicky buttons are a must, a backlight will always win me over, and any additional features will score bonus points in my books.

With that in mind, I'd like to direct you towards a lesser-known Amazon Fire TV accessory that ticks all of the boxes I mention above. It's called the Fire TV Alexa Voice Remote Pro, and it's compatible with Amazon's full range of current Fire TV streaming devices, including the Award-winning Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

This isn't one of those life-changing Black Friday purchases by any means, but this affordable accessory, which is currently down from £35 to £20 at Amazon, brings a handful of creature comforts and AV functionality to your Fire TV experience that I think makes it worth splashing out for.

So what improvements does the Alexa Voice Remote Pro actually bring? First of all, the Pro remote is a bit larger; it features slightly squared-off edges, and the plastic feels higher quality, resulting in a more premium construction and feeling in the hand.

Personally, my favourite feature of the Pro remote is its backlit buttons, which make operating any Fire TV device in a dark home cinema room a breeze and have subsequently made me resent the Apple TV 4K and Chromecast with Google TV remotes for not having backlit buttons.

Speaking of buttons, you get the same Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music shortcuts as on the standard remote, but this time they're accompanied by two programmable buttons for personalised app shortcuts, which you can designate to your most used apps.

You also get live channel buttons and a Bluetooth headphone button for quickly accessing the connected audio devices menu without having to exit out to the home page and navigate to the settings menu.

Best of all, you get a "find my remote" feature, which means that when it inevitably slides between the couch cushions, you won't need to tear your living room apart to find it.

Instead, just ask Alexa to find your remote, and it will play a sound to help you locate it. Speaking of Alexa, you also get a microphone on the remote to interact with the voice assistant, much like on the original remote.

If you've rolled your eyes at the thought of paying for an additional remote for your Fire TV Stick, then I don't blame you. However, the Alexa Voice Remote Pro is still (in my mind) the best accessory you can buy for your Fire TV, especially while it's this cheap.

While searching for a good Black Friday hi-fi deal can be tricky, this year, however, I found a truly great one.

One of the most exciting hi-fi deals – and my personal favourite – has been this massive £250 discount on the five-star Arcam A5, bringing the original £749 price down to just £499 at Richer Sounds. That's an astounding price for this integrated amp.

The Arcam A5 is a brilliant stereo amplifier that rejuvenated the Arcam brand two years ago, and it was bestowed with a What Hi-Fi? Award not long after we reviewed it. Its modern, minimal look with the yellow accents and its terrific sonic performance won us over, and I think it's one of the best amplifiers for under £1000 we've tested in the last few years.

Best Arcam A5 stereo amplifier deal

We highly recommend this deal, but it did prompt the question: what sources and speakers would go well with the Arcam A5 amp? We found the A5 to be pretty unfussy with partnering when we tested it, so I went in search of a CD player, a turntable, a streamer and some speakers that would do justice to the A5's performance.

And guess what? I ended up with a fantastic hi-fi system that even I'd be tempted to buy.

All three sources I've chosen are also enjoying a Black Friday deal, which makes this system an even better value proposition, while the speakers are a pair we've been raving about all year – but they don't have any reductions in their price. But it doesn't matter: these standmounts are so good and are such a great fit with the Arcam, that it would be wrong to recommend anything else.

Ultimately, while it's great to find superb hi-fi separates on a great discount, it's even better to ensure you have the right products that match each other sonically and deliver the best performance overall.

Sound the Black Friday klaxon, a home cinema deal has cropped up that's stopped us dead in our tracks. We've been tracking the price of the Samsung HW-Q990F since it scored top marks in our home cinema testing facility, but we've never seen it drop quite this low before.

We originally reviewed it at £1699, but this showstopping deal at Hughes drops the price to £829, and then there's a further £60 off with code HUGBF60, which drops the overall price to a staggeringly low £769.

The Sony Bravia 8 was quite the sensation when it launched last year, receiving five stars in our review and the coveted TV Product of the Year at the What Hi-Fi? Awards.

One year on and its successor, the Sony Bravia 8 II, is now out in the wild and receiving similar acclaim, meaning the original Bravia 8 has seen some drastic discounts.

The 55-inch Bravia 8 is currently part of the Black Friday sales, dropping to £1259 at Amazon. That's down from its previous price of £1398, and a good £950 off its £2199 launch price.

However, a new, budget version of this TV, known as the Bravia 8A, was released just days ago – and is cheaper at £1169.

The Bravia 8A is missing two minor features from the original Bravia: the Bravia 8A comes with a non-backlit version of the Bravia 8's remote, and includes 5 credits and 12 months of streaming for Sony Pictures Core, rather than the 12 credits and 24 months offered with the Bravia 8.

