They directed me

to the LG support line which appears on the TV, they are sending someone out in the next 2-10 working days.  Not enamoured with the lead times but at least the TV is watchable.

it just occurred to me.

under the old goods and services act if I accepted a repair i would lose the right to get a refund or exchange.  should i not be accepting an engineer coming around to take a look or should i pursue with the vendor Amazon for an exchange or refund?

Depends really how much you like the TV? Whether you can afford a better one? Which one would you exchange for?  I can't see many TVs in 65-inches available for £2000, can you?

I like the TV, but the question would be whether i should accept a repair on insist on a replacement and get a new device.  If i accept a repair what other faults could be hiding in there?

I always believe in giving a chance for repair first. You get a warranty for the repair work too. If you're not happy with the work, you're free to return it then. There shouldn't be any issue.

good to know BB

the law changed for purchases after 2015.  it used to be that if you accepted a repair on a faulty itemthen you forfeited the right to a refund or exchange but i'm not sure on the new set of rules but didn't want to go down that route if that was still the case.  You now have to have have a case against te vendor as to whether the fault was present at the time of sale but i would argue that a TV regardless of costs would be expected to operated for a number of years before expecting to replace it.

I suppose I would personally go for a new TV.  smiley

To true mate.  Never heard of getting the fans done twice!  Did they go really bad again?

Yep they sure did. Panasonic

Yep they sure did. Panasonic service was second to none and came out within a week and replaced them.

Glad they gave me the 6 year warranty, and have 2 years left after this November, although the TV does get some hammer!

Looks like a panel fault.

Swapped out the main board back on the wall and just the same.  Doesn't sound like there are any spares in stock either so let's see where they take it from here.

It's a lot of TV for the money and as Gel mentioned not sure what I could get even with a full refund.  3D, UHD, HDR and DV, would hate to lose 3D.
