Spotify plans a 'new direction' – all to be revealed next week

21 Nov 2011

Daniel Ek, SpotifyNow here's a bit of intrigue: Spotify has called a global press conference in New York next week, on November 30th, at which it will announce "a new direction for the company".

Details remain scarce, but the invite apparently says that Spotify CEO Daniel Ek (right) will be on hand "to share some exciting news", accompanied by "a special guest or two".

So what could it be? An iPad app? A new interface? Spotify for movies? Further integration with Facebook?

All that Spotify will say for now is that "we are holding our first press conference in New York on November 30th to unveil the latest major development from Spotify – and a new direction for the company".

Looks like we'll have to wait until next week to find out more.

Spotify should be charged.

I see no reason why cheap little people should get something for nothing.

If the product is good then paying for it should follow.

Spotify also really need to sort out the bit rate claims for its £9.99 service.

At the moment they are not giving us the clear and honest truth.

Don't charge for something you are not supplying, Spotify.

If it messes with the music, which is the only reason I would ever subscribe, and I do, then it risks upsetting genuine music fans.

Yes, I am with you my friend.Smile At the moment Spotify stream for subscribers (Which I am) at Ogg Vorbis 320 they say........ (Actually my measurement is 192).

I have a very expensive Hi Fi including KEF One-2 Speakers and Arcam  Amp set up using my Arcam R DAC to send the quality.

Spotifi does actually sound quite good on most music.....BUT......Flac would make a big difference I think.Smile

All my CDs are now stored in FLAC which is virtually lossless and lovely.Cool

Could be different levels of subs for different qualities?

Althoug iPad app would be nice.

Lets hope its an ipad app

I hope it's the introduction of higher quality music, flac file's would be fantastic.

Methinks it's the end of Spotify for free.  Subscription only from now on Money mouth.
