Only if they haven't looked at http://awards.whathifi.com

And of course if they have, they'll realise it isn't a spoiler at all.

And so, on Feb 22nd 1966,...

RE: What HiFi Awards

Surprised to see no mention of Sonos in there, even if it hadn't won.

It's in there under Systems - Best Multi-room System.

It's not Product of the Year for the category though.

Yup. They don't have an over-ear category though. Will probably confuse some people.

Well they have an at home category. I would have thought the Sennheiser Momentum On Ear would have been in the on ear category and the Momentum over ears in the at home category, some say the on ear ones are better than the other ears and they are much cheaper.

Listen to the music, not the hifi.

RE: What HiFi Awards

For me, this whole topic throws an important question : who is believing in such rankings !

A rating on the very serious Hifi-forum.de shows that 95% of the users declared that they didn't trust magazines for their ranking or the impartiality of their tests. The whole lot of the posters in the forum although, rarely could see a reality between the magazines tests and the real performance. Another serious critic coming from serious testers is that magazines NEVER make blindtests, built up serious test methodologies nor take mesures on their own. In some extreme cases, they use false methodologies for backing some voodoo theories (Stereoplay was particulary badly concerned about that). In the Whathifi ranking for example, I totally miss a test methodology, and no serious mesures seemed to have been made.

I although put the finger of another problematic aspect of a tests and rankings : The perception of the tester himself and his tastes are never explained and it's a key element for knowing what a product is in the eyes of a reviewer.

Fact is, such classments never replace a good personal experience in hifi. Go to your local hifi stores or to hifi-friends in your near, test the stuff out, learn, and you will be able to make your own conclusions and putting a finger on your own likes.
