The out of box settings on sonys LED/LCD TVs need calibration to get them looking at their best,as i understand it the 2010 EX LCD models were pre-set with decent standard settings out of box.An opinion cant really count from a side by side comparison especially in a sony shop. Also the 4 on the model no. makes it wi-fi built-in & as part of the connected range,it was never meant to be a 3D model. The entry 3D model for 2011 is the EX-723.This is apparent in the brochure Sony & WHF sent out,the little purple 2011 range one.
When this came out, I was also looking at the 40EX503 (2010 model of the year). I held on thinking I would prefer it as it was thinner with a few more features that the 503 (such as ipod control).
However when I saw the two tv's side by side in the sony shop, there was simply no comparision. The picture quality of the 503 (100hz) blew away the 524 which was only 50hz, and the sound was much better.
Added to the fact the 503 was £300 cheaper, it was a no brainer! Even if they were the same price I would still have got the 503. The picture was so much better.

The gorgeous retro design is hard to resist, but the TEAC fails to deliver an engaging and musical performance at this price
The all-round ability of the Luna 7 means it should sit well with a very wide range of systems
A poor implementation of a neat concept, with poor sound to boot. Disappointing
