Assembling a vinyl collection on a budget can be hard work – especially when you’re on the hunt for some wax you’ll really cherish, not just second-hand records with grooves worn thin.

So, as Prime Day rolled around this year, I was eager to see what discounts might pop up on the records that have been missing from my collection.

With all the recent talk of Gen Z’s growing interest in physical formats, I was hopeful that this year’s Prime Day might see a broader spectrum of genres becoming available at a discount. Amazon, surely, are down with the kids… right?

Boy, was I wrong.

Unfortunately, this year’s range of discounted vinyl has been – to put it mildly – disappointing. Better deals were available outside Amazon, such as HMV’s three for £66 bundle, but even still, the bargains were scarce.

Still, never one to give up too early, at least not when browsing records, I trawled through the digital crates so you don’t have to, and came across three Prime Day picks that I think are worth your money.

All Prime Day deals end tonight, so if you’re feeling enticed, now is the time to grab these discounted picks.

We would have liked to provide a more extensive list of vinyl deals, but this year, Prime Day simply hasn’t had much on offer. Either way, we think these three albums will make fantastic additions to any record collection.

Apple's AirPods wireless earbuds: they're white, and they're expensive. But while the former fact may hold true, the latter certainly doesn't: the AirPods 4 have dropped to just £80 at Amazon – a discount of just under £40. That's their lowest ever price.

But the deal won't last long – it expires at midnight tonight. Which gives you just – checks watch – less than 10 hours to buy. Cue the Countdown music, but extended to nearly 300 times as long.

Apple hiked its prices yesterday due to the global RAM shortage – the AirPods 4 may have escaped unscathed, but this is still your last chance to save before they return to their full price.

We haven't reviewed this exact model, but the equivalent with active noise cancellation (ANC) scored four stars. Given that these are identical (bar the lack of ANC and the associated features), we have a good idea of what to expect.

Think a sonic performance that's close to the outgoing AirPods Pro 2. In our review we concluded that the AirPods 4 with ANC's "snappy, agile and clean performance is easy to enjoy at this mid-range level."

They're very well put together (as you would expect from an Apple product) and a dream to use with an iOS device (ditto). About the only disappointment is the battery life: five hours from the buds alone, and a total of 30 hours with the charging case. Ho-hum.

Still, at this price (£80 at Amazon) you can hardly complain.

And if you do want ANC, the AirPods 4 with ANC are also on sale – they're just £125 at Amazon, but again, the deal ends tonight. Decisions, decisions.

I've tested dozens of headphones – these are the 6 best Prime Day headphones deals I recommend for under £150

Above, you can see the Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT, sitting on a bookcase at the back of my living room. It's a fairly recent addition to my system, but one that I've quickly fallen in love with.

A big part of that is because it is, in fact, my very first turntable. I've been involved in lots of turntable reviews in my 19 years at What Hi-Fi?, but it's taken until this year for me to get a deck home.

Honestly, it's pretty much transformed my music-listening, taken me back to the pre-streaming years when I would buy an album and listen to it on repeat until its tracks had been absorbed at an almost molecular level.

My family has been loving it, too: the artwork, the process of placing a record on the platter and lowering the arm, the rich sound quality – it's all so tactile and rewarding.

As you can imagine, though, my vinyl collection is currently minuscule – just eight records – so I decided to add a fairly inexpensive streamer to my system, too.

The WiiM Pro Plus came highly recommended by my colleagues Kashfia Kabir and Harry McKerrell, and I now know why: its detailed, crisp and rhythmic delivery is great for the everyday streaming I'm doing between vinyl plays.

The good news is that both of these bits of kit, both of which I use at home and wholeheartedly recommend, are currently available with big discounts: the Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT is available for £399 at Richer Sounds, and the WiiM Pro Plus is down to just £175 at Richer Sounds.

The Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT is one of the best entry-level decks we've tested.

We awarded it five stars for its wonderfully balanced performance, praising its ability to sound detailed, insightful and rhythmic while remaining approachable for vinyl newcomers. It also helps that it's beautifully made, with a premium finish that makes it feel much more expensive than it actually is.

Bluetooth support is the icing on the cake, giving you the flexibility to pair it with compatible speakers or headphones if you want to – I've got it wireless connected to a pair of KEF Coda W Bluetooth speakers, as it happens.

The WiiM Pro Plus earned the same five-star verdict for very different reasons.

It's an astonishingly capable music streamer for the money, with support for just about every streaming service you could want while delivering a sound that's clean, expressive and engaging. It extracts an impressive amount of detail from recordings, with plenty of drive and precision to keep music sounding lively and entertaining.

What I particularly like about this pairing is that it means you don't have to choose between analogue and digital. When I want the ritual of putting on a record, the Pro-Ject is ready to go. When I just want instant access to millions of songs while I'm lazing on the sofa or working from home, the WiiM takes over seamlessly.

Of course, there are better turntables and better streamers available if you're prepared to spend significantly more. But if you're looking to build a hi-fi system that covers both vinyl and streaming without spending a fortune, this combination is hard to beat.

Regular readers of this website might be familiar with my turntable journey, where I fell hard for the vinyl revival a few years ago and upended my home system (and rearranged furniture) to make space for a turntable system.

My original system was modest and patched together: a Rega Planar turntable hooked up to the tiny Fono Mini A2D MkII phono stage and then connected to the Ruark MR1 Mk2 desktop speakers I've had for years. It was a lovely little set up and, most importantly for me, I did find myself using it regularly to play my slowly growing vinyl record collection.

But, as someone who loves traditional hi-fi separates, I was hankering for something more ‘proper’, and last year I finally graduated to a pair of Neat speakers and Naim’s Nait 50 stereo amplifier.

The Naim upgrade meant a couple of crucial things. First, it has a fantastic moving-magnet phono stage built-in, so my system actually ended up being neater as I no longer needed that outboard phono stage.

Second, it has a headphone amplifier with a 6.3mm socket. This section is completely new – it wasn’t on the original Nait 1 amp from 1983 – but the 50th anniversary homage adopts the headphone amp circuit from the five-star NSC 222 streaming preamplifier.

While I haven’t taken advantage of it so far, I have been thinking about finally getting a pair of wired headphones. As the summer days get longer, I find myself wanting to listen to my records late into the night while the rest of the house has gone to sleep – but obviously without disturbing my husband, my cat or my neighbours.

I have been eyeing up the awesome Sennheiser HD820 closed-back headphones for ages. We tested these five-star premium audiophile headphones a few years ago, noting their full-bodied, detailed sound and satisfying punch and agility in the low frequencies.

The problem is, the HD820 are way out of my budget even with the discounted price of £1299 at Sevenoaks. As I kept searching for something more in my price range, I found that the Sennheiser HD 505 wired headphones we tested last year are available at a much more wallet-friendly price of £180 at Amazon – and I’m tempted.

It’s not just the price that’s appealing – although that £50 discount off the original £230 test price is pretty good. That they're also an open-back design is what has caught my eye. I do find listening to closed-back headphones quite fatiguing after a while, so an open-back pair – with their more airy, open presentation – might be more amenable to the way I like to listen to music.

We say in our review that the HD 505 headphones’ “top end is wonderfully smooth, with no undue sibilance or brightness – overall this is as easy-going a listen as you could hope for.” That sounds ideal to me. The more budget pricing doesn’t mean Sennheiser has cut corners either. We found these headphones particularly talented in the midrange, with voices delivered with subtlety, clarity and a refinement that’s impressive at this level.

Grado’s SR325x and the Austrian Audio Hi-X65 are snappier, punchier and more agile open-back rivals (and are pricier), but I think I’ll prefer the Sennheiser’s smoother balance and more comfortable, lightweight build quality overall. During our testing, we found the earcups to be roomy enough that over-heating wasn’t an issue, and they weren’t fussy with partnering equipment, which means they should play nice with my Naim amp.

The HD 505 are a great entry point to Sennheiser’s audiophile wired headphones, and the relatively affordable price helps too. Will they transform my late-night vinyl listening sessions? I can’t wait to plug them in and find out.

Forget Prime Day – I’ve found 12 terrific hi-fi deals you won’t find anywhere on Amazon

As someone who tests home cinema products for a living, I have used countless 4K Blu-ray discs to challenge picture and sound quality on a range of different products. That includes some of the cheapest projectors we have tested (the Xgimi Vibe One, for example) and premium all-in-one sound systems such as the Focal Mu-so Hekla.

There are some discs that I turn to specifically for their unique specifications. Pan, for instance, is a pretty tedious watch, but it is mastered to a whopping 4000 nits, which makes it a great test of brightness.

But the majority of movies I use in the test room are films I would gladly turn on in my living room and watch all the way through. Sadly, I can't justify that when testing (cue the tears and sorrow).

So which 4K Blu-rays am I recommending this Amazon Prime Day?

There are almost too many to choose from, but I have managed to whittle my top picks down to a slender offering of six. Not only will these movies provide a gripping viewing experience, but they will also challenge your home cinema system, whether that’s with its picture, sound or both.

All of the 4K discs on this list are included in the 3 for £50 deal at HMV, which saves you about £10, although that is dependent on which movies you choose. As well as the movies below, I heartily recommend adding our all-time favourites Blade Runner 2049 and Dune: Part Two to your collection if you have not already.

I couldn’t really say that Prime Day has been overly generous with dedicated hi-fi deals this year, but that hasn’t stopped me hunting around for hidden bargains.

And, I have managed to piece together a very capable (and discounted) system using electronics from just one manufacturer. After all, who doesn’t like having kit that matches in their hi-fi rack?

If you want to purchase your first hi-fi in one fell swoop, you can pick up the Cambridge Audio AXA35 amplifier with £50 off, AXC35 CD player with £50 off and MXN10 music streamer with £100 off, all at Amazon or Richer Sounds.

That makes a combined discount of £200, which I think is pretty attractive in the current economic climate.

Many of us will have CDs at home, but also want to enjoy the wealth of choice that a music streaming service has to offer, which is why I have added both options to this system.

The AXC35 does a solid job of spinning your CD collection. Budget players such as this are becoming increasingly rare, and this model hits the spot, producing a clear and detailed sound for the money.

The MXN10 streamer is a brilliant box of tricks. A delight to use, it offers a wide array of streaming features and sounds absolutely fantastic for the money.

It offers AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, Internet Radio. There’s also Bluetooth 5.0 on board, which will come in handy as that’s the only major omission from the amplifier.

Speaking of which, the AXA35 oozes both sonic and all-round appeal. It boasts an even-handed approach to music and delivers dynamics in an impressive, entertaining manner for the money.

The amp also features a headphone output and a moving-magnet phono stage, should you want to add wired headphones or a turntable further down the line.

The only thing missing is a pair of speakers to complete the package – but don’t worry, I have you covered.

As the icing on the cake, I would look to add a five-star pair of speakers such as the Dali Oberon 1. Their unfussy nature and high-quality sound will help allow the electronics to shine. And the best news is that they are discounted from £399 to £299 at Peter Tyson.

I’ve always had a soft spot for micro hi-fi systems, so I’m excited to see this awesome-sounding, five-star favourite discounted for Prime Day

Hi-fi speaker deals are thin on the ground this Prime Day, but I have tracked down six of the best worth a closer look

During Prime Day, I always get asked, “are there any good cheap turntables?”

It’s not surprising given how vinyl, and retro hi-fi in general, seems to be growing in popularity with young people (heck, I caught my niece rocking wired headphones the other day!).

And, because I’m lazy, I have decided to address the sea of questions asking exactly that during this year’s Prime Day, here, in one handy article.

And it’s both good and bad news. Yes, there are two very good cheap turntables available right now that will delight hi-fi newbies or people looking to add a cost-effective record player to their existing system. But the deck we recommend most hasn’t had a Prime Day discount.

First up, for people who value audio quality above all else, but are on a tight budget, we have our standard recommendation, the Pro-Ject Primary E.

This is the cheap turntable we have recommended in our best record player guide for years, and the top option right now. It’s available on Amazon, and pretty much all of the specialist hi-fi retailers, for its bog standard £229 (ignore the save £20 icon on some shops, it’s been that price for ages).

