Simple but very effective, this is a fine buy

Use it with an Apple Airport Express and feed it lossless files - stunning combo for less than £200...

This DAC is exceptional value for money.

For many years my primary digital source has been well served by a Linn Karik.

I bought this DAC to see what all the fuss was about and to see if I could get sound approaching the quality I was used to from PC generated music.

It generates a different sound from my Karik, but fantastic and holographic in, more akin to the sound you get from vinyl.

Amazingly it matters little what generates the digital stream to it - I did back to back tests using a £100 DVD player and the Karik as a transport and could tell the difference, but it was not very much ...

My next experiment is to try it with a PC source ...

Recommended whole heartedly - an absolute bargain.

Amazingly when you buy them, you also get a personal experience with the designer Stan. His cables are pretty amazing value as well.

Five stars from me ....

It has been used for a week or so now and getting run in, probably to the annoyance of the neighbours [ not really ] and it has opened the sound of my system nicely. I am using a very budget Cambridge D100 cd player to spin the discs into Denon PMA 250 amp and old Spendor BC1 speakers.

I was going to spend loads of dosh on a new player but won't bother now. Maybe a good transport some time in the future.

The Cambridge cd player sounds rough just plugged into the amp directly, horrid top end, all splashy and out of control, with the Beresford it plays music properly, cymbals sound like cymbals and the vocals are improved, more realistic and in the room.

I know my system is a bit dated and would sound slightly pants against mid priced modern kit but this DAC has given it a new lease of life and saved me a lot of money.

To sum up, a very worthwhile investment to those on a low budget wishing to upgrade the cd sound of their system. It will vastly improve cheap end cd players. Oh yeah, and Stan is very helpful and friendly.. 5 stars..

I've had my Beresford 7510 upgraded by Tirna electronics.  It now sounds more detailed, with a slightly deeper base and more realistic sounding instruments, especially cymbals.   This is a great Dac, I'm currently also using it as a pre amp too to feed my Quad 306 via a Yaqin tube buffer.  Using it a a preamp makes my setup simpler and it sounds fine too.  I think it is a fairly simple volume pot, but it seems to keep an even spread in the sonic range as you reduce the volume.

I upgraded the power supply, opamp and dac chip (plenty of instructions on the net) It sounded better after each upgrade but it takes skill and time so get the already upgraded 7520 version which has a better headphone amp and USB. It's a great DAC now and I don't think many will beat it. The power supply was easy just buy a good analog no matter what DAC you end up buying, it should help.
