30 Apr 2013

Sky+ HD

If you entered our Facebook competition to win a free Sky+ HD box, free installation and a 12-month subscription to Sky World HD, then today is D-Day.

We had thousands of entries – no, really – so thanks to everyone who entered. But there can only be one winner, chosen at random...

And that is Mrs Gwen Thomas from Walsall! Congratulations to you. We will be sending you an email with the good news and to arrange delivery and installation.

Thanks again to everyone who entered, and look out for more competitions on the website soon.

Second prize was 2 Sky HD Systems Smile

One day I might win something from you guys.

Ho hum !

Where's the love?

To quote a famous film director and food critic,  'Calm down dears, it's just a commercial' Smile

Whether we like it or not we have to accept that for now social media is a modern form of communication technology and like any business it needs to have a sustainable business model.

The good news is we all have freedom of choice.

We don't 'insist' you join. The choice is yours. And to date we've only run two competitions on Facebook -  the rest of our competitions (ie the vast majority) run on whathifi.com.

Disappointed to see this competition is only via Twitter. I like previous contributors, wish to retain some dignity, and not put my every waking thought online.

Here's another reader of the mag and regular visitor / contributor to the site that you will lose if you insist on us all joining Facebook etc. to participate in such things.   You should be wary of selling your souls, not to mention ashamed of it.

My sentiments exactly. There are more ads than friends' postings which I find very annoying. I am noy going to add any more.

What Hi Fi should be ashamed!

No to Farcebuck tyranny.

I want to hold onto my self respect and will not go anywhere near Farcebuck or Twitter or Linked in.

Obviously, What Hi Fi has no self respect.

Just wasted a good 15 mins on that useless facebook site, where nothing works - stopped using that site because of..........................a hundred reasons, if WHAT HI FI intends running stuff through Facebook thats me out.

Yuk

This is indeed a competition running on Facebook. Apologies to those who choose not to use Facebook but as regular readers will know the vast majority of our competitions are open to all via the website. In fact, I think this is only the second competition that we've ever done on Facebook. There will no doubt be a non-Facebook competition along in the not too distant future. Best of luck to those who have entered.

Surely that means almost every company in the world breaks the law? Why not just get a Facebook page exclusively for comps and nothing else? Ive got one just for that purpose Smile

Disgusting tactic by what hifi

Loyal to you for the past twenty years.

I do not have any intention of joining facebook or Twitter for that matter.  I would like to retain my dignity thank you.

Any more of these shenanigans will test my loyalty to breaking point.

Les

The Competitions Commissioner has previously ruled that competitions run on Facebook should also have some other non-FB methods(Drunk of entry. This competition is being run in contrvention of those guidelines.

You should be allowing entry via email and post for non_facebook users.

Facebook only :EDITED:

How disappointing that this is to be on FB only. What as shame that this discrimiates against those who have chosen to retain some sense of anonymity (something one would have thought you supported when you ask users to supply a nickname that is not their, er, name). I wonder if FB has a user age profile to suggest that this competition is being targeted to a specific group. Nah. Can't be. Next you'll refrain from sending out to loyal, repeat subscribers the freebies you offer to new subsribers. Oh, hang on . . . .

I, too, have nothing to do with Facebook. I  am annoyed that I cannot enter the competiion.

I'm not on Twit-Face either. Why can't we have a competition for subscribers rather than those who have been directed from money saving websites. Just like the best offers are ''for new customers only''. we have comps for ''new visiters only''. Loyalty is a one way street these days.

Wish I could enter this - will never have a facebook account -> closed garden!

Sorted now, please ignore below message - think its sensitive to the way you input the date plus the fact I had to tick the secure content message thing.

Fill out all the details - ticked the box - hit submit - then nothing ???

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong please ?