The turntable offers the best audio quality you will find for less than £250, and has a pleasingly simple plug and play nature. That’s why we have recommended it for so long; our review verdict sums it up:

“There is a whole cavalcade of budget turntables flooding the market – from Crosley, Lenco, Audio-Technica, Majority and more – with fancy features, electronic speed change, and built-in preamp speakers in snazzy, trendy-looking designs. We can see their appeal, but remain unconvinced when it comes to their sound quality.

“We have no such reservations about the musically entertaining Pro-Ject Primary E. For a beginner’s vinyl revival path who has this kind of budget and is more fussed about getting the best sound from your records than about features such as record ripping and automatic operation, the multiple Award-winning Primary E could be just the ticket.”

That’s as true now as it was in 2018 when we first wrote it.

And if you’re getting a sense of déjà vu, there’s a reason: I have written a version of this piece every Prime Day since I joined What Hi-Fi?.

The only downside for the Pro-Ject Primary E is the lack of an in-built phono stage. This means you need to have an amp or system with one built in, as well as a pair of speakers, to get it running.

If that’s a problem, I am pleased to report there has been one cool development since my last warning against bogus turntable deals; we have a new cheap unit with a built-in phono stage to recommend.

Say hello to the Sony PS-LX3BT, a five-star entry-level turntable we recommend to proper hi-fi newbies who don’t own, or want, a separate system. The unit has a solid built-in phono stage, an equally easy plug-and-play nature as the Primary E, and comes with the added allure of Bluetooth connectivity.

The unit is available for £220 (save £79) on Amazon, though the retailer is reporting only having one left in stock. The next best price is on Sevenoaks Sound and Vision which is selling it for £223.

The Sony PS-LX3BT is a stellar option for people who want a just-add-speakers set-up – if you don’t already own a stereo pair, we recommend the Award-winning Dali Kupid, which cost £299.

The only reason we don’t recommend the Sony over the Pro-Ject overall, is that, during testing when we ran the two head to head, we found the Primary E is still the top dog for audio quality at this price. If plug and play simplicity is your main priority, however, the Sony is the one to get.

I've been totally open about my love for the Sony Bravia 8 II. Not only is it the current What Hi-Fi? Awards TV of the year, it's also the TV I use at home.

Seeing as I've been reviewing TVs for almost 20 years, that hopefully says a lot.

The Bravia 8 II is also on sale right now, with the 65-inch version available for £2099 at Richer Sounds.

That's not the cheapest it's ever been (that would be £1979), but it's still a good price for what is an absolutely awesome TV.

If I were looking to buy a premium TV right now, though, it's the 65-inch LG C5 I would go for.

It's a step-down OLED rather than a flagship like the Bravia 8 II, but it's still an absolutely cracking all-rounder of a TV, and it's currently available for £1299 at Amazon.

That price difference is just too big to ignore.

In our review, we awarded the C5 five stars, praising it for delivering "excellent all-round performance" that punches well above its price.

It's one of those rare TVs that doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, making it an easy recommendation whether you're a movie buff, sports fan or gamer.

Picture quality is the obvious highlight. The C5 produces rich, vibrant colours without sacrificing authenticity, while its contrast is superb, delivering the deep blacks and bright highlights that OLED TVs are famous for.

It's also wonderfully sharp and detailed, with excellent motion handling that keeps everything from fast-paced football to blockbuster action films looking smooth and natural.

Gaming is another area where the LG excels. All four HDMI sockets support the full HDMI 2.1 specification, including 4K/165Hz, VRR and ALLM, making it one of the most comprehensively equipped gaming TVs around.

Now, let's be clear: the Sony Bravia 8 II is still the better TV. It's brighter, more vibrant and more refined, producing an even more cinematic and authentic picture. Its built-in sound system is also leagues ahead of the LG's, delivering audio that's fuller, weightier and more immersive than almost any other TV.

If money were no object, I'd still tell you to buy the Bravia 8 II.

But money almost always is an object. And when you're looking at an £800 price difference, the LG C5 becomes the smarter buy.

I've tested quite a few budget Bluetooth turntables this year, including the Sony PS-LX3BT and the Sharp RP-TT100, but my top pick for overall sonic performance has to be the Sony PS-LX5BT. Like its LX3BT sibling, the PS-LX5BT earned the full five-star haul earlier this year thanks to its commendable sonic talents alongside excellent usability and multiple ways to listen.

Now that it's dropped to £307 at Amazon, Sevenoaks and John Lewis this Prime Day, you're in a great position to pick up five-star quality for £92 less than its standard RRP of £399. That's roughly 23 per cent off a supremely talented Bluetooth deck that we only recently reviewed!

Best Sony turntable Prime Day deal

The PS-LX5BT gives you the full Bluetooth turntable package, with a built-in phono stage, fully automatic operation and great sonic performance on a budget, although if you're looking to save even more cash, the step-down PS-LX3BT is also on sale for Prime Day.

That said, if you pick the LX5BT, you'll get a better cartridge, a slightly different arm tube, slip mat and finish, as well as fully detachable interconnect cables.

This being a fully automatic turntable, operation and setup are simple. The PS-LX5BT is easy to use and responsive to our commands, without needing to manually adjust the tonearm or tinker with tracking weights.

The PS-LX5BT is supplied with a pre-fitted moving magnet cartridge with a 2g tracking force, with much of the PS-LX5BT's improved performance likely deriving from its more premium cartridge.

For Bluetooth, there’s support for the hi-res aptX Adaptive codec for handling files wirelessly up to 24-bit/96kHz to compatible Bluetooth speakers and headphones, with the PS-LX5BT allowing up to eight devices to be paired at any given time.

Why would you get the PS-LX5BT over the cheaper PS-LX3BT? For us, the costlier deck does a great job of justifying its not-inconsiderable price increase over its more entry-level counterpart, offering a more open, spacious and more detailed sound than the LX3BT.

It also grants more space around instruments and gives the music greater breathing space within its broader, wider soundstage, leading to a more natural and immersive performance. Judged on its own or against its smaller sibling, Sony's affordable player really shines.

All in all, a great turntable with fantastic usability and class-leading sound at a fantastic knocked-down price. Find it at Amazon, Sevenoaks or John Lewis before Prime Day ends.

We have entered the final day of Amazon’s Prime Day sales event – sales are set to cease at midnight.

While we have been carefully choosing which deals to recommend to you and which are best avoided, it’s time to determine which deals are Prime Day winners, and who has provided the biggest disappointments during the sales event.

We have seen loads of excellent AV deals, and some of them can genuinely save you hundreds, and in some cases a thousand, pounds. These are the deals that we think are genuinely worth investing in this Prime Day; they knock prices down to new lows and ensure you’re getting the maximum bang for your buck.

Some products, however, haven’t been discounted at all. One company even decided to raise the prices of its products this Prime Day. These are, unsurprisingly, the losers.

So let’s find out who our Prime Day champions are…

Winner: LG C5 OLED TV

If there’s one TV that has enjoyed some seriously impressive discounts, it’s LG’s Award-winning step-down OLED from last year. We have recently reviewed the five-star C6, and it’s a great TV, but we believe the heavily discounted C5 is the better buy this Prime Day.

We’ve seen the 42-inch model drop to as low as £611, though it seems to have bounced slightly back up to £623 at Amazon; all in all, still a considerable saving over the £1099 price we reviewed it at.

Stepping up to the 48-inch model will also grant you some serious savings, as it can be found for just £725 at Amazon, down from its original price of £1399.

However, the 55-inch model is looking like the sweet spot to us. This set has dropped to a staggering £969 at Amazon – we reviewed it at £1900, so you're essentially saving a grand here.

This versatile OLED TV will impress gamers and cinephiles alike, thanks to its four HDMI 2.1 sockets, VRR support, and LG’s Game Dashboard feature, as well as its detailed, contrast-rich, and balanced picture performance.

Winner: Dolby Atmos soundbars

If there was ever a time to invest in a Dolby Atmos soundbar, Prime Day is it. We are seeing major discounts attached to some of our favourite Award-winning models, meaning now is the ideal time to ditch your TV’s underwhelming built-in speakers.

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 has dropped from £449 to £337 at Peter Tyson, marking a £112 discount on the best entry-level Dolby Atmos soundbar. The Hisense AX5125H, which adds wireless surround speakers and a subwoofer to the mix, can now be snapped up for a truly impressive £199 at Richer Sounds.

For us, though, it’s the Samsung HW-Q990F at B&Q for £695 that really steals the show here. We have never seen it drop this low before.

That means our reigning Product of the Year winner is currently £1004 cheaper than the price when we reviewed it. And that makes this easily the best soundbar deal of Prime Day, and perhaps one of the best deals we have seen during the entire sales event.

Winner: 4K Blu-ray

Physical media is back!

Well, at least it is this Prime Day; we are seeing a few great deals on 4K Blu-ray. Could they be enough to tempt you away from streaming?

HMV’s 3 for £50 multibuy deal is a tempting choice for those looking to stock up on or start their collection, while Amazon seems to be the best place to buy single discs and box sets.

We are seeing savings on big franchise 4K box sets, including The Lord of the Rings, Mission: Impossible and John Wick, as well as deals on F1: The Movie, Interstellar, Sinners and plenty more.

If you’re sick of streaming, these deals will help you enjoy your favourite films with a greatly improved picture and sound experience, and of course you get to keep them for life.

Loser: Apple

How do you take the concept of Prime Day, and do the complete opposite? Simple: you raise the prices of your five-star hi-fi and home-cinema products.

Apple pulled a blinder in the middle of Prime Day by increasing the price of the Apple TV 4K in both its 64GB and 128GB + Ethernet configurations. We also saw the prices of the HomePod 2, HomePod Mini, and iPad Air rise sharply.

The 64GB version of Apple’s Award-winning streamer now costs £199 (up from £149 / $130 / AU$219); the 128GB model now costs £249 (originally £169 / $179 / $249).

Just to clarify, this is the same 2022 model that Apple is currently refusing to upgrade. In our original review (published back in 2022), we said that “the best video streamer just got better (and cheaper)”, but it looks like we’ll have to amend that line.

Thankfully, a few retailers haven’t caught on to Apple’s price hike yet, so you can still pick the Apple TV 4K up for its original launch price if you’re quick. Buying direct from Apple should be avoided at all costs while these retailers are offering the original prices.

Loser: 4K Blu-ray players

While the 4K Blu-ray format itself seems to be thriving this Prime Day, disc players haven’t enjoyed the same discounts.

Panasonic and Sony, practically the last bastions of the 4K Blu-ray player market, have opted to leave the prices of their respective disc spinners unchanged this Prime Day.

The Award-winning DP-UB820EB is currently sitting at £349, which is higher than the original £290 we reviewed it at thanks to a price increase a couple of years ago (we see where Apple got the inspiration from). Sony’s UBP-UX700K (which is essentially the same as the UBP-UX700), meanwhile, is a whopping £9 off at Amazon, down from its usual £249 price.

Our recommendation for anyone looking to pick up an affordable disc player this Prime Day is to consider the Panasonic DP-UB150EB, which is a fairly affordable 4K Blu-ray player at £159.

That is still £30 more than the price we originally reviewed it at, but price increases seem inevitable these days.

Prime Day 2026 is almost coming to an end, so if you're seeking a pair of standmounts this summer, the clock is very much ticking.

We've got a sun-soaked deal for you, and it comes in the shape of the very personable Q Acoustics 5010, which have fallen to £349 at various retailers including Amazon, Richer Sounds and Peter Tyson. While that's a drop of £50 from their original £399 test price, various retailers have listed the 5010 at a more hefty £499, making this a more substantial saving of around £150.

Q Acoustics' 5000 series has been a roaring success, producing the likes of the Award-winning 5050 floorstanders and the also-outstanding 5040 towers. We've been mightily impressed, and while the 5010 standmounts aren't quite in the same league are their larger cousins, they still evidence much of the same characteristics that made the 5050 and 5040 so special.

The build quality is certainly there. The 5010 are well-made speakers, from their signature rounded-off edges to the quality of the single set of terminals housed at each speaker’s rear.

