Yamaha M-430

This Yamaha system doesn't quite scale the sonic heights of rivals, but find it at a knockdown price and it's a tempting proposition

If you don't go for Denon's own speakers, I'd suggest the Tannoy Mercury F1s at £110.

...and if you are looking for the Denon D-M37, you can currently buy the system unit for just £150 in the sales:

Is there a perfect pair of speakers to go with the Denon head unit?

Only downside of the Denon, if you can call it a downside, is that it costs another £70 + for the speakers and £70 again for a Denon iPod dock. It's the missing dock / bundle that really makes it so darned expensive. Any sign of a Denon bundle anytime from anyone?

Hi Guys,

I've very recently purchased the Yamaha M-430(unit only)for £179 from hi-fi suppliers.co.uk and can tell you i'm well and truly over the moon about the whole thing. I was a little sceptical about purchasing with the matching Yamaha speakers so I got a great deal for the Monitor Audio BR1's for £120 from Practical Hi-Fi to go alongside the machine and the results are magnificent-I cant believe the size of the sound from such a small set-up (even in my good sized living room it sounds great). I've just sold my separates system (Cambridge Audio azur 640A, marantz cd5400 OSE and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's) and hand on heart this little system is every bit as musical-if not quite as loud when really pushed. I would really like What Hi-Fi's verdict if partnered with a taughter pair of speakers (like the M.A's)-I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds to a 5 star rating especially when one considers I paid less than £300!! The bass is bold yet snappy, mid-range truly grand (prob best feature) and top end sweet as sugar. I haven't had the chance to listen through the ipod yet but I'll post some comments when I do. Please let me know your thoughts.  Happy Days-a very satisfied customer.

Acoustictutor - does the unit work with the 3G iphone in terms of charging, using with remote and navigating through the menu. How is the system now..

Thanks,

Ian

Great system and the sound from it is really good. Plenty of bass from this small system. I went for the Mordaunt Short 902i speakers in the end and they are excellent, the build quality is really good and the sound quality is excellent also. I would highly recommend this system and it works with the iphone also....

Hi, bought the unit last week for £191 from Superfi. Over the weekend i hooked it up to my BOSE ACOUSTIMASS® 5 speaker system that i use in my living room and the sound is really good for such a small unit. The sound is tight and very clear with excellent bass. I plan on using the m430 in my bedroom so i'm looking for a good pair of speakers for about £150 or less. I'm thinking about the Mordaunt Short 902i from Richer Sounds at £115.

Clare...Empire Direct has gone into administration as from the 19/01/09...but the Denon is still avaliable from Richer Sounds and Super -FI:

Or Super-FI:

Having reviewed and listened to several systems over the last year, the Denon DM-37DAB is more than likely the one I will go for. (before it sells out)
