We’re still big fans of the TX-SR606, but new models from rival brands have seriously upped the ante

Bought the 606 a few weeks ago, against my former Sony 1200ES - IT IS GREAT. It decodes DD True HD and DTS MA, I can route my three HDMI's, Sony BD350, Panny DVD Rec and Humax Freesat to the Panny on the wall. The sound and vision is fabulous but most of all, and little commented on, is the versatility of the Remote control. At last I can have just the one R/C for all the boxes, its almost worth the cost of the amp alone. Speakers are B&W except for the sub - a Mordaunt Short MS309i.

We prefer films with dialogue, and since many actors seem to mumble a lot, it helps to have these higher quality soundtracks available.

The ONKYO display shows if it is receiving DTS MA or DD MA, and my 5 month old Panny Bluray was not outputting these, despite its ability to do so. A replacement Sony BD350 was secured via the excellent after sales service from John Lewis.

Unless you need enormous power, this is a fine AV Amp, and with a reduced price from my local Sevenoaks, made it  an easy decision to buy.

Why do you not give the HDMI spec. is it I.3 ?  and why do you not comment on its HD multi-channel sound ?   Disbeliever