The 25mm tweeter is based on the same design as found in Q Acoustics’ Concept series, wherein the driver is decoupled from the baffle to stop vibrations from the mid/bass unit affecting the sound.

The driver’s inner chamber, meanwhile, has been vented to reduce distortion and promote a cleaner, clearer signature.

Get them up and firing and you'll hear what Q Acoustics was aiming for. As we said in our review, the 5010 are "a deeply impressive pair of standmounts. They produce an immensely cohesive sound, making our music so organised and well integrated that even the Award-winning Bowers & Wilkins 607 S3 come across as slightly ill-disciplined by comparison".

Detail levels are immensely strong, with a clean-natural personality that makes mid-range elements such as pianos, guitars and vocals really shine.

The 5010 match those instrumental elements with robustness and power, complemented by ample bass weight that gives tracks enough lower-end oomph.

They're not as snappy or emotionally engaging as, say, the Dali Oberon 1, but we know that the 5010's given sonic signature will have its fans, especially at this significantly discounted price.

You're probably well aware of this, but England are playing Panama in the World Cup tomorrow, and it's now a much bigger game than it should have been, thanks to that tame no-score-draw with Ghana.

The good news is that this should also be a fun game, with at least a couple of goals for Tuchel's chaps.

If you're still using your TVs built-in speakers, though, you're still missing out on a fair bit of the fun that football can offer. The good news is that there's still time to rectify that.

I've scoured the Amazon Prime Day (and adjacent) sales to find a high-quality soundbar that you can have delivered tomorrow. Somewhat surprisingly, I can't find a model I recommend at Amazon with fast enough delivery.

But, thankfully, Currys has come up trumps with a full Dolby Atmos soundbar system that I tested and we gave a What Hi-Fi? Award to – and it can be delivered tomorrow.

Said system is the Hisense AX5125H, which comprises soundbar, a wireless subwoofer and two wireless surrounds for a record-equalling low price of just £199 at Currys.

Delivery tomorrow will cost you an extra £6.99, which seems very reasonable for the convenience, or you might find you can pick up from a local store for free.

At £199, the AX5125H isn't just a cheap way to improve your TV's sound – it's one of the very best-value Dolby Atmos packages we've tested.

Unlike most soundbars at this price, you get a complete 5.1.2-channel system in the box, with wireless surround speakers and a wireless subwoofer helping to create a much bigger, more immersive sound than your TV could ever hope to produce on its own.

During testing, we were particularly impressed by the Hisense's ability to project effects around the room. That makes it a brilliant choice for sport, where crowd noise, commentary and the atmosphere of the stadium all feel far more involving than they do through a TV's built-in speakers. If (when!) England find the back of the net against Panama, you'll feel much more like you're there to celebrate it.

It's not just for football, either. We found the AX5125H delivered an energetic, spacious and surprisingly cinematic performance with movies, while dialogue remains clear and easy to follow. Music playback is respectable, too, making this a genuinely versatile all-rounder rather than a one-trick pony.

No soundbar is perfect at this price, and there are more refined and dynamic systems available if you're prepared to spend considerably more. But at £199, the Hisense simply delivers too much performance to ignore.

That's why we gave it five stars, a What Hi-Fi? Award and, now that it's back down to its record-equalling lowest price, it's one of the easiest Prime Day alternatives I can recommend.

Remember when everyone had a micro system? When one box that did it all, with a couple of speakers thrown in to provide the sound, was all the rage. I had my fair share in my youth, including an Aiwa, JVC and Sony to name but three.

While these kinds of systems might have traded places with wireless speakers over the years, there’s been one brand and one model in particular which continues to hang on in our consciousness. The Denon D-M41DAB is a multi-Award-winning micro with bags of talent that continues to fly the flag for the form factor to this very day.

And I’m pleased to report that you can now bag this excellent system with 19% off the asking price at Amazon.

The D-M41DAB has been as low as £270 before, but that was way back in 2024. Last November, it was around the £300 mark, and while I think it could return there for Black Friday 2026, if you don’t want to wait, I still think £323 is a solid enough price, especially when it normally retails for £399.

The system comes with Denon’s own SC-M41 speakers, which, when we tested them, were superb partners for the Denon electronics. You are treated to a large soundstage and loads of detail. And getting them as part of this deal means you don’t have to worry about system matching and using a pair from a different brand.

In our Denon D-M41DAB review, we said the system was “impressive proof that great pound-for-pound hi-fi sound need not always mean several separate components” and that “the combination of low-end stability and dynamic sensibilities leaves us with a remarkably human performance for a hi-fi system at this price.” You can see why it’s won multiple back-to-back What Hi-Fi? In terms of features, there’s CD playback, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a headphone output, so everything you’d reasonably expect for the money. You also get a remote control included.

And the Denon is good enough to be your main system in a living room or a secondary set-up in a bedroom. The world really is your oyster with this talented package, which can be yours for £323 at Amazon.

The first instalment in the series (The Fellowship of the Ring) sees our meek protagonist Frodo's begin his perilous journey to make sure the powerful One Ring does not fall into the wrong hands. In the rest of the trilogy, we follow Frodo and his band of companions as he puts everything on the line to complete his quest.

The theatrical release runs for just under 9 hours, and the extended version comes in at over 11 hours. That's a lot of time to spend with our friends from the Shire.

I've watched the movies countless times, with both versions delivering a masterclass in world-building and drawing me into the magical land of Middle-earth.

You can find the standard versions of the films on HBO Max, but there's no sign of the extended releases on the streaming service. There is the option to buy or rent from other platforms such as Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV, but that does not have the same certainty as holding the discs in your hands.

And then there is the superior picture and sound quality to consider. Even the best streaming service cannot match a 4K Blu-ray's more detailed, sharper image and fuller-feeling audio.

So, if you are sick of searching for the full Lord of the Rings editions on streaming services, then this is a great solution, especially at such a good price of £60 at Amazon.

Is the Sonos Arc Ultra still the best wireless soundbar, especially for the Apple ecosystem?

It is, yes! At least on a performance-per-pound basis and if we’re purely talking solo bars.

The only similarly priced alternative worth considering is the Samsung HW-Q990F (the newer H is still quite a lot more expensive). That delivers a more complete and immersive Dolby Atmos experience – but it’s also a four-box system. The bar alone isn’t a match for the Sonos, and if music also matters, the Sonos is again the best choice.

If you have a bigger budget, here are some better-sounding alternatives:

• Sony Bravia Theatre Trio (three-box system)
• KEF XIO

Really, though, we recommend going for the Sonos Arc Utra, which can be expanded with additional speakers further down the line if required as well.

There’s currently no Prime Day deal on the Sonos Ac Ultra, unfortunately, but it’s well worth the money even at full price.

Is it worth upgrading from the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 to the Bronze 50 7G?

Yes, the Monitor Audio Bronze 50 7G is a worthy upgrade.

The Monitor Audio Bronze 2 are stunning standmounters, but the 50 7G are a proper step up in build quality and offer a very clear, precise and confident sound.

“For a speaker at this price level, the Bronze 7G are unusually precise and controlled,” our Monitor Audio Bronze 50 7G review reads. “They are really clear, fast and detailed, and grab you right from the start with a front-footed, vibrant presentation that can’t be ignored.”

The current best price for the Monitor Audio Bronze 50 7G is £449 at Peter Tyson, a nice £50 saving from their test price of £499.

What’s the best 55-inch OLED deal?

There has been one OLED TV that has pretty much dominated Prime Day 2026 – the multi-Award-winning LG C5.

All sizes have seen rock-bottom pricing, including the 55-inch model, which is currently available for £969 at Richer Sounds with the code RSTV30.

If your budget can stretch, there are more-premium 55-inch TVs on offer, but the C5 is easily the best-value deal – under a grand for an Award-winning OLED is awesome.

What’s the best Sony WH-1000XM5 deal?

They may have been superseded by the Sony WH-1000XM6, but the Sony WH-1000XM5 have been one of the most popular products this Prime Day – thanks in part to some rock-bottom prices.

The best Sony WF-1000XM6 price is currently £179 at Amazon – but you might want to be quick, as stock seems to be drying up!

Prime Day is in full swing, and our deal experts are still trawling through all the savings to bring you our top recommendations.

While the options aren’t as plentiful as they would be around Black Friday, with any big sales event, you’re always guaranteed some brands will lead the way in certain categories.

Build quality is robust, and they deliver impressive active noise cancellation for the money, too. Add a very decent 35 hours of battery life into the equation, and you can't go wrong, especially for £60 for the black finish.

Another affordable recommendation, the Sony WF-C710N are brilliant budget wireless earbuds. They are attractive, comfortable in-ears that give a fun yet mature performance for an amazing price. And that Glass Blue finish is an absolute stunner, in my eyes at least.

If you want the very best wireless headphones Sony has to offer, you have to go for the WH-1000XM6 this Prime Day. With stunning sound quality, excellent comfort, great portability, and brilliant noise-cancelling skills, these are the flagship wireless headphones to beat, especially at their discounted price

Alternatively, the best wireless earbuds currently in Sony’s stable are the magnificent WF-1000XM6, which have their first major price drop this Prime Day. In our five-star review, we praised their “breathtaking all-round performance”, which includes awesome noise-cancelling and super-clear call quality.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are five-star cans that won themselves a coveted What Hi-Fi? Award in 2024. This stunning pair offers great sonic clarity, a punchy delivery and precise, agile bass. Yes, the WH-1000XM6 are newer and perform better across the board, but they are much more expensive.

Proof that Sony doesn’t always get it right are the ULT Wear noise-cancelling headphones. Yes, they boast a less-than-half-price saving, but I wouldn’t rush out to snap them up. I don't really think the Sony ULT Wear are worth your cash – there are far finer alternatives available at this level (like the WH-CH720N) that offer a much more balanced and entertaining sound for the money.

And as the vinyl resurgence ploughs on, something of that sentiment can be felt in the kinds of products that are undergoing discounts as part of this year’s Prime Day sales.

Most vinyl enthusiasts will know the score: a beloved old turntable and an up-to-date, perfectly functional hi-fi system. Both are great things to have, but sometimes the sonic limitations of retro gear can stand out on more modern systems.

Alternately, you might have bought a budget turntable and have a pair of active desktop speakers, and now you need that crucial phono stage element to get them working together.

For those in either situation, this Cambridge Audio Alva Duo phono preamplifier is a discreet and inexpensive addition that will give your vinyl system the sonic upgrade it deserves. Why repeat, after all, when you can rhyme?

For any newbies to the world of turntables, adding this Duo phono stage to a pair of active speakers will make sure your records are conveyed with a smooth, full-bodied sound.

Admittedly, our current favourite phono stage, the Rega Fono MM Mk5, will provide a punchier and more rhythmically precise sound for a similar price, but it lacks some of the extra features that make the Duo so irresistible.

Most of the budget to mid-price turntables that we would recommend using the Duo alongside will be likely to use an moving-magnet cartridge as standard, but if you wanted to explore moving-coil options at any point, the Duo allows you to expand your horizons. A word of warning, though: MC cartridges tend to be a lot pricier.

Whether your hooking up a desktop vinyl system or refreshing a golden oldie, we think this deal is worth serious consideration. With a stylish look, dynamic sound and great features, the Alva Duo could be yours for a deal price of £249 from Amazon, Richer Sounds and Cambridge Audio.

Remember when tech used to get cheaper throughout its life span? Those were the glory days; but that all seems to be in the past now.

Apple is the latest company to hop on the trend of upping prices on its older products. It has just rolled out a fairly egregious swathe of updated pricing on its hi-fi and home cinema offerings; we think it’s fair to say that this is really not good news.

The Apple TV 4K now starts at £199 / $199 / AU$299 (originally £149 / $130 / AU$219) for the 64GB version, or £249 / $249 / AU$399 (originally £169 / $179 / $249) for the 128GB with ethernet. And this, we remind you, is the 2022 version, so it has been on the market for almost four years now.

