is there so much difference in audio and video quality between pch 200 and dune inspite of similar hardware
The Dune can play FLAC audio, bluray and DVD iso images, supports NTFS on external hard drives, and has 7.1 analogue output.
The Sony bluray player has non of these facilities.
I connect my Dune to an external DAC/processor and it sounds amazing.
I can play FLAC audio upto 24/192, and the DUNE can decode bluray HD audio to PCM if your processor cannot.
Picture quality is as good as the Oppo BDP-83 bluray player and popcorn C-200 i used to own.
So i disagree with what hifi's conclusion about this player.
The popcorn cant decode Bluray HD audio to PCM, whereas the Dune can. I give the Dune 5 stars.

A decent, affordable effort from Otone but sound quality is tainted by a distracting brightness
Chord’s QBD76 HDSD is a top-class converter that delivers a brilliant sound from a well-built package. It has plenty of visual appeal, too
There are more talented rivals on the scene, but the veterans are enduring greats
