USA: McIntosh takes centre speaker design to XCS

They take their 'home theatre' very seriously in the States, and celebrated high-end brand McIntosh has just launched a heavyweight centre speaker designed to match its existing XR200 stereo model.
The XCS200, which has just hit US shops at $6000, can actually be used as a left, right or centre speaker, or even on the surround channels. It handles 600W of power and, the company says, 'delivers extraordinary sound, with an enormous acoustic output.'
That's not hard to believe, given that it uses two 20cm bass units, eight 5cm titanium inverted-dome midrange drivers and five 19mm titanium dome tweeters, arranged in what the people in Binghamton, NY, call 'a quasi-point source array'.
The speaker can be biwired or triwired, has concave cabinet sides to break up standing waves, and comes complete with a stand. Oh, and a wall-mounting kit, if you think your house is up to the task.
McIntosh is distributed in the UK by Market Leaders UK.
