Q Acoustics 2000 Series
Best traditional package up to £1000, Awards 2010. It's often all too easy to pick holes in budget home cinema systems, but not here – the 2000 Cinema Pack can relay the minutiae of tense dialogue just as capably as an in-yer-face action-movie finale

Not giving these away for free, AndyWright, but check out the site tomorrow for our next fab competition prize! Something even better...
Hello Robheathcock
Firstly, I am saddened to learn you are experiencing a fault with your 2070 subwoofer. Please accept my sincere apology for the obvious inconvenience this must cause.
Please email me: steve.reichert@armourhome.co.uk and let me know which dealer you are returning it to and I’ll do my best to expedite a swift solution.
In the meantime, I would ask that you allow me to clarify, with facts and figures, some of the points you raise in your post. You suggest we have “a rather common problem” with the 2070 subwoofer. This is absolutely not the case. In the five months since the new range was released to the market, in mid October 2009, we have sold well over 19,000 ‘2000 Series’ loudspeakers. I’m pleased to report our returns rate for the whole range is miles below one percent. Naturally, because they have a lot of electronics on board, in addition to their loudspeaker drive units, active subwoofer reliability is never going to be quite as good as the reliability of conventional passive loudspeakers. The rate for the 2070 is currently a fraction over one percent. Each returned unit is thoroughly investigated to diagnose the fault and the results fed back to our design team and the manufacturers with a view to reducing future problems as much as possible. We do this for two rather obvious reasons: Firstly, no one wants a disappointed customer. A huge amount of time and effort goes into making great products to win customers, to then let then down would be completely stupid. Secondly, repairing and/or replacing products under warranty is very expensive. It is far better for the long term success and profitability of Q Acoustics to make products that work perfectly and delight our customers.
Very best regards,
Steve Reichert – PR Manager, Armour Home (Q Acoustics)
Oh yeah? I'm excited even though I never win anything ( sad face). By the way, where can I find the past competition winners names?
Sounds good! Anyone giving some away for free?....anyone?....,didn't thinks so but hey it was worth a try. Lol
Hi just want to ask since the 1010i package is now down to £350-400... how do these compare in "bang per buck" way...cheers
As good as WHF rates this speaker system i cant imagine it being the best package up to 1000.I think teufels theatre200 @800 leaves it behind, and thats without considering the theatre100 @500!
I have had this package since February 2010 (with 2020 upgrades for fronts and surround.) and I am pretty happy with them.
At first they sounded a little "muddled" and I would say the 2020's were the more muddled of the package.
However, with some time to run in (and a little positional tweakery) I must say the whole system has matured into a very nice home cinema listen which is pretty capable musically also.
My only disapointment is that I also have suffered the Orange light of death....My sub failed around easter and I have yet to pack it up and send it off.
(I will have to DHL it from where I live and have been working away from home a lot these last weeks.)
As a techie it would actually be pretty awesome if they could just ship me out the electronics as that would save everybody a bit of time and cash...Perhaps Mr Steve Reichert could make that happen?
Losing the sub for a while is a double edged sword though....I have recently been hearing some positional low frequency effects that may NOT have been positional if the sub was connected...and this might be leading me down the road of introducing a bigger pair of fronts....time for a pair of 2050's to enter the mix?
Its quite a shame that here in Sweden not many places carry them so getting to hear them may have to wait 'till I get back to the UK on a visit.
(I actually had to get my 2000 system from the UK too...simply no availability at realistic price over here.)
Overall though....nice little system for the price and as mentioned elsewhere in this thread...the What HiFi review is "Spot on"
Just set these up, Running a Yamaha RXV2400 Amp in a room 7 Meters by 9 and 7 ft ceiling. After running the amplifiers automatic calibration and EQ facility decided it all sounded completely wrong!... anyhow, manually set the EQ up and after getting everything setup so it sounded more natural and less clinical (sub settings and location are critical I found - The nicest sounding crossover point with my setup was at 120-130Hz from the sub to the main speakers). Must admit, the What Hi-Fi review is spot on. These speakers positively sing. Works brilliantly with Digital AV sources and analogue. Xbox 360 Games (call of duty MW2 namely) positively shake the room with explosions and bullets whistling around. The same is also true of Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video media (the space craft landing at the start of Star Wars Attack of the clones really rattles the walls!) I have yet to try this with BluRay, however with downloaded HD Material they sound fantastic. All in all for my size of room and amp combo they are more than capable. As for volume, once I had the EQ and crossover set up correctly they perform consistently even beyond comfortable parameters - The Subwoofer, once setup correctly copes very well with anything I have thrown at it so far, from Queen, Radiohead to Benny Benassi providing a solid firm response (a great improvement over a former Bose system which was far too boomy and 'loose' in my opinion). I did trial a number of other systems prior to deciding on the Q's, but for me, they had the detail, space, projection and warmth that all of the other packages I listened to lacked (at least in one of the aspects). I would seriously recomend a trail of this system if you have a medium sized room and dont want to spend the earth!
