RE: Parallel lines

LHC is being his usual pedantic self.  Of course everyone's living rooms are different, but it is possible to make certain reasonable generalisations which would be largely representative for the purpose of testing, and none of them would involve having a £1m carefully-designed and acoustically-treated room.

Head-fi: various, but most often Sennheiser HD-580 or Audio Technica ATH-M50X

<Removed by MODS> Are you seriously suggesting WHF should do their test in their front room? Can you imagine the ridicule that would be heaped upon them if they did that?

 What a lovely mature response.  I suppose we should expect nothing less.

Actually LHC I've thought for ages you have issues you need professional help with.  Maybe now is a good time.

RE: Parallel lines

Parallel Lines was first lp I bought with my own money. It's definitely in my all time top 10

Got tickets to see Blondie this summer.

£1m listening room we are told. Sounds pretty pointless to me, maybe that is why their reviews differ from other uses reviews. I would have thought that a more normal living room would have been better as that is what most people will be using.

Who's living room? Yours? mine? None of our rooms will sound the same, nobody has a "standard" living room, so how are you supposed to pick one that's representative? You can't, so you create a room that adds nothing (or as little as possible) to sound of the equipment and then you review the equipment, not the room. You haven't really thought it through have you? This is why reviews are only a guide, you have to do your own listening, ideally in your own room, to make a choice.

This is spot on ....

Hear a system in a room like theirs and you will hear how much effect your room has on it