The HomePod range hasn’t got off lightly either. The HomePod 2 now costs £349 / $349 / AU$549 – up from £299 / $299 / AU$479 – while the HomePod Mini (which launched in 2020 and hasn’t really been updated since) is now £129 / $129 / AU$199, up from £99 / $99 / AU$149.

There are price hikes across Apple’s iPad and Mac devices too.

The only products that appear to be mostly untouched are the iPhones and AirPods ranges; in fact, it looks like the AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC have dropped by £10 for both models.

If you had been holding out in the hope of new models launching – rumours of a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod with a display have been circulating for years – you might be better off pulling the trigger and snapping up the current-gen models from the retailers that haven't yet caught on to the price increases.

We have rounded up the retailers from the UK, US and Australia that are still selling these products for their original prices at the time of writing.

Boy howdy, what a doozy of a deal.

Of all of the wireless headphones deals we've seen this Prime Day, this has to be one of the very best. The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 are just £255 at Amazon, a colossal saving of £144 that far outstrips any deal we've thus seen on the five-star wireless over-ears.

You'll have to get them in a rather stylish white colourway to get the lowest price possible, but that's hardly a great loss – white finishes are so in right now.

The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 are some of the best wireless headphones we've had the pleasure of testing in the last few year, impressing in terms of both style and substance.

First launching in April 2025, it's not surprising to see discounts creep in as the good-looking over-ears approach roughly one-and-a-half years of life, but a £144 saving at Amazon is by far the best deal we've seen yet Hey, thank Prime Day for that..

While we've awarded the Px7 S3 the top spot for being best for style, being really, really, ridiculously good-looking is not all they have to offer. They're also lovely to listen to and packed with great features, even if the ANC could reasonably be quite a bit better.

As we wrote in our review: "The Px7 S3 really are exceptionally refined and detailed headphones. They drop you deep into a performance, breaking the boundary between you and your music and insisting that you become a part of the experience, a little like a mate at a gig who ushers you ever-closer towards the stage."

Thanks to their cannily-positioned eight-mic array, the Px7 S3 deliver a reasonably solid barrier between you and the outside world.

While their biggest rivals, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Sony XM6 block out sound a little more competently, these Bowers do a decent enough job, and at this price, they're now considerably cheaper than the XM6, and a lot better looking.

Their features also impress at this price point, with aptX Lossless and Adaptive Bluetooth support and a respectable 30-hour battery life with ANC on, while Bluetooth Multipoint makes switching between multiple connected source devices as easy as falling off a log.

For anyone looking for the convenience of wireless and ANC without giving up too much when it comes to sound quality, the B&W Px7 S3 are easy to recommend, especially now that they're just £255 at Amazon.

Within the world of technology, there is often a misguided notion that newer always means better.

That is certainly true in the world of TV, especially with OLED sets. And OLED is a key tech on which readers, friends, family and random passers by often ask us for advice.

That has been especially true during this year’s Prime Day, when more than a couple of people have asked if there are any decent deals going on the two big-name flagship sets we recently reviewed – the five-star LG G6 and Samsung S99H.

If you’re dead to rights hellbent on one of them being your next TV, then I am pleased to report that, yes, there are deals running on both.

The best I have spotted is Richer Sounds’ deal on the 55-inch S99H. You can grab the 55-inch Samsung S99H for £2149 right now, if you use the TRADE250 code at checkout. You can then save a further £250 by claiming cashback from Samsung after purchase, letting you grab the cutting-edge set for £1899.

For the LG G6, numerous retailers, including Peter Tyson and Richer Sounds, have lopped £400 off the set’s original asking price, letting you grab one for £2099.

Both, in isolation, are pretty good deals, considering how recently the two TVs launched. But they’re not the TVs I, or any of the home cinema reviews team, would recommend right now.

Yes, they are top performers. The Samsung S99H in particular is a brilliant set that we describe as “the best Samsung has ever made”. We don’t give praise like that lightly.

The problem is that, even discounted, the S99H and G6 are expensive luxuries that are considerably pricier than a key rival, the Sony Bravia 8 II.

Our current Product of the Award winner, the Sony Bravia 8 II, is on sale at Richer Sounds for £1699, when you use the discount code, RSTV100, at checkout. That makes it £200 cheaper than the Samsung and £300 less than the LG.

Despite being older, the Bravia 8 II is still extremely competitive – we ran it against the G6 and S99H when we reviewed the new sets.

The upgrades offered by the S99H and G6 are limited to a smidge more peak-brightness here, a tad more colour-volume there. Even then, the Sony occasionally beats its newer rivals, offering a touch more dark detail and bit more finesse with its contrast in certain scenes. And that’s before we start talking about its better audio.

All of which helps to explain why we don’t tend to recommend buying the latest OLED TVs so soon after launch.

Year-on-year upgrades tend to be incremental (though there are exceptions to this rule). Still, TV makers launch new sets with incredibly high starting RRPs, just as the older models are plummeting in price.

And that’s the point we’re at with the S99H and G6. If you really want one of these sets rather than the older Bravia 8 II, we recommend waiting until later in the year, when the newer sets’ prices will almost certainly have dropped a little deeper. This usually happens in November, around Black Friday.

Until then, I strongly suggest looking at the much cheaper Sony Bravia 8 II. It represents significantly better value right now.

Sony is always good for a Prime Day deal, and this year has been no exception. We've spotted the lowest-ever price on the WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds, but if you're just getting into the world of vinyl, there's also a significant saving to be had on Sony's outstanding PS-LX3BT Bluetooth turntable.

The affordable deck is perfect for anyone dipping their toe into the sea of vinyl for the first time, and with the excellent plug 'n play spinner falling from £299 to £223 at Amazon, now is the time to strike.

The PS-LX3BT is such an easy to use turntable that we'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to dip their toe into vinyl waters.

Its automatic operation means you don’t even need to adjust the tonearm, while playing and stopping tracks is made easy via ‘start’ and ‘stop’ buttons respectively. Once your record has reached its end, the arm will automatically return to its resting start position, so you barely have to touch it at all.

Speaking of tonearms, the Sony deck features an aluminium model with a precision pivot bearing, as well as an aluminium die-cast platter and a rubber mat. You also get a pre-fitted moving magnet cartridge with a tracking force of 3.5g, but as there’s no quick way to remove it from the tonearm, your options for upgrading are limited.

The PS-LX3BT offers Bluetooth streaming with support for the aptX Adaptive codec for hi-res streaming up to 24-bit/96kHz to compatible Bluetooth speakers and wireless headphones. That's a great bonus if you have, say, a JBL Charge 6 or Flip 7 knocking around and want quick and simple streaming to impress your mates.

Impress is the word. Within a proper hi-fi setup, the PS-LX3BT sounds punchy, alive and focused, with a balance that blends muscle and drive with enough space to give your music room to breathe. Affordable Bluetooth record players can often sound compromised, especially at the cheaper end of the market, but that's not a criticism we could level at this Sony.

All in all, an excellent starter point for users seeking a lethal blend of performance, usability and flexibility. Check it out at Amazon this Prime Day.

So it has been gratifying to see one of our recent recommendations climbing the charts of Amazon’s best-selling TVs – namely the TCL Q6C, now discounted to £529 at Amazon as one of the many Prime Day deals.

And while I am pleased, I’m definitely not surprised. The UK public clearly knows a good deal when they see one – not only is this a new lowest price on an already great value TV, but it’s also one of, if not the, top budget choice for playing a little game called GTA 6.

So what makes the TCL Q6C such great value? The headline is that you get a 65-inch TV with Quantum Dot colours and a sophisticated Mini-LED backlight system with local dimming for only £529.

This is technology we usually see in TVs that cost far more than this, resulting in a picture far more sophisticated than you might expect at the price.

We were particularly impressed by the TV’s contrast and black-level performance. Dark scenes look surprisingly deep and convincing – more so than some far more expensive TVs – while bright HDR highlights have real punch.

“Colours impress, too,” our TCL Q6C review reads. “There’s more vibrancy and lustre on tap than we usually see with such affordable TVs, yet at the same time, in most presets, the impressive vibrancy doesn’t look forced or unnatural.

“Skin tones look believable, there’s practically zero HDR colour striping, and subtle shading differences are rendered with enough finesse to ensure that even the most colourful images feel three-dimensional and realistic.”

Gamers are exceptionally well catered for when GTA 6 arrives this November. We still await the specification for Rockstar’s long-awaited game, but the Q6C supports 4K/144Hz (including the current console cap of 4K/120Hz) gaming on its two HDMI 2.1 sockets, as well as VRR and low input lag.

There are plenty of extra features to enhance your trip to Leonida, with a gaming menu that can add a superimposed crosshair, magnify the minimap or enhance shadow details to make enemies easier to see. The Q6C also comes with support for Superwide aspect ratios, should GTA 6 support them once it finally comes to PC.

The Q6C’s sound is also better than that of most, if not all, other TVs in its price class – but it would still be improved vastly by a soundbar. Our best budget soundbars guide can help there.

The human conscience is a funny thing. Most of us, I suspect, can relate to how easy it is to know something is wrong and go on doing it on a regular basis, regardless.

But in this age of convenience, I am starting to feel my moral concessions piling up. Every day, there are a number of things I do that are inarguably within my power to change... and to change fairly easily, at that.

And so, starting with the small things, I'm trying to act.

To get started, I'm targeting music streaming. Specifically, I'm moving away from it.

Since streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music became available, as a music fan, I have fallen for the model hook, line and sinker. Millions of songs at my fingertips, for only a tenner or £12 per monthly subscription. No wonder it's the dominant way we listen to music now.

But as someone with many musician friends, I have seen first-hand the impact that certain platforms' revenue models have on the way musicians are – or more accurately, are not – reimbursed for their art.

I did indulge in a modest turntable set up at home, but with physical media often seeming too expensive these days, I've found myself reluctant to make the leap entirely.

That's why, this Prime Day, I've been on the hunt for a vinyl deal that will equip me with a library that doesn't consist solely of second hand Dire Straits and Simon and Garfunkel records. Nothing wrong with either artist, but I'm looking for some diversity.

Thankfully, for those in my situation, HMV is running a multi-buy deal in which you can buy three vinyl records for £66.

I know this discount might not sound like much, but with many vinyl records' full prices sitting at £40 and beyond, this deal has the potential to cut the cost of your record collection in half.

What's more, the selection on offer at HMV is vast. Much more so than what's available at Amazon, which barely has any deals on vinyl records or CDs this year.

While browsing, I spotted a number of the What Hi-Fi? review team's favourite classic albums, including Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, Radiohead's In Rainbows and Jeff Buckley's Grace, alongside more contemporary titles such as Geese's Getting Killed and Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving.

Among the most expensive records involved in the deal are The Cure's Show at £49.99, The Verve's red vinyl edition of A Northern Soul at £45.99, and Elliott Smith's Figure 8 at £43.99. On those three records alone, you could make a whopping saving of £73.97 with this HMV offer.

This is a fantastic deal for anyone looking to add some big name titles to their record collection, and also a great way to invest in the artists making the music you love.

Don't worry if you didn't understand a word of that. Wired earbuds might be coming back among Gen-Z listeners and celebrity influencers, but this is a trend that everyone should be a part of. The SoundMagic E11C are no-fuss budget wired headphones that punch well above their weight. If you're looking to get on board with the wired trend (and you should be, by the way), they're the perfect place to start.

Budget they may be, but the E11C are surprisingly well-made, with a solid, sleek design complemented by a choice of small, medium and large silicone tips and an in-line remote.

In case you need reminding, they have the standard 3.5mm headphone cable connection, so you’ll need a dreaded dongle for connecting to USB-C or Apple Lightning ports. That's part of the 'retro' charm, right?

In terms of sonic performance, the E11C are a delight. They're sparky and peppy headphones that go big on detail and clarity, offering an entertaining sound that really delivers when it comes to putting the pep into your music's step. At this kind of price, we can't think of much better, though the SoundMagic E80D are also worth considering if you want a USB-C-ended alternative.

As we concluded in our review: "The E11C in-ears continue the fine work of their predecessors and deliver an entertaining, upfront sound, complete with a remote control and mic".

This isn’t my first Prime Day rodeo.

