"Even when the backlight is taken right down, we failed to get anything close to where we consider the black levels should be."
Could someone please point out to whichever of the world's most trusted tech fluffyheads was reponsible for writing this that it's hardly surprising this had little effect, as plasma screens are self-illuminating, and don't actually have a backlight, let alone a means of adjusting it.
So either this TV isn't actually a plasma, but an LCD, which meant you were able to adjust the backlight but the review is basically useless as you didn't notice what you were actually testing, or it's a plasma and you didn't actually adjust the backlight, which throws into question whether you actually did any testing at all.
When review quality such as this lets you down, there are other options out there for more reliable reviews.

A great amp with some notable musical skills, but it loses a star compared with its better-performing, better-specified rivals
Another admirable and attractive soundbar from LG, pipped to that fifth star by fierce competition
The large screen and punchy picture are highly attractive for this price, but you’ll have to forego the smart features and Full HD resolution
