US NEWS: Sherwood joins the Blu-ray party at CEDIA Expo
We keep hearing whispers that Sherwood is set to make a full-scale return to the UK market – the products are sold in other parts of Europe, and they've been here before, under the wing of the then Denon distributor.
And the new products just launched at the 2008 CEDIA Expo might give us some idea what to expect: the company has a new Profile 2.0-compliant Blu-ray player (illustrated) and a novel 2.1-channel 'Surround Sound Stereo' receiver.
The BDP-6003 Blu-ray Disc player has full decoding for all HD audio formats, supports 1080p video at both 60Hz and 24fps, handles lossless audio from Dolby and DTS, and also has 5.1-channel analogue output.
That makes it the perfect match for the RX-4503 receiver, which has 5.1-channel analogue inputs despite only being a stereo receiver. The secret is in the use of Dolby Virtual Speaker and Dolby Headphone processing, enabling it to deliver surround sound from just two speakers, with the option of a subwoofer.
The receiver has a front-panel input for a portable music device, and can also be used with an optional Bluetooth adapter, enabling it to play music from suitable mobile phones.