After covering more Amazon-led sales events than I care to count, I always bet on the company to discount its range of first-party AV devices, and for good reason, too.

The company practically always slashes the prices of its Fire TV range of devices, and my advice (even when reviewing them at full price) is to wait until a Prime Day or Black Friday sale to get the best deal.

In fact, during our Prime Day predictions roundup (spearheaded by our deals aficionado Daniel Furn), I said that I'd "eat my proverbial hat" if the Fire TV streaming sticks aren't heavily discounted.

Luckily for me, there will be no hat eating, as the Award-winning Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) is currently enjoying a pretty tasty discount.

Tongue twister of a name aside, this super-effective streamer offers up a simple proposition: you give it one of your TV’s HDMI sockets, and in return you get a pretty potent streaming upgrade.

We reviewed it at £70, making it one of the most affordable (if not the most affordable) products to enter our AV testing room, but you’ll find that price has been drastically reduced in the UK and the US.

We said that the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) “might just be the easiest no-brainer buy in the AV world,” in our full review, and with its price slashed in half, it somehow becomes even easier to recommend.

We approved of its detailed and rich picture, comprehensive coverage of all HDR formats, and impressive range of streaming apps on offer; it really is the full streaming package.

Our review highlights a "sharp and engaging picture", with excellent motion and a balanced approach to colours. It also sounds good, with a clear approach to dialogue, and music sounds warmer and more detailed compared to the competing Google TV Streamer.

Now, in an era of smart TVs, a dedicated streaming device may sound like a pointless recommendation. Still, we've found that you can get tangible picture and sound improvements by plugging in a dedicated streamer.

We've also tested plenty of projectors that don't have streaming platforms built in, and our advice to anyone suffering with a sluggish, older 4K TV who isn't ready to upgrade yet is to invest in a streaming stick (like the Fire TV Stick 4K Max) for a smoother experience.

At a discounted price of £40 on Amazon UK or $35 at Amazon US, this streamer is the perfect choice for those wanting a Prime Day treat without breaking the bank.

Wasn’t it Joni Mitchell who said, “you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone”?

We can be fairly certain she wasn’t talking about Prime Day deals back in 1970, but with a reduction like this on a decent pair of floorstanding speakers, we are feeling inclined to heed her advice, anyway.

The B&W 603 S3 are currently at a Prime Day discount of £500, available for £1499 from Sevenoaks, Peter Tyson and Richer Sounds.

In previous sales, these speakers have sold out fast, so we recommend acting quickly if this sounds like the bargain for you.

The 603 S3 are the largest and most costly speakers in Bowers & Wilkins’ 600 series. They use a titanium-dome tweeter, B&W’s custom 15cm Continuum midrange cone, and a pair of 16.5cm paper bass drivers to deliver a “robust” and “full” sound.

With a more powerful motor assembly for their midrange driver, which uses a vibration-suppressing foam in pursuit of purer, clearer sound, the 603 S3 have seen tech trickle down from B&W’s more expensive 700 series.

It is worth noting that these are some formidably proportioned speakers. Measuring 102cm tall, they are ideal for anyone looking to fill a room with an attractive, if bulky speaker set-up.

Thankfully, we feel the B&Ws warrant the space they take up. In our review of the 603 S3, we say that the drive and power of these speakers would “please anyone looking for their music to enjoy a whole load of weight and muscle”.

Throughout testing, they provided detail and nuance, while also contributing clarity, focus and robust bass. These speakers showed no shortage of authority and control.

However, we awarded the 603 S3 four stars at review, due to the superior dynamism of the similarly priced PMC Prodigy 5.

But the Prodigy 5 are still selling for £1995 – and that, to our mind, puts the Bowers & Wilkins ahead as a significantly more affordable option.

If you’re looking for a large set of speakers with a similarly substantial sound, the 603 S3 just might be the pair for you. They are available for £1499 from Sevenoaks, Peter Tyson and Richer Sounds.

How to choose the right speakers and get the best sound

If you’re looking for a new OLED TV over Prime Day, you will be pleased to learn that the five-star LG C6 we christened “the firm’s finest step-down model to date” mere weeks ago has had its price slashed.

Right now you can grab a 55-inch LG C6 for £1427.98 at Amazon. That is a solid £371.02 saving on the TV’s launch price.

But, before you go rushing to grab one, I’d urge you to check out the even better deal I have spotted on the older LG C5. You can pick one up on Amazon for £906.09. That’s a solid £993.91 saving on its launch RRP and the best price we have seen for it.

Why pick the LG C5 when the C6 offers a performance upgrade? It’s a good question, especially when our reviewers reported:

“[The LG C6] is a big upgrade by C-series standards. We don’t typically get too excited about processor upgrades, but the Alpha 11 Gen 3 has forced a brighter and richer performance out of the same OLED EX panel technology, and improved upscaling and shading subtlety. The extra brightness and richness have benefits across the picture, resulting in a more enticing, dynamic and three-dimensional delivery.”

The answer comes down to another key metric we always factor into our buying advice: value for money.

Yes, the C6 offers improvements on the C5. But, having run the two head to head in our test rooms, we don’t think they currently justify the difference in price. £423 is a lot of money, especially during a cost of living crisis. Even if you do have the spare cash, we can think of a better investment that will fix both TVs’ biggest weakness: their middling audio.

Neither set offers good enough audio quality for a truly immersive home cinema experience. So, even if you do have the cash to buy the C6 right now, we still recommend investing in the LG C5 and then using the money you have saved to buy a decent Dolby Atmos soundbar.

If you pull the trigger now, the five-star Sony Bravia Theatre System 6 featured in our best Dolby Atmos soundbars guide is selling for £399 at Amazon (save £150) right now. It will match wonderfully with the LG C5.

That price will even leave you with enough cash to invest in a cold pint, or iced coffee, to help get through the heatwave…

A pair of Sony headphones for £100 off? Normally we'd be recommending that you throw caution to the wind, boot up that laptop, stretch your clicking finger and get those cans into your digital basket, because that sounds, on paper, like a Prime Day deal worth taking.

This is one of the rare instances, however, when we'd advise you to look elsewhere. The Sony ULT Wear are a rare misfire from Sony, and while they're down from £180 to just £88 on Amazon, we just don't feel that they're worth your time. Save your cash and pick up a pair of five-star alternatives (listed below, obviously) instead.

Hooray, a pair of heavily discounted Sony headphones! They’ve got noise cancelling, a comfortable design, loads of high-performance Sony features and a majorly knocked down right, so what exactly isn’t there to love?

The problem is that the ULT Wear don’t sound as good as we had hoped. In fact, they are a rare sonic misfire for Sony, with a sound that sounds either too enthusiastic and bass-heavy, or simply too lacking in the basics of dynamics and detail to have us singing their praises. Great Sony headphones abound at the moment, but sadly, the ULT Wear are quite a long way from greatness.

Consider these alternatives instead

Streaming services have been a hot-button issue in the home cinema world for a few years now.

Once seen as a revolutionary new way to enjoy films instantly at affordable prices, all without the commitment of a costly TV contract package, the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ have all thoroughly worn away the goodwill they'd accrued in the past.

With constant monthly price increases, features being stripped away and locked behind higher subscription tiers, and content constantly bouncing between services, it's understandable why people are sick and tired of streaming.

Most importantly, it's inspiring a resurgence of popularity for physical media, and as a (perhaps slightly too keen) 4K Blu-ray enthusiast, I couldn't be happier.

The issue is that 4K Blu-rays aren't exactly cheap. New releases tend to cost between £20 and £30, and that's not taking into account the special edition steelbook versions, box sets, or limited releases.

I confess it's not a cheap hobby, but I have found a Prime Day deal that takes the edge off slightly.

Popular UK entertainment retailer HMV is running a deal in which you can buy three 4K Blu-rays for £50 currently, which is actually a bigger deal than it looks.

Yes, £50 isn't a snip when compared to the most basic Netflix package at £5.99/month, but think of all the sacrifices you're making with that. No 4K, no HDR, no Dolby Atmos, and no offline viewing; basically, serious ciniphiles need not apply.

The benefit here is that you can enjoy and keep your favourite movies in much higher quality. As someone who is constantly switching between streaming and watching films on 4K Blu-ray, trust me when I say the difference is noticeable; details are sharper, there's less banding, and audio feels fuller and richer in most cases.

I also value being able to keep copies of my favourite movies so that I can watch them at any time. Hunting down a film that used to be on one streaming service only to find it's moved to another, or even removed entirely, is always a frustrating task.

HMV's offer doesn't include all of the 4K Blu-rays on its site, but there are loads to choose from.

I've spotted a handful of favourites from our AV testing room, including Blade Runner 2049, The Batman, Interstellar, Dune: Part Two, and Oppenheimer, as well as more recent releases such as Sinners, Weapons, The Fantastic Four and Tron: Ares.

You'll find titles from the 007 franchise, the Star Wars series, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, too. And it seems like most, if not all, of these titles are individually priced between £20 and £25, so stacking up three gives you a saving of anywhere between £10 and £20.

This is a great deal for anyone looking to start a 4K Blu-ray collection, as you can hit the ground running with three titles straight away.

As well as the best Dolby Atmos scenes to test your home cinema setup

It must be tough when the spotlight of deals is snatched away from you during your own sales event.

Case in point, this Samsung HW-Q990F deal at B&Q, which takes the price from £1699, all the way down to just £695. That is an unbelievable discount, especially for an Award-winning, multitalented soundbar system such as this.

Now, we'll admit that B&Q isn't our usual go-to retailer for home cinema kit, but this discount shows that it's well worth looking way beyond Amazon's scope to secure the best deal.

For reference, the same soundbar package is currently sitting around the £750 mark on Amazon (there seems to be a few different listings at different prices), whereas Richer Sounds is asking £799 for it.

B&Q, it looks like you're good for more than just DIY and gardening...

Samsung's Award-winning HW-Q990F offers genuine surround sound without having to clutter your living room with cables.

The system is made up of a main soundbar unit that connects directly to your TV via HDMI eARC, as well as two wireless surround sound speakers that are designed to be placed adjacent to or behind your seating position, and a wireless subwoofer.

There are dedicated upward-firing drivers in both the soundbar and surround speakers for proper Dolby Atmos height effects, and the system as a whole features 15 drivers in total for an 11.1.4 setup.

While we loved the spacious, rich and detailed sound it provided during our thorough testing process, we found that the redesigned subwoofer was the star of the show. Samsung says it has a power output of 300W, and with bass this punchy and deep, we can believe that claim.

Not only does it sound great, but setup is a breeze, and it's feature-packed too. Practically every wireless streaming method is supported – from Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, to AirPlay 2 and Amazon Music – and you can pass signals in up to 4K/120Hz with Dolby Vision or HDR10+ via the HDMI 2.1 passthrough socket.

If you want surround sound without the hassle of hiding cables, then the Samsung HW-Q990F is a no-brainer.

Especially if you're thinking of buying it from B&Q for £695. We've never seen it drop this low before, and with most competing retailers selling it for considerably more money, we think B&Q's deal is probably the best we've ever seen on this soundbar.

If anything, this is a lesson for those on the hunt for a bargain; it pays to look further afield this Prime Day.

The Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT is a budget Bluetooth turntable done right, and it's back down to its lowest price thanks to Prime Day.

Well, sort of. Down from £479, you can get the T1 Evo BT for £399 at Richer Sounds, although if you do want to do the whole Prime Day thing, you can get the same deck from Amazon for £439. Ironic, then, that the best deal this Prime Day is from a non-Amazon site...

The Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT is an appealing, accessible and fuss-free Bluetooth turntable. In fact, it even makes an appearance on our best turntables guide as the best Bluetooth turntable we recommend.

It's ideal for beginners, as the T1 Evo BT is one of the easier turntables to set up. You'll have to fit the platter, mat, belt and dust cover yourself, but this is hardly a tricky task even if you've never done it before.

As the name suggests, Bluetooth 5.0, which can be toggled on or off via a switch on the right-hand side, is supported. Connecting to Bluetooth headphones and speakers is easy and seamless, resulting in a solid, stable sound, as a result.

