Sony adds Netflix to its 2012 Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players
Netflix will be added to the Sony Entertainment Network on April 24th, bringing the streaming movie service to Sony Bravia TVs, Blu-ray players and network media players.
But Sony has also confirmed to us that the update will only apply to 2012 models – Netflix won't appear on older Sony devices.
Netflix costs £5.99 a month for a selection of SD and HD films, which you can watch on a range of devices including your PC or laptop.
The service is already available on LG, Panasonic and Samsung TVs, plus Apple iOS devices, the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Sony already offers its Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services, which allow users to buy or rent films on a pay-as-you-go rather than subscription basis across a range of devices, including the Sony Tablet S.
The Netflix app will be available on all 2012 Bravia TV, Blu-ray and home-cinema-in-a-box products.
Greg Peters, vice president of product development at Netflix, said: “Adding Netflix to the Sony Entertainment Network, gives consumers an even broader choice of devices to instantly watch unlimited TV programmes and films streamed over the Internet. We’re always looking to provide people with new ways to enjoy Netflix.”
“We’re very excited about the addition of Netflix to our SEN portfolio” said Edd Uzzell, Sony category development manager. “All of our consumer products – whether that is a BRAVIA, VAIO, Tablet or Xperia – are designed to provide the best quality content possible, and having great content providers offers consumers greater choice for their home cinema experience.”

Disgusting support from Sony. Technical issues are an excuse.
Sugegest a watchdog group complaint.
Even the higher range higher spec 2011 models get a No.
Is an excuse to make people buy again I think. Have seen netflix on some older low end LG's I think yet Sony high end models can't come off it.
And this is just another rason why Sony is losing market share.
Sony, you need to support older models for at least, IMHO, two years after production ceases.
I have a newish Bravia TV, Blu-ray, DSLRs, MD recorders, and semi-pro video camera, but once these items cease to function, or are upgraded, it's goodbye Sony. Your support for customers is very poor, your firmware updates are non-existent for DSLRs - your attempt to push users to SLT models (which will fail), you seriously messed up with MD/Net MD/HD-MD, and now, with falling sales, you decided only 2012 models of television will be updated with Netflix...
Those Samsung TVs and Blu-Ray player are looking more attractive every day. As are the Canon and Nikon DSLRs.
@rhythmwizi have it on a 5yr old ps3 but cant get it on a month old bdp s480 bd player or 2012 made tv??petty...
thats just ridiculous.it states in black & white my tv is manufactured in february 2012,but i cant have a lousy netflix app. way to go SONY you are so loyal to your customers...im so grateful...
So the BDP-S480 I only bought a couple of months ago won't get Netflix? The US model of the same player has it, and I believe always has - this seems more than a little unfair. Is this Sony's CEO's new business plan, to go out of their way to p*** off customers?
Disgraceful. So TVs and BD players are now 1 year devices are they?
It's no wonder Sony are struggling. Who would buy Sony now when they stop supporting your devices so quickly?
2012 Panasonic TVs and Blu-ray players come with Netflix as standard. There's even a dedicated button on the remote control -
Att least this is a step in the right direction, Panasonic probably arent' going to bother with Netflix, I'm not even sure they do Lovefilm..
I tested the Sony BDP- S390 last week and there was no Netflix at that point (unsurprising as the official launch was yesterday). I've still got the player around; if I get a chance I'll plug it in and do the software update.
Bit annoying they can't do an update for older machines! I've only had my BDP-S185 for six months.
and mine
Netflix has been on the ps3 for a few months now and im using the old 60gig(now upgraded to 500 gig) ps3.
Well the BDP-S390 is certainly 'new' according to the Sony UK website, chebby. The PS3 already has Netflix.
Will all PS3 models get it?
Is the BDP-S390 a 2012 model?
Looks like just 2012 models. I have asked Sony.
will it be available on 2011 models?
