You can pay less for a DVD upscaler this good, but the Oppo’s extras will ensure its appeal for some

I have the Pioneer 610 It is cheaper than the Oppo and it has very similar specs. This below is from the manual, showing it has the same SACD/HDMI capabilities as the Oppo

HDMI output with DVD-Audio and SACD sources

The way audio sources are output from the HDMI terminal depends on the specification of the

connected component.

1. This unit checks the specification of the connected component (such sample rate/multichannel limitations and

compatibility with protected audio contents) and outputs the signal accordingly. Note that ‘DVD-Audio compatible’

indicates compatibility with protected audio contents. ‘SACD compatible’ indicates compatibility with DSD signals.

2. If HDMI Out setting (page 3cool is set to LPCM (2CH), DVD-Audio multichannel sources will be downmixed to

stereo. (In cases where the source is downmix-prohibited, only the front left/right channels are output.) For SACD

sources, the 2 channel (stereo) SACD audio area is selected.

If the video output resolution is 480i, 576i, 480p or 576p, audio output may be limited to 2 channel (depending to the

connected component).

The copy and paste did not go too well, (trying to fit a salmon in a sardine tin)but at least you have all the info you need.I would have edited the post to make it more readable for you all, but I don't see any option to do so. Hence this appended apology.

I have had mine for a year and I am very pleased with it except for one thing: SACD playback! I don't use HDMI connection in my vintage stereo system! Because so many SACDs are the hybrid variety, if you playback through the normal stereo outputs, SACDs sound no better than CDs. Which are A LOT better on this player than my previous players from Rotel,Philips & Sony(SACD player)- all well-received in the audio mags. But where this machine excels is on DVD-Audio which on this m/c is streets ahead of both the CD and SACD output in terms of detail rendition, ambience and sound balance. I bought mine on ebay for 75 quid - a STEAL! At full price, and with HDMI this is still an Absolute Bargain: buy two! One for Sound, the other for Vision!
