IMO these speakers deserve 5 stars. A friend of mine has these and they're incredible speakers for the money. Very neutral, the sound is neither warm or clinical. They sound just right. Build quality is very good and you have a choice of 7 finishes. Much better than most budget speakers (Dali Lektor 1, Wharfedale 10.1....you name them) I really don't understand why they only got 3 stars.
Wow....My experience with these speakers are totally different from yours. While I don't have the 420's I have the 430's and these speakers are great. I've listen side by side with a few audiophile speakers in this price class and some above this price class and the Canton's just simply trashed the others including a pair of Dynaudios . After a side by side the Cantons made the Dyns sound boring. The Cantons are detailed, articulate, with a very lively mid-range and highs without being hard on the ears. The other speakers where very boring after listening to the Cantons. The Cantons have a very wide sound stage with a large disbursement of sound. I can see how silver speakers would be ugly, but the other finishes like the Cherry are great. Oh did I mention that the Cantons make the music of the piano sound like its in the room with you? These speakers sound so good I can't believe that What Hi Fi gave it such a bad review....I give it 5 stars easily.
I have to agree with Dodi. I've have recently got a pair of GLE 420's and I love them. I spent ages testing them against many other brands in the same price range and I felt that they out performed them all. I love music of all kinds including Rock and Classical and feel that the 420's bring real energy to the music, whatever the style.
I also agree with Dodi about the Piano. Classical music sounds simply stunning. I love the 420's and would recommend them to everyone. Great speaker. 5 stars

It has its drawbacks, but this Panasonic is easy to live with and has an insightful and dynamic picture performance – it’s a great set
