Super Bowl 2023 preview

Super Bowl 57 is scheduled to kick off at 11.30pm GMT / 6.30pm ET today, 12th February 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona – just a few moments' time. It will be the first time that the Chiefs have faced the Eagles in the NFL season finale. It's a hot evening in Glendale, with the temperatures not set to drop until well into the second half. Expect the players to be cooling off at every opportunity.

The Chiefs advanced to their third Super Bowl in four years after 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship final, while the Eagles flew into their first Super Bowl in five years after destroying the injury-hit 49ers in the NFC playoff.

Both teams have 16-3 records but Philadelphia remain slight favourites at -1.5 (some $16 billion is expected to be wagered on Super Bowl 57 in the United States). Kansas' Patrick Mahomes will be gunning for his second Super Bowl victory; Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts is just one win away from his first.

Deciding factors could include how quickly Patrick Mahomes' ankle sprain heals, the accuracy of Jalen Hurts' passing game and the stability of Kansas' rookie defence, led by Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams.

Despite noted as a "fast healer", according to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, the Texas-born QB is not thought to be 100 percent ready today but good enough to go. Mahomes has insisted his wife, Brittany, bring their two-year-old daughter and 11-week-old son to the stadium to watch, so he must be expecting to play a big part in proceedings.

Don't go too far at halftime else you might miss Rihanna performing the Super Bowl halftime show. The "We Found Love" singer is the confirmed headliner for 2023, but who will be her special guests? There's no official confirmation yet but credible rumours include Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled and Eminem.

The halftime show typically lasts 12-14 minutes and features epic pyrotechnics, hundreds of dancers and spectacular wardrobe changes (not to mention the odd wardrobe malfunction).

Super Bowl FAQs

Who is performing the Super Bowl half time show?

Grammy-winning Rihanna will headline the Super Bowl halftime show 2023. The Barbadian singer is making her comeback to the stage after five years away, with Jay-Z "reportedly helping her organize the show" (via CinemaBlend)

Expect RiRi to deliver a medley of bangers, including Rude Boy, Only Girl (In the World), Umbrella and Diamonds. So, not one to miss. Even pop megastar Adele has said she's going to the Super Bowl "just for Rihanna". Blimey.

Who will be Rihanna's guests at the Super Bowl halftime show?

Fifty guest artists are said to have been "under consideration" for the Super Bowl halftime show, including Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Neyo, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled and Eminem. If you ask us, the likelihood that Kanye West will appear at Super Bowl 57 is slim to none. There's more chance of Pope Francis hitching up his cassock and dancing onto the stage to duet with RiRi.

Who is favoured to win Super Bowl 2023?

The Chiefs entered the playoffs as the favourites to win the Super Bowl but the Philadelphia Eagles became the new +2 favourites after the AFC and NFC Championship games.

Can ChatGPT predict the Super Bowl winner?

No. When asked who will win the Super Bowl, ChatGPT told the Detroit Free Press: "As a language model AI, I do not have the ability to predict future events, including the outcome of the Super Bowl. The outcome of a sporting event is subject to many variables and can change based on numerous factors, making it difficult to accurately predict."

Well, that told us. ChatGPT can, however, recommend the best way to make guacamole dip and (some) of the best ways to watch Super Bowl 57, though it's no match for the (human) AV experts at What Hi-Fi?, obviously.

How much is a Super Bowl ticket?

The cheapest ticket is priced at $5368 (£4337). A pair of VIP seats on the lower level, plus entry to the official NFL tailgate party and 4-star hotel accommodation costs $50,000 (£40,300).

Where is the Super Bowl in 2024?

Super Bowl 2024 will take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
