XiVA launches musicm8 NAS with built-in CD-ripping drive

XiVA, part of the Imerge company, has announced its new network attached storage device, the musicm8. The 'rip, store and stream' device has a terabyte (1000GB) of storage and a CD-ripping drive.
Set to cost around £800, XiVA hopes the musicm8 will prove a suitable partner for devices such as the Sonos system, Logitech Squeezebox and Linn DS.
The system can store audio in a variety of file types including WAV, FLAC and MP3 – and allows you to set your bitrate and file size – as well as photos and videos.
Accessing your tunes is possible from anywhere in the world thanks to a remote internet facility, you can also stream your tunes to a Nintendo Wii, Xbox or PS3, and the musicm8 is DLNA-compliant.
Other features include dual-encoding for storing low and high quality versions of your music, full iTunes support, podcast downloader and online updates.
Available from July, the XiVA musicm8 has a suggested retail price of £799.

Good news Haider is that there is a CD drive so just pop your CD in the slot and it auto-rips it. It is pre-config'd straight from default settings out of the box for devices such as Sonos, Logitech, Linn, Xbox 360 & Sony Playstation 3, plus others. The musicm8 is fully DLNA compliant, it will connect and stream to all your UPnP enabled products throughout your home & without any config. I hear what True Blue says but I guess the answer is that this product takes all the techie geeky stuff out of ripping, adding album artwork and settings so its a great solution for a novice user, especially if they own a Sonos music system or similar. Install is as easy as connecting it to a spare port on your router (ethernet cable supplied) and switch it on.

Well if it includes a CD drive and rips at the push of a button then perfect. If it's UPnP/DLNA then it will work with Sonneteer Morpheus music centre perfectly too. The only real sexy hifi system that streams music, can hang on the all and pleasure your eyes as well as ears.
One thing I do accept the comment made by True Blue. Price compared to just buying a PC is a bit high considering Media Monkey with a decent PC can be as little as 300 quid and all formats can be done.
Saying that a PC is untidy and I do believe there is a strong market for a direct ripper/NAS/UPNP drive server in the medium term. The thing is most people who need them already have a PC anyway and a decent NAS like the Buffalo is not much more than £100.
difficult call. I like it none the less.
may be one day you WHat-hifi guys will say it works with Sonneteer as well as ll those other brands
?
Whats the point????? You have to have a pc (with a cd drive in presumably) to install onto your network. Why pay £300 over the cost of a Buffalo Terrastation Which has RAID capabilities.
This is the ideal product for what I'm after. NAS, ripping to FLAC, remote internet access and DLNA compliant.
But the price!! You must be kidding. I could put together a low-powered atom based system for less than half the cost.