If you can live without these features, the Bravia 8A is otherwise identical – and £90 cheaper.

Minus the backlit remote and the longer Sony Pictures Core offer, our review of the Sony Bravia 8 applies to the 8A model as well.

An Award-winning TV, the Sony Bravia 8A offers an incredibly bright and sharp image along with best-in-class motion handling.

Tested with Blade Runner 2049, our review said: "Watching Ryan Gosling’s character fly into a dusty protein farm, motion handling is beautiful and we don’t see any artefacts as his car zooms over the landscape and a recon drone examines the scene. Dark areas retain oodles of detail, with every crinkle in the sofa in Dave Bautista's home being apparent."

The Google TV OS offers a full suite of apps, including international heavy hitters such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video as well as terrestrial favourites BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

As you'd expect from the makers of the PlayStation, gaming support is solid, with two of the four HDMI inputs supporting 4K/120Hz signals as well as VRR and ALLM.

HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG are all supported, as well as an IMAX Enhanced picture mode, though cinephiles will note that HDR10+ is missing.

Both TVs are a great choice – but for the lowest price possible, the Sony Bravia 8A, priced at £1169 at Amazon, is the best choice for the deal-hunters out there.

Before the start of Black Friday, I prepared my friends – most of whom were asking for the best wireless headphones to buy this Black Friday – to be ready for a deal on the Sony WH-1000XM4. As these headphones are now over five years old, yet still remarkably talented, I had huge expectations for a massive Black Friday discount.

Alas, there hasn't really been a deal worth shouting about. Sure, the XM4 wireless headphones are down to £178 at Amazon, which is a nice saving, but I was expecting more.

With the official Black Friday sales now being well established, I began to lose hope. It looked like none of Sony's five-star flagship headphone series would drop to a price that I could heartily recommend to my friends. As I mentioned in my original feature, we're a group of mid-20s living in London, so we don't have cash to burn.

I was ready to throw in the towel and tell my friends not to bother, but then a Black Friday miracle happened.

Just as it looked like all hope had been lost, Amazon has delivered what can only be described as an absolute banger of a deal, and it's on a newer and, in many ways, better pair of headphones.

In a surprise twist, the Sony WH-1000XM5 are the headphones I'm now recommending to my friends, as they are now hugely discounted to just £150. We initially reviewed this pair of headphones at £380, and since the launch of the WH-1000XM6 earlier this year, the price has slowly come down, with Amazon quoting a recent price of £260.

Regardless of how you look at it, that is an incredible deal; in fact, these headphones ar now cheaper than their predecessors.

You'll notice that these are labelled as the WH-1000XM5SA, which is a slightly different model number from the original model. This is because Sony gave these headphones a light refresh that swaps the hard-shell case of the originals for a soft carrying bag. Otherwise, we've been assured that these are the same headphones.

Sony has a habit of doing this: tweaking a couple of minor things and attaching a new model number to their existing products, and dropping the price while doing so. We've seen the company do something similar with the Bravia 8 OLED TV, which now has a cheaper counterpart in the form of the Bravia 8A.

Regardless, these headphones will deliver the same excellent sonic capabilities of the standard XM5 headphones, including punchy, agile and precise bass mixed with top-notch clarity and top-notch timing.

This comes with a host of creature comforts, including a claimed 30-hour battery life, and a ten-minute charge via a supported USB PD charging brick will enable five hours of listening time if that battery runs flat.

On a personal level, I prefer the design of the WH-1000XM4 as I found these cans to be sturdier and easier to travel with as they fold away, which the XM5 do not, but the build remains sleek and premium regardless of how you look at it.

These are a seriously talented pair of headphones, and they happen to be the cheapest way to gain access to Sony's stellar flagship WH-1000XM range currently. This year's WH-1000XM6 are currently retailing for £299 at Amazon, which is a considerable step up.

I've already spread the news that these headphones are on sale to every group chat I can think of, and multiple friends of mine are now scrambling to Amazon to snatch up this deal.

If I were a betting man, I'd guess that this deal will sell out quickly (much like the Apple AirPods Pro 2 deal I missed out on by not being quick enough), so I wouldn't hesitate if these headphones are on your wishlist.

If you’re thinking of buying your first turntable this Black Friday, or upgrading from a more budget model, you won’t find many better mid-priced turntables than the Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2.

A current What Hi-Fi? Award winner, the Debut Evo 2 combines a highly appealing aesthetic with a detailed, fluid and open sound, while its delivery of midrange frequencies is especially wonderful.

