Toshiba puts content in the palm of your hand with compact 500GB drive

It uses a 2.5in drive to keep things compact – the casework is just 16.5mm thick, a little over 8cm wide and less than 13cm deep – weighs just 155g, and works with Windows 2000, XP and Vista, as well as Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
The USB 2.0 drive is also designed to be ultra quiet and energy efficient, and is designed, the company says, to answer static as well as mobile needs: "With games consoles increasingly used in living rooms as media centres in their own right, the Toshiba 500GB external hard drive offers a convenient and stylish way to store gigabytes of music, films and photos for playback via a number of leading gaming platforms."
The 500GB version, which is available now for £120, comes in black with 'Frost White' detailing. It sits at the top of a four strong range, with capacities denoted by the colour of the detailing: there's a 160GB version in 'Gecko Green', a 250GB in 'Hot Rod Red' and a 320GB in 'Carbon Grey'.
