Sony 3D TV
Japanese consumer electronics giant pins its hopes on 3D TV and games technology

Sony has reported a loss of 40.8bn yen (£294m) for the year to end of March 2010, less than half the loss it made the previous year (98.9bn). Revenue fell by almost 7 per cent to 7.21 trillion yen.

The improvement was largely due to heavy cost cutting, the company says.

Sony expects sales of 3D televisions and games to help it make a profit of 50bn yen in the year to end-March 2011.

Consumer product sales fell by 20 per cent, partly because a strong yen made Sony's products more expensive overseas.
