By no means bad speakers, but they don’t quite do enough to challenge the market leaders

My wife got me these for Christmas to replace a pair of QA 2010s. They were good out of the box and they keep getting better. They obviously sound different to the QAs but I am hearing so much more music. Brilliant speaker.

I have to agree with both these comments.  I recently purchased a pair of these awe inspiring speakers.  I recently upgraded from my beloved and long serving Mission 780's.  These are hi-fi's best kept secrets.

Spacious crystal clear open sound.  Good well defined bass.  Epic midrange and lovely high end.  A genuine made from granite feel.

Easily positioned.  They intergrate so well with my creek evolution 2 amp and exposure cd player.  Florence and the Machine Cosmic love just blew me away.  Totally captiving bringing all of her haunting voice and making easy work of the mass of background music and sounds.  Shut your eyes and she's singing right infont of you.

THESE ARE AMAZING SPEAKERS !!!!!!

I agree with dbbloke. These speakers are a five star product if not product of the year!

I wonder if perhaps What Hi Fi reviewed these speakers early in their 'running in' process. The way the reviewer has described the sound is pretty much as you'd expect after only a few days of use. Certainly their description echoes my own experience of these speakers in the first few weeks of listening. They do take a long time to run in but given plenty of time and much patience, the sound these speakers make becomes truly sublime. I am running a pair with a Naim CD5i-2/Nait 5i and every piece of music I play through them sounds seriously musical. It's all wonderful stuff and I really can't think of anything critical to say about these little gems. Erm.......no, nothing at all.

I have listened to enough kit, from budget to high end in my many years to know what makes a good product and these Usher S-520 loudspeakers are not only very good, they are keepers for the long term. As far as I am concerned, they represent phenominal value for money. They are solidly made, they look and most importantly sound fantastic. They are among the most musical and entertaining loudspeakers I have heard and I know that I will be listeninging to these litttle speakers and enjoying their highly musical and addictive presentation for a long time to come.

Do I really need to add that they come very highly recommended? Go and book a good long home audition.

A Very easy 5 stars if not product of the year.

No Idea how WHF came to the conclusion they did. I own these speakers and they are seriously good in almost every way, a steal even at what is a rather expensive price for speakers of this size.

Design - Great design with plenty of colour options, very well built and sturdy, very nice bi-wire sockets. Great weight. Good wife acceptance factor.

Treble is amazing, although the detail can initially make you think it's bright.

As for BASS - wow, unbelievable. I initially auditioned in a HUGE warehouse, but currently have in a normal English sized home. There is plenty of bass, impossibly so for something so small. Doesn't flap the trousers but still makes you jump if you hook it up to watch movies (you would need a pretty expensive av amp to consider mating with these babies though). BTW, I've got 3way 10" full range and 2 18" custom subs with about 5k on tap and I still absolutely love the bass on these.
Another area I think about bass is when you listen to live recordings, you get an air or ambience of what's going on that these speakers manage to reproduce. Bass isn't loud BUT they will give you an indication to what is actually on the recording,  it gives almost all of the extension but just quietly, also when you hear a kick drum, you can tell it's skin being struck, not just the more normal thud. The bass that is here is quality to sum up in a few words.

Midrange is something very special, sounds very real and life like, much better than any other speaker in this price range. Now and again, they can be provoked into something not quite perfect (a little graining for s split second) around 3-3.5khz but so quickly they play something else so well you forget and forgive.

Speed - These things are super dynamic and fast. Makes everything seem so alive. No tonal flattness (as per WHF review) just tonal correctness unless you're the sort of person who likes the pop setting on an eq Smile

Imaging - they image nice and wide and also have some depth which is pretty amazing for this market segment. I've even had them on the floor and they still create a wide and high soundstage, impressive indeed.

The longer you live with them they more you love, I hope I never have to sell mine and yet I really think I'm not biased. Heard loads of speakers (like hundreds of high end) and I really like these, especially as a second system.
You owe it to yourself to audition, Unless you're into dubstep or something but if you play the notrmal rock / pop / dance they wont disappoint and are the sort of investment that pays in the long term.

I know, you read so often that somthing is a must have bargain of the century, but in this case it's actually true. I can't see why you would need any other monitor unless you're into ribbons.

Not me but found a nice video of them.
