John550 - it has bass weight, but just not as much as its rival Denons, in our comparative testing.
We've been mightily impressed by a wide range of Sony AV kit (including other receivers that have won Awards), so this is not a brand issue, merely an individual product assessment.
But as we always say, four-stars means 'very good'; some people may prefer the performance of the Sony to the Denons, which is why we also always stress the importance of auditioning kit before you buy.
Fair enough,Anyway i reckon most of the main brands products will have something for reviewers to home in on,esp so called budget kit.If a 600 sony avr has bass issues worse than a 450 denon avr, then theres something wrong in the structure somewhere.
Why would sony even bother to release a 600stg. reciever without bass-weight?Esp after their recent excellent reviews everywhere.Does'nt sound like sony to me.Or is it just denons turn this year?
I bought the 3500 yesterday, with a pair of KEF IQ5SE for the front and KEF satellites/subwoofer.
No lack of bass weight; indeed when I first got home, I used just the KEF IQ5SE (so no subwoofer), and replaced my faithful Arcam A75 with the Sony. If anything there was more bass and more detail, which surprised me a little.
I've never been totally convinced about Denon quality, ever since repairing some of their kit year ago. The Sony also has a superior feel about it, so quite happy.

I am considering buying this Sony reciever but have a question:
Can anyone here confirm that the Sony STR-DA3500ES (or 2400ES)
will redirect the LFE-signal (from a DVD/BD) to the front speakers when there is no subwoofer connected ? (in a 5.0 setup)
The manual says nothing about it.
Thanks in advance.
