What does the "Use error correction" function in Windows media play do?

In Windows Media Player if you right click on the icon at the top right then select 'More options' then the 'Devices' tab and click on 'DVD' it gives you the option to 'Use error correction' when you rip music.

What does this error correction actually do?

Exactly what it says.

I have the same option on iTunes.

It slows down rips a bit, but ensures you get a bit perfect file.

Thanks chebby.

I thought that's probably what it is but I just couldn't find anything on the internet to confirm it.
