Hello, I currently have an Rp1 Rega turntable, I am looking to purchase the B & W DM684 floor standing speakers with the marantz pm6004 amp and cd6004 CD player. Is this the right amp for the speakers, i have read that these speakers are more for classical music, is this true, as I listen to all sorts of music except classical. Is there another pair of speakers worth buying?
The 684 work equally well with all types of music, so there isn't likely to be an issue there. We're big fans of Q Acoustics' 2050is too.
As for amplifiers, we've got really good sounds with Rotel's RA 10 amplifier . Tthe Marantz you mention may not quite have the punch to get the best from either of these speakers.
Thanks for the advise, i ended up going with the Rega Brio R amp, Marantz CD6004 cd player and the Monitor Audio Silver RX6 floorsanding speakers. Was impressed with the sound, off vinyl, cd and USB. Cables used are Chord Carnival Silver Screen and Chord VEE3 interconnect cable.
Now to just put it together and be blown away!!
I use the Cambridge Audio amp 50w/channel at 8 Omh. Is it enought for B&W 684?
Would these be okay powered by a Yamaha As500 amp?
The Yamaha would be okay, but I think it would take something like an Arcam A19/Roksan Kandy to really show what the speakers can do.
Just got these today to replace my 603 first shame you can not use banana plugs when playing chamber of secrets on blu-ray wow what great speakers
Absolutely love mine! No complaints.
Lovely sound if not a little ugly.

A seriously talented performer that has a few design issues
This is a top-notch surround package for the money. It’s a worthy alternative to the award-winning KEF R100 5.1
A great amp with some notable musical skills, but it loses a star compared with its better-performing, better-specified rivals