A phono stage is built in for those looking to reduce costs, but there are line-out terminals if you'd rather outsource such duties to an amplifier or standalone phono preamp. Support for 33 ⅓ and 45 RPM speed settings means you have a plethora of options with that £20 vinyl credit.

We've waited 13 agonising years for GTA VI to finally hit consoles.

After what's felt like a never-ending onslaught of leaks, delays, and speculation, we're officially less than six months away from what could be the biggest gaming launch in history.

While securing a copy is top priority – pre-orders start at midnight tonight – I'm taking the release of this hotly anticipated title as an excuse to level up my gaming setup, and what better time to do it than during Amazon Prime Day?

I've found the ideal gaming TV, a soundbar system that will put you in the centre of the action, and a console that should not only be powerful enough to handle GTA VI but also ensure that the high-resolution, neon-adorned streets of Vice City shine in glorious 4K.

Regarding the console, I recommend the Sony PS5 Pro. We haven't reviewed it yet, but its dedicated upscaling feature leads us to believe that it will offer extra headroom for the expected demanding graphical requirements of GTA VI.

Sonos Beam Gen 2

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 holds the crown as the top entry-level Dolby Atmos bar in our best soundbars guide.

The Beam Gen 2 measures just 7 x 65 x 10cm (hwd) and weighs 2.8kg, making it easy to place in front of your TV without obscuring the picture. Under the hood, you will find four front-facing elliptical mid-woofers and a centre tweeter.

Most importantly, it offers a detailed, rich, and enveloping audio experience, which is particularly impressive considering its compact footprint.

Despite the bar’s lack of up-firing drivers, the soundfield is immersive and we get a good sense of height as well as scale. In fact, we note in our review: “Whether it’s a chirping bird, a car or a voice, there’s remarkable consistency across the complete soundfield, and seamless handover between drivers, which we have to say doesn’t always happen when a Dolby Atmos soundbar has upward drivers to contend with.”

It launched at £449, but this Prime Day deal has seen its price drop to £337 at Amazon. That’s a saving of £112, and is well worth considering if you are looking to add an Atmos soundbar to your system.

Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9

If you are looking for a step-up soundbar to add to your system, then the Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 is hard to beat. This Sony sounds exceptionally crisp and precise, and the Atmos-ness of its delivery is hugely impressive for a standalone bar.

We find there is a slightly clinical tone in its overall delivery, but its superb detail and punch mean it still achieves five-star success.

In terms of connectivity, gaming fans will be pleased to hear that the Bar 9 has a dedicated HDMI 2.1 input and support for 4K/120Hz, VRR and ALLM.

You can find it for £999 at Richer Sounds, chopping £400 off its launch price. At this price, it is also worth considering the Award-winning Sonos Arc Ultra. It’s a brilliant-sounding system, offering a rich overall sound with expressive vocals.

It features only a single HDMI eARC port, however, which is not as comprehensive as the Theatre Bar 9’s offerings. The Sonos model is currently available at its launch price of £999 at Smart Home Sounds, but we have our fingers crossed for a reduction before the end of Prime Day.

Hisense AX5125H

All-in-one soundbars work excellently for some people, but you might be craving that extra sense of immersion that can come with a soundbar package. And our top budget soundbar system recommendation is currently available for an absolute steal.

You can pick up the Award-winning Hisense AX5125H for just £199 at Currys, making it easily one of the best-sounding affordable soundbar systems we have heard.

The 5.1.2 system, which supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, offers a relatively compact design that is easy to accommodate in most homes. It is made up of two small wireless surround speakers, a wireless subwoofer and the main soundbar. Even though the surround speakers are surprisingly compact (each one measures just 14 x 9 x 11cm), they produce an impressively enveloping soundfield that massively improves upon our experience with the TV’s sound.

We noted in our review when watching Civil War: “Bullets whizz from the front to the back of the room and even behind the listening position, helicopters hover at ceiling height, and distant explosions rumble menacingly.”

Vocals are clear and sound relatively emotive too, although the subwoofer can get a little overzealous and cause them to become muffled in the busiest sections. Still, the Hisense system is a top performer in its class and is even more tempting at this discount.

Samsung HW-Q990F

Finally, we have the Samsung HW-Q990F, an Award-winning 11.1.4 soundbar package. Like the Hisense system, it is made up of a soundbar, a subwoofer, and two surround speakers.

It is a chunkier system in terms of its build, though. The surrounds, for instance, measure 25 x 25 x 25cm and the soundbar comes in at a more hefty 7 x 123 x 14cm (hwd).

With support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, we were impressed by the soundbar’s ability to create that all-important dome of sound as well as ensuring the sound moves organically between the channels.

When it comes to its bass performance, we say in our review: “There is a much greater sense of tonal variation from this subwoofer [compared with the older Q990D model], which unearths a new layer to the bass. The Q990F’s bass feels more organic, balanced, and seamlessly integrated into the system as a result.”

That all makes it a focused, tonally varied overall sound that immerses us in whatever we listen to. You can find the system for £750 at Amazon, saving you around a whopping £949 off its original price.

We recently reviewed the Q990F’s successor – the Samsung HW-Q990H. This new system managed to build upon our favourite aspects of the older model, resulting in an even more detailed and nuanced performance. That meant the Q990H took the crown when we put them head to head – but the Q990F is without doubt still a brilliant performer in the category.

Plus, the Q990H's price has dropped only a small amount for Prime Day (the cheapest we have seen so far is £1299 at Amazon). That makes the older model all the more tempting.

I have been happily rocking a pair of the four-star Beyerdynamic Aventho 300 as my go-to pair of wireless headphones for a while now.

For me, they’re great, and I am more than happy with them. But, after a few readers got in touch asking if they should take advantage of Amazon’s current Aventho 300 deal, which lets you grab a pair for £239 (saving £120), my answer is, probably not.

Instead, I would point most people to Amazon’s current deal on the five-star Sony WH-1000XM6, which lets you pick up a pair for £236 (save £164).

That’s not because the Aventho 300 and I have fallen out of love and are on a break. They are fantastic, wonderfully unassuming headphones with a sonic profile that will truly delight any listener who values composure and balance, even if it means they might be a little clinical. That’s why I love them.

For most people, however, there’s a reason we scored the Sony WH-1000XM6 higher and gave them a What Hi-Fi? Award. Their sonic profile is more entertaining and packed with detail, and will please a wider audience of listeners than the Aventho 300.

They also offer better ANC, which again is a big factor that gives them more mass appeal. We said as much in our reviews of the two headphones.

For example, here is our WH-1000XM6 verdict:

“Sony’s wireless headphones deliver a performance more than befitting a flagship pair of wireless headphones. Comfort levels are great, they’re nice to use, ANC is excellent, call quality is class-leading, and sound quality can match anything at this level. Simply sensational.”

Whereas in our Aventho 300 review we reported:

“The Beyerdynamic Aventho 300 won’t be for everyone [...] That said, these are really solid performers for the money, that resist the urge to impose their will on your music and instead step back and allow your tunes room to shine.”

We stand by those statements. Which is why, generally, I recommend that most buyers should opt for the Sony WH-1000XM6, even though I am personally very fond of my Aventho 300.

I love listening to music and podcasts on planes, especially as a way to lull myself to sleep.

Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, with the drone of the plane engine, chattering of fellow passengers and general hubbub piercing through my music and my personal fortress of solitude.

Luckily, I’ve found an effective and affordable solution: the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (2024), now only £105 at Amazon.

Bose has long proved itself to be the master of noise-cancelling, and its expertise is clear to see in these excellent earbuds.

Finding a good balance between good noise-cancelling and affordability is always tricky – but Bose’s entry-level ANC earbuds impress for the price.

“Time and again, Bose’s noise-cancelling has proved itself to be a cut above the competition and the QuietComfort Earbuds don’t disappoint,” our Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (2024) review reads. “They do a very good job of eliminating mid- and low-frequency drones and rumbles.”

Having tested them in a busy train carriage, we’re pleased to report that rumbles were dampened down and chatter nicely subdued.

However, there’s more to the QuietComfort Earbuds than noise cancelling – as evidenced by their What Hi-Fi? Award.

The brilliant buds sound great too, which is rather important given that other sounds will be blocked out.

“If it’s drive and musicality you’re after, then the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (2024) deliver in spades,” our review reads. “They’re powerful and punchy performers that build an entertaining sound on the foundations of robust low frequencies, an expressive midrange and controlled highs.”

The design might be a bit stocky, but we found that Bose’s carefully engineered ear tips and stability bands to deliver a comfortable and secure fit.

Battery life impresses too, with 8.5 hours from a single charge and an extra 21 hours from the case – enough for even the longest flights. Wireless charging is included too!

To top it all off, the earbuds include Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint connectivity and IPX4 water resistance. For £105 at Amazon, this really is a bargain for an Award-winning pair of earbuds – one that could prove a lifesaver during a particularly noisy flight.

If you have a bit more of a budget, do consider these alternatives too:

If you're seeking a five-star stereo amplifier for under £500 this Prime Day, you could do a lot worse than the Marantz PM6007. A former and multiple What Hi-Fi? Award-winner, the PM6007 comes packed with pedigree and heaps of acclaim, all for a price that's been slashed heavily in the sales.

We tested the PM6007 at £499, but as it's been around a few years, that figure has gone down to £399 at Amazon, as well as Richer Sounds, Peter Tyson and Sevenoaks. That's a stunning £100 saving on a very fine piece of hi-fi gear.

Best Marantz stereo amplifier Prime Day deal

When reviewed the Marantz PM6007, we awarded it five stars across the board for its excellent feature set, bold sound and substantial build quality. It's not easy to get the full set of five stars across all criteria, and it ultimately led to the PM6007 becoming an esteemed Award winner and a firm favourite among our test team.

At the time, we described its sound as "smooth, full-bodied and balanced, with a pleasing spaciousness", and none of that has changed in the intervening years. Back when it cost a still-decent £499, we claimed it was "about as agreeable a performer as you could ask for at this price", so a drop to £399 only brings such acclaim into even sharper relief.

The five-star stereo amp offers 45 watts per channel and offers a range of inputs, including two pairs of stereo RCA inputs, support for a moving magnet phono stage, plus coaxial and optical inputs.

During our tests, we were impressed by the performance of the amp's internal DAC, the headphone output, and the phono stage, with all three proving to be strong components that didn't compromise on sonic punch and musicality.

The PM60007 doesn't have a USB input or Bluetooth, but there is a subwoofer output if you're looking to add some low-end muscle. The front panel of the PM6007 features a 6.3mm headphone jack and the usual equalisation, source selection and volume controls, as you'd expect.

If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful deal under £50, you've got plenty to choose from. Nearly all of Amazon's Fire TV Sticks are enjoying a discount this week, but I've highlighted the HD version as it's the cheapest – just £16.99!

If you want 4K picture and Dolby Atmos, you can spend a little more for the five-star Fire TV Stick 4K Max for £38.

If we're sticking with Amazon, you can't go wrong with this 45% discount on the latest (and best) 5th Generation Echo Dot smart speaker. It's nicely made, Alexa is useful and it sounds decent, too.

Sony's headphones are having a fantastic week of discounts, but I've stuck with the very cheapest options here. The five-star WH-CH520 on-ear headphones are a robust on-ear pair that gets the basics right for just £30 (!); spend a little more and you'll gain the noise-cancelling talents of the What Hi-Fi? Award-winning CH720N model – both offer really enjoyable sound quality for very little money.

If you or your kids have been eyeing up a pair of AirPods, the standard AirPods 4 (without eartips) are the cheapest option yet under £100 – a pretty good bargain considering how expensive Apple products tend to be.

The AirPods with ANC are also on sale, but we would point you two the great alternatives from Bose and Sennheiser here if you're looking to spend between £100-£150. Both offer great sound, high comfort levels and decent battery life – it's simply a matter of preference, but you'll be well served with either option.

JBL's Flip 6 Bluetooth speaker is another great bargain we'd encourage you to snap up – its detailed, dynamic sound and excellent rhythmic ability alongside a rugged, portable build make them great to use outdoors (and indoors).