Bought a Sony STR-DH800 Receiver and the Q Accoustic Home Cinema range as this was in my budget and both got cracking reviews.
Eventually received the home cinema pack at the beginning of February after ordering late December, however I did get a free upgrade to the 2020 speakers due to the long shipping delay. I set the system up - sounded amazing.
Came to use the system on Saturday night watching Blade Runner and the system just didn't sound right, after faffing around with the settings / test modes I found that the Sub Woofer had gone into protection mode and has since been stuck there.
The Sub will only go into protection if it overheats, I live in a mid-terrace house so you can only go so loud with the system before the neighbours are knocking on (i.e. there is no way it could have overheated as its hardly being pushed to its limits).
Contacted Q Accoustic on Monday to see if there is anything I could do before the inevitable send back / wait forever for a replacement, or more likely repair. Unhelpful begins to describe the customer service I received...
Is the orange light on?
Yes.
Have you unplugged it for 30 mins and tried again (this is called an engineers reboot in my industry)
Yes.
Its dead send it back.
When asked why a brand new Sub should do this they couldn't explain. Having looked around on other forums the orange light of death on the sub appears to be a rather common problem.
Based on this my advice is yes it is an amazing home cinema package, but be prepared for issues with the sub-woofer. Disappointing to say the least.
I'm now onto my 3rd 2070s Subwoofer - they are averaging a life span of between 4 & 5 months. They keep going into protection mode - which is a heat problem?
Great speakers, great sub - when it works!
Having looked around this is a really common problem with the system.... so if you do go for the system be prepared for sub woofer issues. Technical support can't or won't offer any information as to the issue and you end up with a brand new unit.
After waiting a while to get them I paired them up to my Onkyo 607. For a one word review it would be Wow! I use them to watch Blu-Rays, bit of X-Box along with music & regular T.V (they made the last series of 24 rather special!). It took my partner a bit of time to be convinced about the sizes, in particular the centre speaker (previously had a set of Kef's), but after half a year she loves them almost as much as me! One of the most rewarding purchases I have made (with the exception of my car!)
I'm glad to see the problem is being addressed but I'd suggest taking a look over on the another site where there is a thread on this very subject.
I would be surprised if the failure rates are actually better than average as I've never previously had experience of a particular sub woofer failing quite so quickly on so many occasions. Every case seems to be in a matter of weeks rather than during the first year so it does suggest a fundamental flaw.
Can I ask if your engineers have come up with a likely cause yet - I'm assuming the same fault is happening with the majority - it might help us owners try to minimize the likelihood of it happening.
That said I must congratulate you on the speed that my own replacement was turned around - even if the actual retailer wasn't quite so on the ball.
Would love to review them but I have been waiting since December to get them!!!!!
After reading this post I felt that I had to share my experience with this item : Q acoustic 2070s subwoofer. I purchased the complete 2000 series 5.1 system back in December 09 as a Christmas gift to my self (had a good year!). Initially I was very pleased with the sound and design of the set up. Until just a week before Christmas the 2070 subwoofer decided to stop working without warning (not that it had much use up to that point!) After the usual checks for loose leads and other connection problems ruled out. I noticed the green LED would change into orange as soon as switched on at the back. According to the book it has gone into fail safe mode and should shut down momentarily and then resume operation. But it doesn’t! It just stays orange what ever you do & how ever long you wait!.
Now here is the real painful part! This is now my Forth 2070s unit to be replaced this year under warranty this ones lasted the longest at three months only to turn it on last night & have it happen all over again!!! Exactly the same problem with all 4 units! all of which were plugged into good serge protection straight into a power tested wall socket.
Fortunately the shop I purchased it from has been very understanding and each time has arranged a courier to collect and replace with good communication throughout. I will have to ring them again tomorrow to break the bad news. I like to think I am a patient person but this is now getting ridicules!.
After several polite emails to Q acoustics they simply tell me it must be overloaded or heat problem my side and to send it back under warranty for repair or exchange through my retailer. I had my home checked out by a electrical technician for voltage, overheating ect and I’m told my wiring and power supply is fine! and the base level has never been up more than half way. It has to be a design fault! If I could some how bypass the fail safe I feel it would work fine, its just to sensitive!
Sorry for a first negative post but wanted to share my problem with this sub, get it of my chest so to speak.
Good luck if you own a 2070s, your going too need it!
I'm another one who had a 2070 fail with the orange light of death after a week of use.
Was eventually replaced by the retailer and this has - but it makes me nervous about the replacement.
I am thinking to buy this speakers, after reading reviews, I have to think twice.
