NEWS: Now Blu-ray Disc goes audio

This is Divertimenti, by TrondheimSolistene, the world's first Blu-ray Disc audio-only release.

Produced by Norwegian label 2L, the disc combines a variety of HD audio formats.

What's more, it comes packaged with a hybrid multichannel SACD to ensure complete compatibility with just about any digital disc player out there.

The disc includes 5.1-channel sound in DTS HD Master Audio, Dolby True HD and Linear PCM, all at 192kHz/24-bit, 5.1-channel Dolby Digital at 48kHz, and stereo LPCM 192kHz/24-bit.

In addition, the hybrid SACD/CD disc includes stereo CD quality, and stereo and 5.1-channel DSD.

The album include's Benjamin Britten's Simple Symphony, which should prove a great demonstration of the abilities of the audio formats, plus works by Bacewicz, Bjorklund and Bartok.

The set can be ordered online for approximately £15 from 2L's online shop, and the music is also available as hi-resolution FLAC and DSD downloads from MusikkOnline.

2L recordings are distributed in the UK by Discovery Records, and the album will be available through Discovery's online shop.
