Sci-fi and fantasy buffs are in for a treat this month with new and classic sci-fi shows appearing on Virgin TV's video-on-demand service

A new sci-fi and fantasy channel launches today on Virgin TV's on-demand cable service, with up to 150 hours of programming from Warner TV, FX UK and Virgin Media Television.

Virgin Media customers on the XL package, or those subscribing to TV Choice, will have unlimited access to classic shows such as Babylon 5 and Star Trek, as well as contemporary science fiction series such as Terminator: The Sarah Connnor Chronicles.

New shows will be added to the on-demand service every month. In addition, throughout February, all Virgin Media TV customers will be able to enjoy a selection of sci-fi shows, including V, Supernatural and Moonlight, for free through Virgin Central (channel 118).

Season one of Vampire crime series Blood Ties and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda will  also be available on Virgin Central.
