Gregbull - superb though they are, the B&Ws wouldn't make the most of the Pioneer's potential. We'd suggest a larger speaker package that would allow you to enjoy everything the 'LX82 is capable of.
Got the Lx81 with b&w MT-30 package and it sounds fantastic! everyone who comes around cant belive the sound, the Pv1 sub makes it but i dont think bigger speakers would make much of a differance unless you have a massive room!
I have had the Pioneer SC-LX82 for 1 week now and have to say this just gets more and more impressive everytime I turn it on. Not only does it blow you away when watching films but it also sounds fantastic with music. I was concerned it might sound a touch bright with my B&W's but with a few adjustments it sounds awesome!!! When you get reading the instructions it makes you realise it's worth spending the extra cash over the LX72 with the extra features and especially the remote commands. Ok it's not cheap but it's certainly worth every penny!!!
When auditioned along side lx72 and lx52 my thoughts were that there was a a big difference between the 72 and 52 but not much that i noticed between the 82 and 72. Settled on the LX72 which i was more than impressed with at home hooked up with my LX71 BDP and B&W MT-25 set up. However this week i had delivered B&W CM7's (Front) B&W CM Center and B&W 610XP sub. Still got Two M1's at the rear.
Clare's comments on larger speakers for these amps is spot on in my opinion. The sound stage up front is now staggering and movies just come alive. Musically with the amp hooked up to my old 10 year Rotel RCD cd player more than holds its own...
I'm stuck in a dilema of AV Receiver purchase proportions. I've sitting here with my old Sony amp of about 13 yrs and a new set of B&W MT30's along with Chord cables and still, STILL stuck on deciding whether to upgrade to the Sony DA5400ES/5500ES or Pioneer LX82. Feel almost schizophrenic on which way to go.
Anyone out there able to nudge me over the line convincingly.
hey guys i am not a common poster but i was just wondering if some one could help me out, i have this amp and have 7 speakers connected to it. there not the best speakers they are as follows centre speaker - tangent evo centre speaker, front speakers tangent evo floor standing, read speakers eltax monitor 3 and surrond speakers tangent evo 5's, can any one tell me if this is a good combo or do i need a different type of speaker. if some one could help would be great thanks x
I have just auditioned the pioneer sc-lx82 a/v amp and all i have to say is that it easily blow's the competition away e.g. yamaha z1, denon, sony. I had a carefull listen beetween this and the yamaha and the sony also the denon at another retailer's and i was just amazed at the soundstage, depth, clarity, grip, control and audio perfection compared with the other's i have mentioned befoer. I was seriously considering buying the denon but after the audition's the pioneer stood head and shoulder's above the rest. I have one question which is that quite a few retailer's and other people have said that i should buy the chord company's speaker cable's rather than the qed's because they are better sounding and far superior is this true or not or should i go with qed instead. I need to get the very best out of my new system so therefore i need to choose the right speaker cable to go with it. P.S. the qed cable's do look nice compared to the chord range, but as they say look's are not everything, please help me with this dilemma. Also to just let you know i will be using monitor audio br5 av package cinema speaker's and a bdp-52 blue ray player. Thank's i will appreciate all the advice that i can get so that i can make an imformative decision. Thank's again.
Guys can someone please tell me if this is worth the 300 more over the SC-LX72. Looking to get an Amp for my B&W 805s's or should I go for the Rotel RSX-1550, any advise gratefully received
I was mightily dissapointed when I auditioned this amp. I was replacing my 10yr old + Denon AVR3300 & the LX82 ticked all the boxes for spec & where I wanted to go with an upgraded amp, namely, more amplification to get a bigger, richer sound & HDMI upscaling, etc & it was on offer as an ex-demo part for 1200. I wanted it for music & movies & planned to keep it for some time as I have with my old Denon, so I was determined it should have a good all-rounder sound quality that I could live with for another few years. I demoed it as recommended by the store using a pair of B&W 685's with a direct CD input. My overall impression was that the music sounded like a synthetic version of what it should have sounded like & no real improvement over my old Denon, albeit you could tell it was a higher power. It was slightly bright in tone as well, a bit like my old Denon & this was a trait I had grown to hate. I compared the Denon AVR4310, originally as just a sanity-check to confirm my preference for the Pioneer, but was impressed by its rich sound & natural presentation compared to the Pioneer. The Denon was 300 more, but the sound improvement was at least 600 better than the Pioneer. I now think the Denon is a bit under-rated & a much better-sounding amp. There was no way I could have lived with the Pioneer, not even at 1200.
I would guess the pioneer may be better suited to playing movie soundtracks & may well deserve its '5 star' rating, but for me it falls short of being a great multi-purpose amp.

I'm told we still haven't been supplied an SC-LX72 from Pioneer.
Patience, HHawk, patience!

My dilema
I have M&K M7 Spkrs & SB12 Sub with a Puresound A8000 CD player.
Trying to find the correct amplifier:
LX-72 - lovely blended cd sound, lacklustre film sound.
LX-82 - "harsh/bright sound" with CD, awesome film sound.
any suggestions on reducing the harshness of the cd with an LX82 or would the newer pioneer amps be a better option?

absolutely blown away by this amp.... if you buy a blu ray partner as well you are eligable for a free ipod..
looks are sublime
sound is exciting, fast and true
would definately recommend this amp
Is a group test with a z7 and the new denon on the cards???

Yes, but which speaker would go with it nicely - could thge B&W MT-30 set cope ?
