Hello What HiFi
I think you guy's have lost the plot on the Audio Engine D1 - it's a DAC not a CD player...
Given it's sound performance, connectivity flexibility for it's size, plus headlamp amp too compared to HRT Streamer is it really only 4 stars versus 5 stars for the HRT?
Is the HRT that much better sound-wise despite less features/connectivity?
Hi Julian_b, no we haven't lost the plot but I can understand your confusion. Due to the peculiarities of our content management system (don't ask ) we didn't have a dedicated section for DACs when the review was posted, so it had to go in the CD players channel. I've now moved it into DACs within Accessories. And yes, the HRT Streamer is better.
Thanks Andy for the clarification - now need to find a portable DAC that has the connectivity and features of the D1 with the sound quality of the HRT for around the same price

Designed to partner the DAC-V1 DAC/preamp, the NAP 100 has much to offer anyone wanting a fine power amp in compact form
Our once-favourite Android bows down to fine rivals. Still great value, though
The EAR Yoshino V12 is a terrific integrated amplifier – it needn’t fear any rival at this price
