Sky releases smaller HD box for multiroom customers

Sky has released a new, smaller, high-gloss HD box for multiroom customers who want something more compact for a second room.
The box will be free for new multiroom customers, though the standard set-up costs and additional subscription costs will still apply.
Previously, customers would have to pay for an additional box – at £199 – if they wanted to sign-up for Sky multiroom.
The new box includes the Sky HD EPG but doesn't have a hard disk drive so doesn't offer any of the PVR functionality of Sky+.
Interestingly, this Sky box does output Dolby Digital 5.1 over HDMI, unlike the other Sky boxes, which will only output DD 5.1 via the optical output.
To get Sky HD in a second room you will need to pay £10.25 a month for multiroom and £10.25 for an additional HD subscription, plus set-up costs: £30 for new customers, £60 for existing customers.

As everyone says, another Sky rip off for existing customers. Been with them for 20 years & get nothing for loyalty. if only customer loyalty was given same effort as grabbing new customers. Never happened, never will.
How about offering yearly incentives to loyal customers?
One month free or lower subs or maybe free upgrades to existing packages?
Ah! But then I woke up!!
Go to Currys or Comet & buy a good quality sender system. Works brilliantly & will set you back £30.
These new 'multi-room boxes' will allegedly be able to stream recorded content from Sky+HD boxes over LAN with future f/w updates...Though no date has been confirmed for the updates AFAIAA.
EDIT - almost forgot, they can output DD5.1 via HDMI
, unlike it's sibling (Sky+HD box)
better off getting a HD capable video sender and keeping one box/one subscription. Though obviously can only watch what the one box is tuned to, but £20/m cheaper... or get a freesat HD box instead!
wow just what I need another pointless offer from Sky!
"To get Sky HD in a second room you will need to pay £10.25 a month for multiroom and £10.25 for an additional HD subscription" - even if you already have HD on your main subscription its another 10.25 for HD in the second room??? i know thats what it says, but i dont want to believe it.
Co
Couldn't agree more!!
Totally pointless at £20.50 per month WITHOUT recording faciliites?
Surely buying a second hand box and simply getting multiroom at £10.25 with recording facilities is a better option?
What a waste of sky tv research and development budget, which would have been much better spent on sorting the Dolby Digital over HDMi issue out! That wouldn't make any money, but neither will this!
Sky still ripping off existing customers i see, When Murdoch gets contol it will probably be pay-per-minute for every channel.
MP's, Banks, Utilitys, Oil companys, Sky etc etc - funding their lavish lifestyle's by robbing you and laughing all the way to their offshore bank accounts. - IT'S A FREE COUNTRY..... WELL IT IS FOR THEM.