It can now be yours for £539 at Richer Sounds too, which is the lowest price we’ve seen all year. It might appear to be on sale for £599, but a 10% discount code is applied at the checkout, knocking the best part of £60 off.

The gloss red and gloss white versions are not available with this discount at Richer Sounds, but if you’re set on either of these finishes, they can be had for £539 at Sevenoaks.

The Evo 2 belt-driven turntable is a smooth operator that is easy to set up, is excellently built and has a minimalist design for a clean, stylish aesthetic.

It features several updates from the older Debut Carbon Evo, such as a heavy aluminium platter that has a dense ring of TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) to reduce unwanted resonances. It comes equipped with a Pick-It MM Evo moving magnet cartridge, and thanks to the non-magnetic new platter, it’s possible to upgrade to a moving coil cartridge should you feel the need.

Not that you’d need to, though, because the Evo 2 sounds brilliant as it is. During testing, we noted it has “a beautifully fluid delivery and a particularly lovely and sweet-toned midrange – qualities that make it a very appealing listen”.

This mid-priced deck also has “a lively, fleet-footed presentation that zips along merrily through every song – it’s an enthusiastic performer that just wants to have fun”.

With no Bluetooth, USB connectivity, or automatic operation, it’s certainly more of a traditional, purist turntable offering. No phono stage is present either, so if you’re buying your first turntable or upgrading from a deck that had one built in, we recommend you take a look at the Award-winning Rega Fono MM Mk5.

There’s also scope to upgrade the Evo 2’s sound further, as Pro-Ject offers a range of useful upgrade accessories to make the deck’s sound more authoritative and dynamic. We would recommend the High Power it 2 fully grounded power supply – it’s only £25!

Either way, the Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 is a marvellous mid-priced turntable, especially now it’s available for £539 at Richer Sounds or Sevenoaks. We think it’s one of the best Black Friday turntable deals around.

However, if you look past the heavy hitters, you may find a few hidden gems out there. There are plenty of great products from smaller brands, and they too are getting in on the Black Friday action.

So we've rounded-up some discounts that you might have missed in the sea of deals, all of which are on products that we’ve tested and reviewed, and come with our expert recommendation.

Austrian Audio's affordable headphones

Regular readers will be aware of our love for Austrian Audio, with not one but three What Hi-Fi? Awards in the company's trophy cabinet.

But if your budget can't quite stretch to the likes of the Sony XM range, then the Austrian Audio Hi-X25BT are an excellent alternative.

The brand's Bluetooth headphones offer a clean, detailed sound, comfortable design and a genuine sense of fun. Discounts are rare, but the Hi-X25BT are currently £20 off at Richer Sounds.

Earfun's super-cheap wireless earbuds

How can you not be charmed by a brand name like Earfun? It won't trouble the audiophile market, but Earfun stay in their lane of budget-friendly true wireless earbuds and headphones, and does it a lot better than most.

The Earfun Air in particular are the cheapest five-star earbuds that we currently recommend. They get the basics right with a punchy, expansive sound, an IPX7 waterproof rating and an impressive 35-hour battery life. And at £23 at Amazon right now, you can't really go wrong.

Triangle's streaming system

Triangle may not be a household name outside of the audio world, but speaker system fans will definitely be aware of the French brand.

This will be in large part due to the Triangle AIO Twin, a versatile all-in-one system that combines speakers, amplification, streaming and connectivity into one package. A package that won a 2025 What Hi-Fi? Award.

We found them to be pretty incredible value at £699, but they can currently be found for £100 off at Richer Sounds.

Audio Pro wireless speaker

JBL may dominate much of the wireless speaker market, but it faces stiff competition from Audio Pro when it comes to the premium multi-room offerings.

We're still waiting on a discount on the Swedish company's Award-winning Audio Pro C20 W, but we're quite taken by a current deal on the five-star Audio Pro Addon C10 MKII.

Boasting wide-ranging multi-room skills and performance that outdoes more expensive speakers, this previous What Hi-Fi? Award winner is now down to £180 at Amazon, a whopping 45% discount.

Astell & Kern music player

While dedicated portable music players may not be on everyone's radar, they're a great way to get great sound on the go without relying on your phone.

The South Korean audio company has dominated the portable music player category in recent years, with the Astell & Kern A&norma SR35 winning ever since its release in 2023. And for good reason – the model features a smart, compact design, is littered with features, and sounds fantastic with any genre of music.

It's also back to its lowest ever price of £599 at Richer Sounds, and even comes with a free case.

Technics wireless earbuds

We know what you're thinking. Technics? A smaller brand!? But hear me out. Technics may be well established in the turntable market, but it recently turned its talented hands to a brand-new audio product: wireless earbuds.
