Best in-ear headphones £50-£100, Awards 2010. Effortlessly enjoyable to listen to and wear, the DTX 80s are modest-looking marvels

Is it just me but has the emperor got no clothes. I just received my DTX80s & low & behold they're as tinny as Mr Tin from Tinnyville who has just won first prize at the local tinny-sounding jamboree.

I purchased Sennheiser CX500s on the strength of great reviews but after trying to like them & after mucho reading on the net I started to wonder if the were counterfiet. They were just weak.

So in an attempt to upgrade from my Ipod Touch boxed set for a second time I opted for the

beyerdynamic DTX80. Man it was deja vu. These alledged upgrades are just the opposite. They sound tight & crisp but overall experience is just high end with clear mid range but no depth.

 IS IT JUST ME?

It could be you - or that you have not pushed them far enough into your ears.  There was an incredible difference between a light ear wear and a little further in. Then, the dynamics really play in, with everything becoming clear - the bass, midrange and top end.

What I don't have is experience of rivals as these are the first pair bought.  Commenting as a musician and someone who likes their fi hi, I was expecting a little more for the money. Early days though (just bought y'day to go with a new HD2 phone) so will come back if the view from here changes.
