I have been using Quad equipment for some 25+ years including many vintage units such as Quad II, 33, 405, 66, 77, 99/909 and now QSP.
The new Elite preamp and QSP amps are much, much improved over the classic 909/preamp series, far better detail, soundstage and bass. The real trick is to throw away the Quadlink cable and only use high quality interconnects such as Chord (my personal choice) etc., leave them on for at least a week to burn in and then sit back and enjoy. This combo is truly outstanding!
As previously posted the new Quad QSP suffers from poor speaker protection with turn on & turn off thumps not noticed by WHF,have had to reject two QSP amps. now being modified by IAG who say they have solution but I have not experienced it so far. With regard to the sound I find it to be excellent and am not suprised by WHF comments because I find Bryston products unlistenable their amps are very harsh sounding. The Quad Elite preamp should have been used without Quad Link for best bass performance.
. Bass especially from Acoustic Insight speaker is excellent. A 5 star amp if speaker protection problem is solved.