Don't think you can't get a proper hi-fi deal with such strict budget limits! The iFi Go Blu is a tiny portable DAC that you can put in your pocket to help boost the sound quality from your smartphone or laptop, and you can use wireless and wired headphones with it. For just £129, it's a great little audio gadget.

Spend a little more – but still keeping things under £200 – and you can nab the What Hi-Fi? Award-winning WiiM Pro Plus music streamer that we recommend during every sales period. It will imbue your old hi-fi system with cutting-edge streaming powers, and is so slick and easy to use.

For AV fans, Xgimi's adorable little Vibe One portable projector is fantastic option even at full price. It delivers a detailed, natural picture with good dark levels – ideal for impromptu late-night movies and World Cup watch parties in the garden.

We are big fans of the Technics EAH-AZ100 wireless earbuds. So much so, that at the end of last year, our editor in chief wrote an article about how he had waited all year for a decent discount.

Since then, we are pleased to report that the deals have only improved.

Reviewing the EAH-AZ100, we were struck immediately by their “clear and open sound“ and “superb amount of detail”. Digging, deeper, we found them to be punchy, present and dynamically impactful – a combination that ultimately earned them a five-star review.

Complementing their sonic merits, the Technics are also small, light, and comfortable to wear over long periods of time. Touch controls for audio modes, playback and volume are fully customisable, so you can use them any way you please.

A strong and stable Bluetooth connection (with support for SBC, AAC, LDAC and the LC3 codec) means you are unlikely to find yourself grieving a wired option, especially given the earbuds’ impressive 10-hour battery life with ANC enabled.

Used alongside the charging case, their battery life rises to 28 hours.

Nobody, it seems, can keep up with the class-leading noise cancellation of Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), but the Technics make an honourable attempt, with an effect “like heavy snowfall muffling the world”.

They also feature an Adaptive mode, which automatically adjusts noise-cancelling based on your environment. Alternately, of course, you have the option to dial the intensity up or down yourself.

For a cherry on top, these earbuds include three-way Bluetooth Multipoint connectivity, allowing for connection to multiple devices at once, as well as support for Auracast transmission.

Conventionally, the main drawback of a premium product is its price, but given that these headphones are now available for £189.99 from Amazon, in this instance, you can have your cake and eat it.

Put that pizza down! Bin those takeaway menus, resist the urge to boot up the Dominos app and do something that your ears, and waistline, will thank you for: spend your money on a brilliant Bluetooth speaker instead.

For about the same price as your Saturday night takeout, you could get yourself a JBL Go 4 for just £27 at Amazon this Prime Day, down from its original price of £40. That's a saving of around 33 per cent on the best pocket-sized Bluetooth speaker on the market.

It doesn't taste particularly good (although we haven't actually tried), but it does sound the business.

It's remarkable how much performance JBL has managed to wring out of the soap-sized Go 4. It's handsome, well-equipped, durable and, for its size, remarkably talented sonically

The Go 4's IP67 rating means that dust and limited submersion in water will leave no lasting damage, and the general robustness of construction here is truly admirable.

Battery life is up to roughly 7 hours of standard playtime, with two more hours via Playtime Boost.

Playtime Boost will suck out most of the bass from the speaker's presentation, but that aside, the Go 5 sounds remarkably good considering its size and price. Thanks in part to its 45mm driver and that hollow-contour logo, the fifth-gen model is the meatiest, most robust sounding Go that we've yet heard, with a fuller, more powerful reproduction than its fourth-gen predecessor.

As our review stated, the fifth-gen speaker is tuned "to have an innate understanding of how your music should sound. Nothing here is overdone or overly coloured, but it shares its bigger siblings’ ability to go with the flow as we bounce around tracks and genres".

If your budget is limited, the Go 4 is our go-to recommendation – ditch the late night curry and pick one up on Amazon.

Sony’s WF-1000X range has gone from strength to strength. The recent addition of the WF-1000XM6 was no exception, and the new wireless earbuds earned a five-star review from our team this year.

At their launch in February, we predicted that Sony’s new earbuds might see a Prime Day discount, but thought that, given their recent release, we were unlikely to encounter any significant savings.

How wrong we were.

As part of this year’s Prime Day savings, you can now pick up a pair of the Sony WF-1000XM6 at a whopping discount of almost £50, bringing them down to just £199 at Amazon.

We found that the WF-1000XM6 improved on the sonic performance of their predecessor, the WF1000XM5, with a “newfound sense of natural warmth throughout the frequency range”.

They sport all the features we expect from a flagship pair of wireless earbuds – “a fantastic sense of timing, an expressive midrange, weighty yet well-defined bass and crisp, nicely controlled highs” – and we feel that these earbuds cover all bases.

The WF-1000XM6 use a new QN3e processor, alongside four mics in each earbud, to improve the quality of their ANC – a move we feel has been highly effective.

When we took them out on the London tube, we were pleased with how the earbuds extracted both low-frequency rumbles and high-pitched screeches from our environment.

During calls, too, these earbuds impressed us with their ability to subdue a variety background noises, with voices coming through “loud and clear with a great level of detail”, even in windy conditions.

A battery life of eight hours places the WF-1000XM6 somewhere in the middle of their competitors, but two extra charges from the wireless charging case result in a respectable total battery life of 24 hours.

For anyone looking for a convenient, pocket sized dose of “benchmark-setting” audio performance, these earbuds could be just the thing. Even better, you can buy them now for their cheapest price yet, of just £199 from Amazon.

As someone who has spent the best part of two decades testing hi-fi products, I don’t need anyone to sell me the benefits of having a system made up of hi-fi separates.

Having one box dedicated to each specific job in the audio chain is, in an ideal world, the best way to maximise sound quality.

But I’m also a realist. And I have heard many all-in-one systems in my time that do a spectacular job of delivering convenience and excellent sound quality.

And one of those systems, the sensational Sonus Faber Omnia, is currently heavily discounted, with a whopping £600 off at Peter Tyson.

Sonus Faber has been responsible for some beautifully finished speakers over the years, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Omnia oozes style.

Its elongated, curvaceous shape gives it serious room presence, as does that classy walnut top panel. The panel is also decorated with four light strips that illuminate it and act as a display.

The strip closest to the front changes colour depending on the input being used; it is flanked by two dots which you can tap to change volume. It sounds simple, but it makes for an enjoyable user experience.

Omnia means ‘everything’ in Latin, and the name hints at the features on offer. This is an extremely versatile box of tricks and supports AirPlay 2 for transmission from Apple devices, Google Cast for one-tap playback from several services such as Deezer, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Amazon Music on an Android device. You also have Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect on board.

It can help boost your TV’s sound via HDMI ARC and can accommodate other audio sources through its dongle-like MiniDin switchable phono/line-input adapter. There’s also Bluetooth aptX HD for quick and easy music playback from a smartphone.

Give Omnia a little room to breathe (Sonus Faber recommends leaving at least 10cm of clearance between it and a rear wall) and you’ll hear it performing at its best.

The speakers (two, 44mm side-firing cellulose pulp drivers, two 19mm silk-dome tweeters, a pair of 75mm paper-pulp cone midrange drivers and a 165mm long-throw aluminium-cone woofer) are all integrated beautifully and are driven by a 490 watt amplifier.

In our Sonus Faber Omnia review, we say it is “one of the biggest and most open sounding examples of its type we’ve heard. Close your eyes, and you don't need to stretch your imagination to believe the sound is coming out of a pair of standmounters.”

It doesn’t distort or sound hard when pushed, and it delivers plenty of quality bass at the other end of the frequency spectrum too. In fact, it’s the potent mix of substance and subtlety, especially the sense of pureness you get from the midrange, which many rivals simply struggle to match.

If you want one box that looks sensational and does it all brilliantly for a very attractive price, I think Omnia is well worth the £600 saving over at Peter Tyson.

Two of our favourite music streamers have had their prices slashed for Prime Day – save up to £70 on these WiiM models

Giant TVs are cool, but as our TV and AV editor, Tom Parsons, once said:

“A TV can’t replicate the charm of that beam of light flying over your head, or the little dust fairies that dance about within it. That’s real cinema, isn’t it?”

If that sentiment has tugged on your heart strings, and you have decided it’s finally time to take the plunge and build your own home cinema, I have some good news to share.

I have trawled the current sales and offers to create a stellar full-fat, wireless Dolby Atmos home theatre, built around a five-star Sony projector we use as a quality benchmark in our AV test room.

The package requires you take advantage of three key deals that are live on Peter Tyson right now. They are listed below.

There’s a lot to like about the Sony VPL-XW5000ES. But the main reason I would pick this five-star beamer – even at full price – over its rivals is its ability to deliver a native 4K image.

Most projectors at this level use pixel shifting to achieve 4K. This is a bit of a cheat, as it means the projector is creating its ‘4K’ image by combining two 1080p images per frame, rather than delivering it natively. Though the technology has improved over the years, the process can lead to motion flicker or haloing – two things you don’t want when watching movies.

The Sony projector’s ability to deliver a native 4K image is a key reason it offers one of the most balanced, authentic and ultimately immersive home-movie experiences you’ll find on a unit at this price. As we say in our review: “Despite being Sony’s cheapest 4K laser projector, the XW5000ES still delivers gorgeously cinematic and detailed pictures.”

One word of warning: it doesn’t have 4K/120Hz, so it’s not great for gamers. I have opted for the Peter Tyson deal here as it also gets you an Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen), which adds a source to the bundle, free of charge. (Like most long-throw projectors at this level, the VPL-XW5000ES doesn’t have a streaming platform built-in.)

Next up we have the Sony Bravia Theatre Quad. I chose Sony’s four-star wireless surround sound system over one of the sea of full fat 5.1 multi speaker setups we have reviewed, because of the simplicity it brings to the table. If you wanted to get a full fat 5.1 (or more) home cinema, you would need to invest in an AV amplifier to power it. You would also then need to connect it all up with cabling snaking around the room.

The Quad doesn’t require you do either of the above. It simply requires you to connect the control box to your source, then place the four wireless speakers (which house 16 channels with a total power output of 504W) sensibly around the room. From there it will deliver a pleasingly clear and spacious sound that should delight most movie fans.

In fact, the Quad’s only real shortcoming is that the system’s low end is a little underpowered. Which is why I recommend picking up the Sony SA-SW3 Wireless Subwoofer to complement it. The SW3 neatly slots into the system with a few button pushes; it improves low-end performance, making the whole experience all the more immersive.

So, a hassle free, wireless home theatre that combines the best of old and new. What’s not to love?

If you want a satisfyingly cinematic or sporting experience at home, there really is no substitute for screen size.

The good news is that a big TV needn't cost big money. These days, 65-inch TVs go for much less money than you might imagine, and if you wait for a big sales event, your cash can go even further.

And it just so happens that we're right in the middle of a big sales event – Amazon Prime Day – and I've sifted through all of the deals to find three super-cheap 65-inch TVs that I can recommend as great buys.

What do I know about it? I'm so glad you asked!

I've been testing TVs for almost 20 years now, so I know the good from the bad (and the ugly, for that matter). I've also been personally involved in every What Hi-Fi? TV review in probably the last 10 years – and that includes the reviews of the three models I'm recommending here.

Happy with those credentials? Excellent! Here are my three picks, ranked in order of quality.

1. TCL Q6C

Deal price UK: £529 at Amazon
Deal price US: n/a

If you're looking for the best-value 65-inch TV in the Prime Day sales, this is the one I'd buy.

The TCL Q6C impressed us so much in testing that we awarded it five stars and described it as "an absolute steal". That's high praise for any TV, but it's especially impressive when you're talking about a 65-inch set that's currently selling for well under £600.

What makes the Q6C stand out is that it brings technologies normally associated with much more expensive TVs down into the budget category. It uses a Mini LED backlight with local dimming, alongside Quantum Dot colour technology, and the result is a picture that's far more sophisticated than the price suggests.

In our review, we were particularly impressed by the TV's contrast and black-level performance. Dark scenes look surprisingly deep and convincing, while bright HDR highlights have real punch.

Colours are another strong point, delivering plenty of vibrancy and richness without tipping into the sort of exaggerated look that often plagues cheaper TVs.

