There's a lot to like about the CX95s but, for the money, we'd expect more sparkleWrite your own review
- Pleasant, balanced sound
- attractive, ergonomic design
- Lack the sparkle of class-leaders
The CX95s are Sennheiser's top-of-the-range in-ear buds. They're made from a metal/composite hybrid and boast a new, subtle ergonomic look that sits comfortably in the ear.
They come in a 0.6m length, so you can connect them to an in-line remote, common with some makes of MP3 player and Portable Media Player. If you need them longer, the Sennheisers also come with a one-metre extension cord. Unfortunately, this makes the cord far too long, leaving you with an unwelcome excess of wire.
The CX95s also come with their own carry case. It's a neat solution, but only if you don't use the extension cable, because the case can't accommodate everything.
These minor drawbacks are valid, but can be forgiven, because of the CX95s' accomplished sound. They handle any genre of music you throw their way. They're clear, open, and serve up a good dose of detail. The top end isn't bright and bass is well-defined.
There's little to fault with the CX95s, but, at the same time, there's nowhere they really excel. Sure, they sound nice enough, but for the money we'd expect another level of performance that they can't quite produce. Still, they're still a great all-round option and well worth taking for a test drive.
