Get beyond the unglamorous resolution and the TX-P42X10B is nothing but value

I wanted to know whether the 2009 models use less power than their predecessors, so I have been to have a look.  The plate on the back of the TX-P42X10B shows power usage of 224W which compares with 345W (approx as I have forgotten the precise figure) on a TH42PZ81 (the 2008 Freesat model) alongside in the showroom.  I think that 224W refers to maximum usage dependent on the brightness of the picture and the lighting conditions in the room.  The demonstration model also had an 'Eco' scale displayed on screen, so presumably you can play with the settings.  If the 2009 model average power usage is 120W less, then how much does this equate to in cash terms - with say 6 hours viewing daily over 12 months?

Look a lot like 42px80  just vreal4 instead of vreal3 and a clamed constrast of 20000.1 instead of 15000.1. Contrary to what i read here 42pz81 was the full hd version of 2008 so energie power where logicaly superior as for 42px80 it was already 240w nothing new. I like my 42px80 i thing this Tv is very good and doesn't deserve i change for it right now. Nothing REALLY new 42px80 already deserved 5 star easy

My much loved th-37px70 was water damaged during a freak weather episode (global warming or not).  Having rejected the JVC 42 inch LCD I had won at the christmas works draw, as the picture quality was VERY poor(I had bought the panny 1 month previous when my 32 CRT died. Spooky as i was trying to persuade the wife tht we needed a new telly.....weirdly nothing to do with me).  I was keen to replace the panny with another(the jvc went to a good home...they are all blind).

I had spent months researching the orignal purchase of the th37-px70, so knew where to look for a replacement.

Down to the details:

Build quality: very good compared to most options, but not as good as the th37-px70.

Picture quality:

contrast: contrast is GOOD ...VERY GOOD

colours: ideal settings of cinema and warm are not far off of standards

HD Performance: Although not full HD spec, you will be hard pressed to tell the difference at less than 5-6 foot (Spent ages with this and a more expensive panny 1080 plasma side by side comparison from same blu ray source).

I view from about 15 foot (big living room...have projector for films).  With the added 24p option, this is one major tick over the 37-tx70.  1080p/24 performance is unquestionable.

It is not 1920 x 1080....but unless you have 20:20 vision and you are less than 6 feet away from the screen, this is not an issue...don't believe the hype. 42 inch screen and more than 1920 x 1080 is non distinguisable.

Overscan:

This TV allows you to turn off overscan as required giving you a better resolution.

Eco mode: take it or leave it....cuts down on over brightness in dark rooom

I have many LCD screens, but Panasonic Plasmas beat them hands down. Forget all the problems with first generation plasmas, screen life spans, burn in etc... it doesn't happen with this screen.

This screen will make you smile....for a long time!

Happy Viewing

Panasonic has a comprehensive Eco strategy for its 2009 TV models, based around its Neo PDP plasmas.

Essentially it's claimed these use 50% less power at the same level of brightness as its 2007 models.

And Panasonic says it will release 20 Eco products across its entire range in 2009, including TVs, Blu-ray players and home cinema systems.

Might have seriously considered this if i hadnt got a px80 last year.

On thr other hand, some of the review isnt exactly glowing. Sounds a bit "meh, wadaya want at £700...".

Thing is tho, at 700 i do indeed want jam on it.

My only complaint is tuning the set to my requirements. I find the picture not as clear as I would like on satellite. Screen instructions for adjusting the picture are general and of limited effect on vision clarity issues. When watching a golf ball in flight I do not see a ball in flight but more various parts of its passage in small jumps and blurs across the screen. Reading your review I understood that all moving pictures were clear and blur free.

£700....just a number like 768..

Pass the Jam plz...

Why what's wrong with the finnish?

No matter how good the tv is I will not buy it with a black gloss casing, and that goes for any make of TV.