It's also an excellent option for sport and gaming. Motion is handled confidently, helping fast-moving action stay clear and composed, while gamers get features such as 4K/144Hz support, VRR and low input lag.

No TV at this price is perfect, of course. The sound is merely decent rather than exceptional (something that can be rectified with one of the best budget soundbars), and you'll get the best results by spending a little time tweaking the picture settings. But those are minor caveats when the overall performance is this strong.

Simply put, if your budget stretches to the TCL Q6C, it's the best cheap 65-inch TV I've seen in the Prime Day sales.

2. Amazon Ember QLED

Deal price UK: £600 at Amazon
Deal price US: $710 at Amazon

The TCL Q6C is my top pick, but the Amazon Ember QLED isn't far behind, given its current Prime Day price.

In fact, one of my colleagues recently described the deal on this TV as "impossible to ignore", and it's easy to see why. Amazon has cut the price dramatically, turning what was already a solid mid-range TV into one of the most tempting bargains in the sales.

The Ember QLED is a significant step forward from Amazon's previous QLED efforts. It features a full-array backlight with 160 dimming zones and a panel that's considerably brighter than its predecessor, resulting in a picture that's sharper, punchier and more three-dimensional than you might expect at this sort of money.

During testing, we were particularly impressed by its detail levels and colour performance. Images look crisp and vibrant, while upscaling of lower-quality content is handled well enough that everyday broadcast TV remains enjoyable.

The TV also supports every major HDR format, including Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive, so you're covered regardless of which streaming service you use.

Another advantage over many budget rivals is the sound. Built-in TV audio is rarely worth talking about, but the Ember QLED produces a fuller, clearer and more spacious presentation than most affordable sets manage.

Why isn't it above the TCL? Primarily because the Q6C's Mini LED backlight delivers superior black levels, contrast and gaming performance. The Amazon also tops out at 60Hz, making it less appealing to serious gamers.

Still, if you're heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem or simply want a big, capable and easy-to-use 65-inch TV for as little money as possible, the Ember QLED is an excellent Prime Day buy.

3. Samsung U8000F

Deal price UK: £367 at Amazon
Deal price US: $400 at Samsung

The Samsung U8000F is the TV I recommend if your budget is as tight as possible.

At £367/$400 during Prime Day, it's substantially cheaper than both the TCL Q6C and Amazon Ember QLED, and that price difference is impossible to ignore. In fact, it's one of the least expensive big-brand 65-inch models you can buy.

Of course, some compromises are inevitable at this sort of money. Unlike the TCL and Amazon models above, the U8000F doesn't have a Mini LED or full-array backlight, and its picture isn't as bright or as impactful when displaying HDR content. Black levels are also less convincing, meaning movie nights won't have quite the same cinematic punch.

That said, Samsung has done a commendable job with the fundamentals. In our testing, we found the U8000F delivered a balanced, natural picture that avoids many of the exaggerated traits often seen on budget TVs. Colours are pleasingly authentic, detail levels are respectable, and standard-definition and HD content are handled particularly well.

Samsung's excellent Tizen smart platform is another big plus. It's packed with streaming apps, easy to navigate and generally feels more polished than many rival smart TV systems.

The biggest reason to choose the U8000F over the TVs above is simple: value. While the TCL Q6C is undoubtedly the better performer and the Ember QLED offers a more advanced specification, both cost considerably more. If spending £500-£600 on a TV still feels like a stretch, the Samsung gives you a huge screen from a trusted brand for comfortably under £400.

No, it's not the best TV in this list. But when price becomes the priority, the U8000F makes a very strong case for itself.

65 inches is rapidly becoming the new standard TV size, offering a cinematic size without overwhelming your living room (or your eyeballs).

A 65-inch size has also become much more affordable over the years – now more than ever, with Prime Day in full swing.

I've handpicked the highlights from the summer sales event, including several What Hi-Fi? favourites and even an Award winner or two. There's a bit of everything here, from great-value Mini LEDs to flagship OLEDs, but all are excellent TVs sure to enhance your living room.

These are all TVs that have been tried and tested here at What Hi-Fi?, and every set below has been awarded the full five stars. I'll go into more detail about why we like them so much below, with links to our in-depth reviews.

For now, though, let's get to the deals:

The TCL QM7K won a What Hi-Fi? Award at our most recent ceremony, partially for offering far more than it had any right to for the price. A Mini LED screen with 1008 dimming zones, Quantum Dot colour and a claimed 2600 nits of brightness are just some of the features you'll enjoy, now with $750 off.

The LG C5 is another What Hi-Fi? Award winner, taking home not one, not two, but three gongs – including best gaming TV, so it's an ideal choice for GTA 6. Whatever you use the C5 for, it will deliver a superbly detailed, contrast-rich picture, and it is the best value OLED in the Prime Day sales right now.

The TCL QM8K is a step-up model from its QM7K sibling, offering more dimming zones for better contrast control and a higher claimed brightness of 4500 nits. Combining brightness and punch with refinement and naturalism, it's a stunning TV that's even better value now that it's under $1,000.

We were recently bowled over by the new Samsung S99H, but last year's Samsung S95F is now available at an excellent discount. The five-star stunner boasts a stunningly bright, vibrant and sharp picture, four HDMI 2.1 sockets for gaming and one of the best-looking designs on the market.

The Sony Bravia 8 II is our reigning TV Product of the Year, and with good reason. Cinephiles in particular will love the stunning, authentic picture quality, but it's also one of the best-sounding OLEDs available and our go-to benchmark for testing TVs.

The Sony Bravia 8 is a tad older than the other TVs on this list, but still an excellent buy and now with a whopping 43% discount. Our 2024 TV Product of the Year, the Bravia 8 offers a balanced, immersive picture, good audio by TV standards and Sony's typically great motion handling.

If you have been looking for a way to bring the big-screen experience to your home, countless projectors and large TVs claim to deliver just that. And, with Amazon Prime Day now in full swing, plenty of different brands are offering tempting discounts across a range of products.

But which models will get you the best large screen, all while saving you some of your hard-earned cash? We have found two products to fit that particular bill – that will deliver an immersive screen size and have similar price tags. Each offers something different, but both can bring the big-screen experience to your home.

A super-sized TCL TV

First up, the gigantic 98-inch TCL C7K is a king-sized 4K TV at a jaw-droppingly low price. The five-star set would usually cost a respectable £2399, but Prime Day has seen this crash to a remarkable £1999 at Currys. Don’t get us wrong, that is still a lot of money. But for the sheer size and quality of the TV, this is a bargain price.

You get 3000 nits of brightness controlled with 2000 dimming zones, plus TCL’s Halo Control features, which aim to reduce the effect of backlight blooming. This is aided by an anti-glare film that reduces reflections.

It received a What Hi-Fi? Award last year, thanks to its spectacular brightness and colour, as well as its excellent gaming specifications. The dimensions of the TV alone are enough to blow your socks off, as we say in our review: “We’ve seen a few 98-100-inch TVs now, but the raw cinematic impact of seeing our favourite test movies and TV shows writ so large across our field of view never seems to grow old.”

The brightness is intense, especially at this size, with small HDR highlights looking every bit as dazzling as on pricier TVs. TCL’s Halo Control also does a stellar job of suppressing any unwanted blooms of light emerging.

In terms of sound, the TV offers a 6.2.2-channel system designed by Bang & Olufsen. It is detailed and clear, and never becomes overstated, harsh or brittle. It does, however, lack the levels of bass and immersion that a decent, dedicated Dolby Atmos soundbar would provide.

It’s very well equipped for gamers, with VRR, ALLM, and a 144Hz refresh rate. You get a full complement of HDR format support, but only two HDMI 2.1 ports.

Of course, a 98-inch screen will take up a fair bit of room in your home. If you don't have the space to accommodate, the option below might be a better fit for you.

And a more compact projector from BenQ

TCL’s super-sized TV is certainly a large beast to behold, but it is simply not a realistic addition to many people's homes. It measures 218cm wide, which is quite a challenge if you are working with a compact space. There is the option to wall-hang, but of course you need to have a wall capable of supporting its 55kg weight.

If that won’t work for you, there’s another way to get the big-screen experience. The BenQ W2720i is a 4K projector that holds the crown as the best mid-range model in our best projectors guide. The price for the What Hi-Fi? Award-winning projector has dropped from £1999 to £1799 at Richer Sounds, saving you a reasonable £200.

It offers a more compact option than the TCL C7K, as it measures 14 x 42 x 31cm (hwd) and weighs just 6.5kg. You can push the screen size up to a claimed 300 inches, which knocks the 98-inch TV out of the park.

When we reviewed the projector, we were met with a clean, detailed picture that still looked natural. We say in our review: “So crisp, detailed, pristine and full of texture and density are the W2720i’s pictures that they really do look 4K, even if pushed to prodigious image sizes.”

The Award-winner's connections go further than those of most projectors, by including three HDMIs, one of which provides ARC support for passing sound out to a connected AVR or soundbar, and one of which supports 4K/120Hz.

There are some limitations to consider with a projector compared with a TV. Any projector that costs less than £10,000 will struggle to produce deep black levels, especially compared with a Mini LED such as the C7K. The W2720i is still a great performer in this area when compared with rival projectors, but the TCL TV does a better job at recreating proper black depth.

You will also have to deal with a weaker picture performance in any sort of ambient light compared with a TV screen.

But the BenQ’s smaller footprint and impressive specifications may well suit your home cinema set-up better. It depends on which big-screen experience works best for you, but these stellar bargains on both products are worth looking into.

A music streamer is one of the easiest ways to modernise an ageing hi-fi system. They bring streaming services to equipment that still sounds great, without the expense of a full system upgrade.

As part of this year’s Prime Day, the What Hi-Fi? Award-winning WiiM Pro Plus has dropped to just £175 at Amazon, Peter Tyson and Smart Home Sounds. Meanwhile, its step-up model, the WiiM Ultra is available for just £279 from Amazon.

Both streamers have impressed the What Hi-Fi? review team, earning five stars for their exceptional functionality and sound quality. Whether you are looking for a simple streaming upgrade or a more premium all-in-one hub for your hi-fi system, these discounts make both models all the more appealing.

The WiiM Pro Plus is one of our favourite affordable music streamers, having earned both a five-star review and a What Hi-Fi? Award for its combination of accessible pricing, extensive streaming support and strong sound quality.

Compact and minimal in its design, the Pro Plus will be easy to accommodate in most systems. The streamer features dual-band wi-fi and Bluetooth 5.1 (with SBC and AAC codec compatibility).

Chromecast is built in, but Apple Airplay 2 is also available, and the Home control app supports Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music, Pandora, Tuneln and a host of less high-profile alternatives.

Crucially, the Pro Plus sounds more accomplished than its price tag suggests. In our review we praise its “clear, detailed” and “dynamically adept” sound, noting its “impressive” presentation. Even at its standard price, the Pro Plus provides excellent value for money, so this Prime Day deal feels like a true bargain.

Those willing to spend a little more should also consider the step-up WiiM Ultra, which is currently seeing a 20% Prime Day discount on Amazon. While the Ultra shares many features of the Pro Plus, it builds on its successful formula with a more premium design, larger feature set and improved sonic performance.

The most obvious difference is the Ultra’s sleek aluminium chassis and responsive 3.5-inch colour touchscreen, which displays album art and playback information, while offering quick, simple access to settings and presets.

Connectivity is another area where the Ultra excels. Alongside analogue and digital inputs and outputs, the Ultra adds HDMI ARC, a moving-magnet phono stage, a USB input, subwoofer output and a headphone socket, almost doubling the connections of the Pro Plus.

Sonically, we found that the Ultra delivers greater “detail, clarity and space” than the Pro Plus, with a sound we described as “mature and capable”.

Both the WiiM Pro Plus and WiiM Ultra offer an easy, high-quality upgrade for your hi-fi system and are now available with appealing Prime Day discounts. The Pro Plus can be yours for £175 at Amazon, Peter Tyson and Smart Home Sounds, and the Ultra is available for just £279 from Amazon.
