A renewed show of strength from Sony – exhaustively specified and thoroughly capable. However, Sony has stated some models may exhibit 'un-uniform' brightness

No Sony TVs won an Award this year, following Sony's inability to resolve the problems some users were reporting.

yea,the responce was desperate on sonys behalf.

Went into the sony centre over the weekend and had a look at this and the 55. They inexplicably considering this sets status as flagship were showing a very poorly implemented comedy central hd feed which was very grainy.

I pulled one of the staff to ask why what i could see looked the way it did. He just said it was the feed and proceeded to put some hi def blu ray content on the 55.

The first images that came up were 3d and even without glasses i could see how good this screen was. i was excited  and eager to see 2d.

He then skipped to 2d content and i was blown away. The images were typically showroom vivid but i could quite easily see past that to what was simply the best image i have ever seen to date. Stunning i have to say!!! the was no sign of the the creases on either side of the screen which have plagued these sets and the assistant claimed they had no returns for that reason that he knew about (but then he would do wouldn't he!?!).

The 55 is to big for my living room at about 3m from the screen but if the 46 is as good as the reviews says and my experience with the 55 then it has to be my next TV if you get a good one there the best that i have seen!!.

(of course i will confirm return if any issue with the creases!!)

Hi Richard

I've been told by Sony UK today that this TV has not been withdrawn from sale, but they're still investigating the issue and will get back to me when they have a solution/answer. I suspect Sony's response may take a while (I've already been waiting several weeks).

I received mine Monday July 25, 2011.  The screen has a pronounced light and dark strip/crease/band/line/shadow running down the left hand side.

I have raised this directly with Sony and my dealer.  Two people from Sony have contact me as well as my dealer.

Rebecca@Sony told me that this TV had been withdrawn from sale at the moment and the Sony's dealers briefed on the problem.

Lee@Sony wrote that he can get me a "better set" but then also wrote "[the pronounced light and dark strip] not show up on all the models, just the ones with this type of glass front and then it should only be at a very minor level".

So I am currently waiting a replacement from Sony whilst still worrying if "minor" means "visible" which would of course be unsatisfactory on any screen.

TBH,if i got 1 around the 1700.00 mark,i cud live with that. Most DVD discs, cable providers have different screen ratios.A simple overscan could sort it to acceptability, could they?
